Halstead was a Dylan of his times, and like Dylan he has a right to "butcher" his own great songs. However, I like these unplugged versions because it shows the strong songcraft beneath the electronic dazzle of Slowdive, a group often derided at the time by ignorant critics for lacking songwriting skill. After what SBK did to Slowdive in the States, it was great to see Halstead & Rachel return on 4AD as Mojave 3. NH has the same "problem" as Orson Welles: how do you follow CITIZEN KANE?
