This excellent little mixture of literary studies and Moroccan and American and French history ... surely deserves more than one or two views? Love andrea

Incidentally it should be noted that the white house in the United States of America was designed and built by a Irish man named James hoban from co Kilkenny Ireland in 1792

I'm not sure Mother Jones would have approved much of the slave owning Hoban who grew-up and benefitted from being John Cuffe's man, though. Always a lot of messy complexity in history, especially when we get into class and those in service (even as artists and monumental architects) supporting the men of great wealth 😁

I can’t believe you haven’t tagged this video with Deadwood. I’m here for the truth behind the character in the show. This is what I was looking for. It took a while.

She has a museum in Mt olive Illinois. It's attached to the police station. But it's there. She was a lion amongst the rats.

An excellent interview. Kudos to an author who will actually admit that sometimes there are things the sources just do not reveal. Strains of Violence, for context, the vigilance murders cross racial lines. Merica is just a violent place. The Legacy of Conquest.

Umm history is great…umm unfortunately umm it goes umm through umm history professors … This wasn't at the end of the Gilded Age and the context is largely the frontier where there are huge frauds everywhere. See the Indian Ring and the Red Cloud investigation. There's a show idea, do one on OC March and the bone wars and more on Gilded Age frauds. For example, nearly every Indian 'outbreak', real or imagined is foundational on fraud in government contracts. See the 1862 Sioux War, although outside the period this is a great example. This topic is largely glossed over by the dominate culture's historiography. The Lakota leave the agencies in 75-76 not because of the Black Hills, but because they are starving. Next up is Wounded Knee. Same issue, they are starving.

it's surprising how I never learned about Mother Jones until now. so much time have lapsed and yet here we are again, fighting for the fruit of our labor. I hope class consciousness and solidarity spreads.

You should watch a TV show called DEADWOOD, available on HBO. It's not entirely historically accurate but George Hearst is a major character in the show. Anyone who enjoys this would love that show.

Do you feel that W. E. B. Du Bois had an overall positive impact on black civil rights? Considering his support for Woodrow Wilson’s presidency and the terrible things Wilson did, would the movement be better off if he never existed?

I am very thankful for the podcast series and I am listening to it on both RU-vid and Spotify. The information is tremendous, host is awesome, and the fact that there are captions is amazing. I’m taking AP US History in High School as well as AP Lang, and in Lang we’re doing a podcast assignment where we listen to an entire process, do writings, in depth note taking, and a synthesis project and I selected your podcast because of the above reasons. I really appreciate this podcast and think it’s awesome it’s ported in so many places and highly recommend anybody viewing this comment to listen to this entire podcast and soak in all of the newly learned and expanded on information!

It's really well worth visiting the island, shame the fountains aren't always on. Give yourself some time, there's trails and it's a great walk around.

In the midst of DC area NPS sites that are mostly marble statures, marble buildings, historic sites, Arlington cemetery, etc., the TR National Monument is basically a tiny national park--which I think is extremely appropriate.

This is the only documentary of Roosevelt Island I am aware of. The camera work, quality of the interviews (and great interview subjects), and the history are very well done. I hope many people come to enjoy this video and that the NPS promotes it. Roosevelt Island is one of the hidden gems of the DC area.
