The Chicago Humanities Festival connects people to the ideas that shape and define us, and promotes the lifelong exploration of what it means to be human. As the Festival approaches its 30th anniversary, we have grown from a one-day celebration of the humanities into a year-round festival of arts and ideas. We present over 130 events annually, in venues across the Chicago area (from Evanston to Englewood, the Loop to the South Shore), including two festivals (Fall Festival, Spring Festival), and partnerships with the region’s most prestigious cultural institutions and universities. Our hope is that audiences leave Festival programs transformed-inspired by a shared experience and with new insights and perspectives.

The work Caitlin has done is so inspiring. I'm currently listening to her book right now and it's wonderful. I feel such anger that she struggles with sexism with all her experience and passion for death positivity. RU-vid is strange how these seeds she planted so long ago continue to grow. So wonderful. 'm 65 and retired. I've had a very difficult life and have never understood people. Teachers in general didn't seem to like me. In second grade this nun used to hit me and gave me straight Fs. I told my mother that I got 100 on all tests. She thought I was not telling the truth and never investigated. There was a meeting at the end of the school year. The mother superior said "well sister , he has flunked all year does he need to be kept back "? No sister he gets 100 on every test. I fail him because he has a bad attitude, I enlisted at 17 and thought I was doing okay. I was a member of a Special Forces A-Team when I was 19. I attended USMA Prep and then got a degree at UMASS after the army. I've had a disappointing life and have never been successful. I'm probably autistic but wonder why I was never told.

Prequel is well-worth reading, the history is vital, and Rachel's prose is delectable. My *only* issue with this talk is that Rachel's message of conciliation on community & personal levels regardless of politics ignores racism (redlining, policing etc)...Though Belew's work does touch on that & she's also well-worth reading.
