Grant, David, Bo, and Smoovies talk about the latest Sonic news and dive deep into the games, comics, movies, lore, and more of everything Sonic the Hedgehog.

39:38 Yep! And back when DC Comics had a marketing budget and advertised stuff on RU-vid, she was the co-host of DC All Access with Jason Inman (also someone worth following, he's done some indie comics and has a great podcast called Geek History Lesson with his wife). I used to watch DC All Access regularly in college so seeing her show up was a blast from the past!
UK Dennis the Menace "lore": Dennis sort of stayed as he is, while Dennis' Dad and Mum had their looks changed to match their then-current cartoon look around the 2010's. As Dennis' Dad looked like an older Dennis now, at some point they shown off pictures of him as a young boy, who just looks like Dennis. So retroactively, his dad was basically the Dennis the Menace of the 80's to the 2010's, and his dad was the Dennis the Menace of the 50's to 70's. Dennis' Mum's sister is the mother of Minnie the Minx, so they're now cousins. Gnasher is probably still the same.
It's amazing how Shadow went from being a (somewhat) failed attempt to create an artificial Sonic, based on the ancient echidna prophecy, so that Gerald could save Maria, to "Evil Sonic"
Sonic Superstars is one of my favourites from last year, so that's what I can say about it. Lots of fun and charm in it. Bosses can be long, but can be quickly beat if you know how. I'd rather know what set of bosses from what Sonic games do people actually like for comparison's, as I know people called them the weakest point in any Sonic video game. (For example, nobody calls Sonic Generations the worst game made because of the Time Eater boss, but they really hate that boss!)
I don't want to understate how difficult a solo comic project is... But Penders has laid out these massive plans for a multi volume epic of multiple graphic novels, and now after *years* of working on it he's delivered one issue worth of new content. "He likes the idea of having a story to tell" is the perfect way to put it.
David's reaponse about the Sonic cycle was very good. Sonic fans need to stop attaching Sonic's game quality to their own ego wnd self-worth. I also think people need to learn that they can just not waste their time and money on a game that looks bad. I didn't buy Rise of Lyric, Forces, Frontiers, Superstars etc. because they all looked bad. Why buy a game you already don't think you'll like? You don't need to blindly love everything with Sonic's face on it. Sonic doesn't have to be a brand you devote your life to. Just enjoy the things you like and avoid the rest. I watched an episode or two of Sonic Prime and stopped, because I didn't like it, so I could spend my time doing things I actually like.
@@telekinesticman I've felt like the boys needed to talk about it eventually. And I didn't expect David and Bo to give such good answers/insight on the fly.
I listen to a lot of comedy podcasts and watch a ton of videos game content and y'all really pull through with content that I want to watch/listen to. Thanks 🥂
You know, even though there are laws, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Ken would succesfully reprint Archie Sonic comics and Sega would do nothing about it. They already don't care about all their previous media except the games so there won't be a court case.
I physically cannot listen to the video for more than a few minutes. You really ought to learn some basic broadcast training stuff to make this tolerable for people outside of your immediate friend group. I curse Cybershell for making me click on this.
Hoo boy. The painful part is I actually DID work in corporate broadcast radio for years as an on-air host! We just goof here a bit more. Thanks for the feedback, callthecops3099.
I’m so happy for the Comics discussion with CyberShell after all these years of no “Fleetway Sonic the Comic retrospective.” I didn’t know Archie’s Eggman was a robot body of Robo-Robotnik for years and years. (I don’t remember the year, but I read from issue 182 to 229ish before getting burnt out.)
cybershell sent his fans to harass me a while ago because I got (rightfully) upset at him spreading (at the time) unsubstantiated rumors that could result in a guy being fired. fuck him.
29:25 look up the song Proto Culture by Del the Funky Homosapien. I mean, the whole song is about video games (and samples a song from Darkstalkers), but it counts.
Thank you so much for the recommendation (even if it wasn’t directed at me). I love Del on the two early Gorillaz tracks, so I’m glad to be introduced to a song from him that’s all about gaming!
The Trunks comparison can be better done with Terminator, as both are about a youth coming from the future to warn of killer robots. Toriyama was more of a live action and movie buff who did not read a lot of comics as he admitted, and he'd certainly reference Terminator. (Much like he referenced Alien for one of Frieza's forms, Goku Black being based on evil copies of Ultraman and Kamen Rider (and named after Kamen Rider Black) or give Master Roshi a disguise named "Jackie Chun".) And I guess Tails is the Bulma to Sonic's Goku? Scientist wise but without the vain personality?
Everyone’s talking about how the wings remind them of Venom from King in Black. Me? I say the wings remind me of Eclipse the Darkling from Archie Sonic. There’s been a much bigger emphasis on space since Frontiers and I’m really curious what we might learn about the Black Arms in this game.
Bo single handedly finishing the code for multiplayer to work IN Burning Rangers is crazy, give this guy an award, and a zillion bucks. Also I love the archie Sonic and Mega Man comics, way past cool!
I'm so glad you guys decided to upload the Sonic Weekly podcast to RU-vid, I feel like I've been missing a SEGA variety podcast my entire life so I'm glad I found this channel last year. It is absolutely fascinating to hear about behind the scenes type stuff like with the whole child QA testing. Also yeah Comix Zone and Vectorman are crazy difficult D:
as someone who ONLY listens to the pod on mute and solely for the gameplay footage, and gameplay alone, i appreciate the gameplay this week being from sonic adventure, the pinnacle of human fiction and creativity. good FRICKIN show this week bois
I have a question for discussion: If we assume for Sonic 3 just takes the broad strokes of Shadow's story and change it up to a way we might expect them to as they did the first two films (I imagine, say, he's instead just from another world who has an ET like story with Maria, that has a bad ending instead, which turns him into John Wick), would that be acceptable or does he still need to be a science experiment on a space station born from the genetics of an alien arms dealer?
This is Jack not the hosts but you bring up an interesting word by mentioning aliens arms dealers. This could give the buyer from the Knuckles show something useful beyond 3 scenes of scenery chewing to do.
