Because the water table is very high in much of Florida. You can't bury power cables in watery ground. The areas where you can do that aren't the areas most vulnerable to hurricanes.
In PR we have no power every other day, the company we have its awful. For a hurricane that major, for example Maria, in 2017, in my home we went for two month without electricity, other people 9 month.
I can't wait until December because my husband and I are going on our very first Royal cruise on the Freedom! It's an 8 day so also the longest cruise we've ever taken AND all port stops we'll be visiting, we've never been to! So a lot of firsts coming up for us! So super excited to experience the promenade set up. We've only cruised Norwegian and their atrium style ships. Not sure we like them because they are sooooo crowded on sea days.
