Welcome to Cocker Spaniel World. We currently have a website dedicated solely to Cocker Spaniels which can be found at cockerspanielworld.com however this channel is going to cover most if not all dog breeds.
I like cocker spaniels because they play and run around like any sporting dog - but they are easier to take care of. And they don't take as much room as say a golden retriever. Definitely prefer the English Cocker.
PWD's really are the best dogs. My portie is so good with my son who has ADHD & he's a great emotional support animal for myself & my husband. He's a friend & part of the family. ❤ Super smart dogs too. He had 5 Commands down & rang a bell to go outside by 3 months old. Never wanders off because he always wants to be with us, follows me everywhere, etc. Very active and love the water just like our family. They are the best breed. ❤
With a Westie, you'll never go to the bathroom in peace again. But you'll always be entertained. My Zoey (just turned 16) loves kids, loves food, has separation anxiety, forces her love on people (even my grandmother loved her, and Grandma wasn't crazy about dogs) and other animals, gets extremely jealous if our neighbor is paying attention to another dog, and is basically a community celebrity.
My Cocker is the smartest dog I've ever owned. He understands my words and reacts to what I say to him in ways I've never seen another dog I've owned. Very highly intelligent. He's a very amazing animal but at times can be temperamental. He loves it when we give him attention but at times goes to his kennel if we over-do-it.
Cocker Spaniels are high maintenance dogs. They have a lot of health issues. Also, due to inbreading they can be aggressive. I love them, but they are too high maintenance. Also be careful what you feed them. Fed one pork and it killed her.
I'm currently dog sitting a Westie...a 1 yr old puppy. Outside is a challenge. There is an opposum under the deck and this little guy is barking, digging, clawing up the ground to get to it. Highly fixated on it and prey driven. There has been very little training and i am not a dog owner. Sweet fella...but it's a challenge for sure. Not sure what to do!
Don't like the computer voice and your depiction of other dogs that aren't even Scotties, I like Scotties though. You can do better, my Scottie would tell you also.
Dogs aren't wolves and do not have "Alphas" in a pack. It's a modern misconception . Dogs used to be "Man's best friend", which is a more accurate depiction of dogs. They just want to be our friends!
Is it true that westies bark a lot when playing? My friend has one and the westie barks very loud while playing with another dog and she said it is typical behaviour of the breed.
When either of my pups whimper or cry in their sleep I wake up and softly pet them and whisper that it's alright --- Bot of my pups are getting older and I think the comfort of them not being alone helps them, they sleep curled up next to me.
Border Terriers do NOT ' love to bark' generally very quiet ( but they'll sure let you know if an intruder is around). Any other breed is a downgrade if you ask me
When my dog bites her lease, she's giving me a message. I'm not moving fast enough for her or I've talked to someone to long and she's had enough. She wants me to start moving and she's telling me I talk to much. I am, after all, taking her for a walk. I'm not there to stand and talk to people. If we are moving she never bites the leash. My dog is an extremely social dog and very mellow. She doesn't bite the leash when we first start walking or when people pay attention to her.
I'm on my 3rd and 4th Shelties. My girls lived a long time. Our tri-color girl had congenital issues with her back and back legs but she was the best, sweetest little girl and loved running in the back yard. I lost her in 2019 at age 12 to cancer. Our sable girl lived to be 16 and died last year. We got the boys as we lost each girl. Our bi-black boy was born the same day our tri-color died (and I found him by accident). Our bi-blue boy was born the day after we lost our sable and again, I just lucked out in finding him. I still want a girl tri-color to work with to be my service dog. The bi-black was supposed to be, but he's a big daddy's boy so that was hopeless. The bi-blue is a bit stubborn and isn't taking to the service work, he's more interested in hanging out in the yard and bugging his brother. Shelties are the best dogs and I can't even think of life without one. They travel well, we've had them on 2 week driving vacations with no problem. We do have a kennel we've used for 30 years (our big border collie stayed there before we got the first Shelties) and our dogs love the place so we don't worry if we can't take them with us, they'll get lots of love and attention.
