I’d better get a head start on the Boston Pops 1812 Overture because I heard this piece many times before. IT’S GOING TO BE PLAYED AGAIN TONIGHT, I KNOW THAT. Kenneth Huang. 7/04/24.
The only thing wrong with this show was that night was very foggy and you really couldn't see the fireworks because they disappeared in the heavy fog and clouds.
In the U.K. l grew up listening to Uncle Mack on the radio. One of the most often played pieces as the finale to the record show was the last few minutes of this beautiful piece of music. Oh, how it takes me back.😊❤
Ten motłoch nie poszedł tam wysłuchać arcydzieła, którego nie rozumie. Oni poszli tam jak do Disneylendu, zobaczyć fajerwerki i siebie na telebimie. Żałosne.
Went with my parents several times to the 4th Concert in Symphony Hall. They play it before the fourth there several times. Have been at Esplanade in pouring rain too. If crowds bug you go the day before the 4th…3rd of course….they do a dry run practice during day, people just come and lounge by the river. Love our city!
I miss this so much. Back in the 1990's, the A&E Network always televised "Pops Goes the Fourth," featuring the Boston Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Keith Lockhart. The BPO always played the full version of the 1812 Overture, not what I call the Reader's Digest condensed version that is played by the National Symphony Orchestra on the "Capitol Fourth" broadcast on PBS. It is nice to see Maestro Lockhart and the BPO still going strong. Thank you for posting this.
Tchaikovsky is my favorite classical composer and the 1812 Overture is possibly my favorite of his works. Crank up the volume and rattle walls for this great work.
Our Dad was stationed on Governors Island, First Army Headquarters, and on Independence Day, we were entertained with this piece of music along with fireworks and cannon fire. Although it was almost 50 years ago, I have never forgotten the experience!
Having grown up in Boston (and having pumped gas into Arthur Fiedler's VW at the Mobil station in Cleveland Circle) I'll always have a soft spot for the Pops even though I've been away for a long time. Thanks for posting this wonderful performance.
I was a kid living in back bay during the 70's and 80's and went to these performances every year. It was a thrilling time in my life. I'll never forget those them.
it may be a flawless performance musically technically. but to play a piece of music in less than 13 minutes, for which other orchestras need 15 or even better 16 minutes, in order to present the size and scope and dignity, is artistically almost cheeky... 😞
Stanley - Thank you for anchoring your camera on the girls. Caught TSO 12/09/15 in Austin. Chloe won my heart, what a voice. But, look out, Jodi Katz (who reminds me of my young days sweetheart Rita Williams) is on the rise.
Wow that's Chloe? I saw her in Vegas a few years ago and she looked gorgeous. Don't get me wrong she sounds wonderful, but imo she sticks out in this group in an awkward way. Her hair extensions are so obvious when they do the side jerk thing. She looked so much better in Vegas as a brunette.
+bookiecookie444 I totally agree with you and posted that exact same sentiment on another Blonde Chloe song .. she does not look nor act the same.. she actually looks older to me... something has changed with our Chloe, and it is not just her hair. something has been lost. Yes, still amazing voice , and looks like she has been working out (nice arms) but something is just not right with her soul
My wife and I went to this show, and sorry, but they were way better when we saw them back in 2009.This time the vocals were off and sometimes hard to understand what they were saying. The new show was overall o.k.The ending was kickass, only because they played Carol of the bells.......
