It's just my journey as a powered pilot who discovered soaring and towing in gliders after 23 years flying USAF F-16s & F-111s and yrs of flying 727, 737, 757, and 767 Boeing aircraft. Soaring was the most fun I've ever had in an aircraft...really refined my skills and knowledge of flight through experiential learning. I did a lot of soaring on my layovers in Chile, the UK, Calif, and Az. I got my commercial glider add-on in 2013 and my CFI-G in 2014 at Chilhowee Glider port in Etowah, TN w/ Team USA gold medalist, Sarah Arnold. I had aerobatic instruction from Jason Stephens (6 x US Nat'l Champion; Arizona Soaring nr Phoenix) and Garret Willat (US Nat'l Champion x 3; Sky Sailing. Warner Springs, Calif). In 2014, my B-4 glider was grounded for corrosion in the wings. My wings were clipped. In 2024, trying to get back in the air. Hamilton is my middle name. I love soaring with hawks.
@hawkhamilton2089 oo that's unfortunate, I'm gliding on k8 now with k13 check flights every flying day because I don't have my license yet. I also applied for the KLM flight academy for may next year so we'll see how that one goes. Happy landings!
@@znek4288 Your glider training is a good foundation of the fundamentals. Good luck at the flying academy. I currently fly the 757 and 767. And I'm trying to get back to glider flying. My glider club closed 10 years ago and my B4 glider was grounded for corrosion. So, trying to figure out where to fly gliders now.
2014. I was on an airline layover in London and took a train up to Bicester. I had been stationed at RAF Upper Heyford flying F-111s in 1987-1989, and I lived right behind the glider port. The gliders flew overhead my house in the pattern every weekend. But, I was young and not interested, plus I was busy trying to advance my career in the Air Force. So, in 2014, I said, I'm going back to Bicester and fly a glider because that is what I should have done in the 80s. That is too bad that they closed. Glider flying is the best way to teach someone to fly and that airfield was so nice! Thanks for the message.
Very nice Video. I have been soaring for 32 years, the best years of my life. Soaring is still the second best feeling in the World. Had to give up flying due to an illness, but still watching every hawk and sailplane I can detect in the sky. Love to Herr all Songs of Ed Kilbourne and send herewith my greetings to my sailing friends at CGC, the Chicago Glider Club. Keep soaring and everytime good landings Gernot Neubauer ASW 20C, D-GN back in the 80-tys. Old Pilotes don't die, they just fade away!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I know LaGrange has some great memories. Maybe with time your new location will have some great memories of its own. I think it has the potential to be a great location for the club.
Had 5 flight in my Std Cirrus this year season ending but some 4000 ft aerotows perhaps this winter and still to winch launch it but enjoyed your video x
