This channel is currently dedicated to scale model railroading and it's related topics, real life rail fanning, walking tours of cool places, scale model building and what ever else comes up that is related to those topics. Uploads tend to be whatever I am currently interested in and am working on.
The #5's are much better. All of my equipment (including bigger steamers) runs great on them. The diesels run fine on the 12.5" radius turnouts, but the bigger steamers sometimes have trouble. Kind of late to the party, but still figured I would put the information out there.
Hi Nick- great video. I volunteer there so there’s a couple things I wanted to address. 1. That 4005 was the only big boy to be converted to oil during freight service, it’s also the only one to be involved in a major derailment. It also could have potentially been the only big boy to leave the country- there was a place down in Argentina that wanted it back in 1962 and they (justifiably so) couldn’t get the money together for the move. Certainly the most storied big boy. 2. UP never came and looked at 4005. It wasn’t even considered for restoration. I have asked Ed straight up if they took parts off that engine and he said no. However, they might in the future (hint hint, wink wink) 3. Cool story about the 3006- it came from the Burnham shops along with the 1400 caboose that’s outsidez it was deadlined in 1992 for alternator issues and after sitting outside for so long it developed air brake issues. If you look at the pictures on the sign you can see UP switch crews- Ed did come down to help move that engine in there. He also supplied the mars ligjt on the front. According to him that engine was the very first engine he trained on when he hired out on the Grande, which I think is very cool!
I use acrylic paint cut with water and alcohol. I don't know why,.. I just always did. lol. ...but,.. what should I do if I use the Testors.?? What do I thin it with and what is a good mix/Percentage.?
Nice job! I have a question though...you painted the engine bay black, then painted the body with the hood on, and had the windows & wheel wells masked. How did the entire thing end up red? Did you end up having to repaint it?
@@NicksCollectableCreations I was just waiting to see how it turned out painting it with the hood on, then realized it wasn't black anymore lol. I'm always thinking about painting the hood on the body, but then I worry it'll screw something up when I take it off.
At 56:43 - you talk about the Testors turn signal amber - did you just apply that paint over the red plastic light? What about the white backup light portion? Was that part of the kit?
Although I don't do N scale I have built several HO scale Walthers kits, the latest being the Walthers Cornerstone chicken coops and farm buildings. I waited until I finished the assembly before hand painting all of it. That will now change as I found that painting the parts while still attached to the sprues is a whole lot easier especially windows. After much cussing and swearing I finally completed the building of a Tichy Train Group flatcar. I followed the directions to the tee and wish I hadn't. After installing the stirrups in a previous step and while installing the extra added bronze phosphor wire grab irons, I broke every one of the stirrups off. If you ever build this kit install the stirrups as the very LAST step! I did make some stirrups out of staples from a desktop stapler that were the correct size for HO scale. I think I spent as much time chasing small parts across the floor as I did assembling the model, LOL! After completing the build with all the fiddly brake details on the bottom (which no one will ever see) I painted the under frame rail brown with my airbrush. I then painted each board on the deck with a different shade of brown to grey-brown mixing the acrylic paint in small plastic communion cups as I went along. It came out looking very realistic. Cheers from eastern TN
This is definitely one great looking truss bridge for N scale layouts. Kato make a very similar bridge (exact same size), that comes already made. It looks very good too EXCEPT it's only made for their (what I call), toy track system. Pity because this Walthers bridge requires lots of patience & time to put together.
I really want to get into this hobby but have no idea what I need to buy to start like types of paint glue and so on. Also can i ask why you did flat black then paint and primer on top of flat black
Need to send both sides of the hood. So it will fit better. Sand before painting. The front wheels inside too far need to bring the wheels farther out a bit the same with the rear tires. Love the two-tone paint job.
