I grew up in Tuscaloosa and for a time in the 70's and I think until the early 80's, the Drish Home was used as a church which had a sort of Sunday school/day care located there. I remember going a few times and it ws on the ground floor and they had ropes across the staircase leading up to the 2nd and 3rd floors to keep the kids out (the home was not in great shape then). Of course, this only made us the more curious and one day a friend and I slipped under the ropes and made our way up the stairs to the first landing. It was a brutally hot day and the sun was out bright and beating down. But when we hit that landing, a cloud or something moved over the sun and it got very dim and the temperature dropped probably 20 degrees all of a sudden. Needless to say, we quickly went back down and never ventured up there again. I'm not a believer in ghosts but I've also never forgotten that experience.
My grandmother went to school with Mrs. Windham. When they were in the 4th grade their teacher asked them what they wanted to do when they got out of school. Mrs. Windham said she wanted to write ghost stories.
I saw the book of 13 Alabama ghosts, and I can wait to go the phantom steamboat of the tombigbee! (I maybe going to the location) and it almost 2 months to winter! (I have never been to do paranormal the rest of my life)
Those jerks that built the "new" laid the new bridge foundations right on top of the original hole. Poor Bill finally met his match and couldn't sweep out his hole anymore. Very sad but a great local story from my home!
Every Friday in Huntsville, AL c. 1973, I'd check out from my school library any of the 13 Ghosts books of KTW's. Especially if the weather was gloomy. I've seen the courthouse, and there indeed is a face in that window! Ms. Kathryn's work reminds us of the ghastly side of southern heritage. So might I note moment 4:57 or so. They've got folks sweepin' the street in the background. Kind of creeps me out. Reminds me of "happy" videos of North Korea. I hope we progress down here real soon.
I loved her loving her coming to my school when I was a kid when I was in about the third grade she wouldn't tell stories to children under the third grade because she didn't want to scare them but I missed her always looked forward to her coming she was like a grandma
I love this lady I'm sorry she's gone I used to see her in elementary school when she used to come tell her ghost stories and that was a wonderful time I'm glad they got her on video for the people to enjoy rest in peace Mrs Tucker
Does anyone know when this video was filmed? I know it was uploaded in 2013 but I just saw this grave featured on "Faces of the Forgotten" and the landscape of the cemetery is completely different now.
I was raised here and it's still a local legend. The hole supposedly has been covered with granite stones for water retention after the flood of the early 90s.
When I was in High School at Bradshaw, in Florence ,Alabama K.W.T . came and told in entire school, some of her ghost stories and about Jeffrey. That was between 1974 and 1978. Can't remember exactly what year it was but I absolutely enjoyed hearing her and actually seeing her as well. She's a true Alabama legend may she rest in peace. Thank You for all those stories Kathryn Windom Tucker.
My best friend is Grancer's great-great granddaughter, and she has been invited to tag along with a paranormal investigative group tonight to see if having some "blood kin" there might help with any communication Grancer might make. So, we'll be out there on this full-mooned Halloween night 2020. (I shall be the one out there looking like Don Knotts in "The Ghost & Mr. Chicken.) LOL
i dicoverde hr i discovered her sabout 1982 t was on BETA AAND HER HER NEPHEW WENT TO SCHOOL WITH NEVER GOT TO MEET HER I LISTENED TO EVER STORY EVER BOOK WONDERFUL
I was a little young girl when our school took a field trip to Reform, Alabama n saw the face in court house window. To my knowledge when I graduated in 1960 the face was still there. Now I am glad this story is being told. What is done in the dark will come to light.
She neglected to say, of course, that Henry Wells was a black man. She kinda left that to the imagination to decipher. After all, why would a mob lynch a white person in those days?
As an Alabama resident born in 1959 and raised my entire life in Florence ,Alabama we all knew he was a Black Man. Perhaps in the day and time it should be clarified by those that now tell this horrible true tale.
has anyone tried concrete, just asking....I love her stories and she is an amazing story teller as well. it's a great gift to be able to both write and tell
@TTRay No they didn’t kill him!!! I grew up in Gordo Al. Which is about 15 miles from Carrollton where this courthouse is!! I have heard this story my whole life! I have never heard that they killed him!! He was struck by lightning and he was innocent!!!!
My great grandmother told us that he was hung and that’s the promise he made. He said if they hung him.. that he would hunt that court house. I’m from Carrollton
I’ve always heard he was the struck by lightning ⚡️ thing too and he was innocent he was looking out of the window and they’ve tried replacing thr glass but it keeps appearing
I think I saw him on the side of the road near there! My husband didn't see him, it was dusk out. I saw a man on the side of the road and I said omg you see him? What's he doing? My husband said I don't see anyone... Thanks for making me feel crazy! Then I come across this 8 years later! PS I'm glad they all suffered and died in tragic deaths! You don't just take someone's life!
