You don't want to run it too slow, the oil pressure will drop dangerously low. That is one of the smoothest running V-12 engines I have ever encountered too. I'm curious why it was discontinued.
Oh boy! Not me ducking my head to the right when the camera gets close to that fan, as though the stupid thing could actually get me lol Listening to ALL of these beauties purr is music to my ears, but I must say even as an avid Ford lover, that GMC is hypnotic!
tesla turbine done right by the looks of it - you don’t need me to tell you well done 👍 Now, for the next trick: integrate ‘them’ into a useable system 👍👍👍
its a Guiberson T1020 aircooled 9 cylinder diesel radial engine the A1020 Guiberson diesel radial was the aircraft version used in the Stinson Reliant. some of these Guiberson T1020 engines are new old stock decomissioned engines some still for sale the starters used on the Guibersons originally use a Coffman type starter that uses a shotgun shell which the starters are manufactured by Breeze. as some put on inertia starters which work more better either electrically wound or by a external crank.
Boa, you still here? I need some assistance with my TD3. For some reason my burner wont light up. I only get a blue flame flash and that's it.. what am I doing wrong?
Now, The spectrum of my knowledge of armored vehicles is admittedly quite limited, but, I recall the Sherman tanks were radial engine. But it seemed that they were gasoline powered and that caused a lot of problems. Is a diesel radial an adaptation made FOR Shermans during the war? Or; Was there a radial powered successor to the Sherman that this specimen arises from?
Don't know if its accurate but the Wikipedia article for the Stuart light tanks state that some were fitted with Guiberson A-1020 engines like this one for British use, look under the section for US variants.
Wayne makes very nice models. Congrats on your purchase. The Otto Langen works a bit different than our current modern engine. The "power stroke" is actually after it fires and the piston and rack is on it's way down. As it fires and the rack piston go up, the clutch freewheels and as it comes back down, that is where the power is transferred to the flywheel. As a volunteer at Rough and Tumble in Kinzers PA , I've had plenty of time to watch their original Otto Langen in action. Here's a video of Wayne Grennings full size Otto Langen replica next to an original at Rough and Tumble ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2RSNON0HyVU.html
I had a GMC 478M v6 in my boom truck excellent motor. GM tried to make them toroflow diesel but they were not so good . In high school I had a 1/2 ton shortened 1965 GMC with a 305v6 worn out but ran . Detroit also married 871 and 671 into 16v71 etc . Worked on generator sets with them .
So, is that a Guiberson cartridge start radial diesel out of an M3 Stuart tank? The engine mounting frame sure looks just like the frame used with the more commonly fitted 7-cylinder Continental radial petrol engine used in Stuarts.
We had a Murphy 852CT power house on an 855 Cedar Rapids Commander rock crusher. That engine sounded like a locomotive when it started. It would start at -20F without external heat by holding that governor till the oil pressure caught up to it. Just an amazing engine.
I took photos of a Fully Restored Cab over Single Axle GMC truck in the Toll Road in IN or OH last November I-80 at a rest stop with a V-12 in it. My FAther had a 67 Chevy Tandem axle truck with a V-6 401.. It ran very smooth a bit low on power and liked gas very much .. very low compression ration . It would wind up to about 4,000 RPM's if you really wanted to push it .. a 5 speed tans with a 4 speed auxilary .. You could split a lot of gears and do a lot of shifting.
@@boa721 It is fantastic to watch run, they have so much going on with their motion it really keeps your eyes and mind moving. Have you dug into it to straighten out the issues from the previous builder?
@@steam212 no. I ended up selling it.. in transite UPS broke it, filed a claim, they denied it because the insurance co like many don't want to pay out. Upon returning it to me they destroyed it even more, they were then forced to pay for it. I then sold it on ebay and found out 2 weeks ago, it is fixed. I do now have another one, built by a much better machinest.
@@boa721 You've have to love those who don't understand what "fragile" means. Shipping companies have ruined more engines than time and neglect combined. I'm happy to hear that you have another one and that this one lives again. 👍
