You are awesome and your collection is awesome. I am a huge fan as well. Wish I can get this old collection someday. I am 35 years old now and a practicing doctor. Please think its silly when I tell them these are my favorite comics. No matter how old you get and how much education you do these are hands down the best comics ever created and you're never too old for them.
Hey man can you do like a complete flip through or let me know where I can find a pdf cbr or anything of this online I can’t this comic anywhere and am dying to know the epilogue
Thank you for posting this video of my uncle Jay Welch! As a child we always listened to Jay's music at Christmas time- and this is what Christmas means to me! I will definitely be enjoying this with my Christmas cheer!

Amazing collection and retrospective! I’m interested to know if you have any of The Complete Carl Barks Library volumes that Fantagraphics has been publishing since 2011? I personally love those volumes and I was interested to know if you personally like Fantagraphics’ releases or these ones that you have in this video more?
I'm Italian and here they have published two volumes of the Complete Carl Barks Library by Fantagraphic's in 2013. Last November, three other volumes have been published, but we Italian readers don't know if they'll go on. I think and I hope that they'll do, I love those volumes too, for an European Barks-lover is simply amazing to read Barks stories without censorship and the original American colors!
Lol! You are still hilarious I see! Awesome job Holland. I will be picking up your book here soon! Congratulations on the publishing! Can’t wait to read it!
Never heard that, but feel free to keep posting on that subject, would love to learn, as far as I know, Zorro is a fictional character who is actually Don Diego Vega. I am working on reshooting and reediting this video to make it better.
Thank you, I am back to a much healthier state, so I will be working more on things, glad to know I have been reaching more viewers even with my hospital sabbatical
Can you show all your Dc Spirit Archives volumes in a video and briefly go through each of them, no one here on youtube has a video of a full Will Eisner Spirit Archives collection. How Come?
I do enjoy the reprints, especially since they try to reproduce it like the original issues with the original colors. Barks had an issue with the size of the original Library and would have preferred this smaller version of his comics. The collection is completely uncensored. The censorship of Barks made me very anti-censorship and very pro-first amendment. I am all about the right to free speech. Seeing the original stories makes a reader and an artist like myself very happy. If there is anything I feel the original collection has over this set is the reproduced Carl Barks Paintings on the inside covers and the wonderful essays. There were informative dissertations about Carl Barks use of archeology by Historians, the style of his art that influenced other Disney artists, Essays on Barks by by people like Will Eisner (not Michael Eisner) and George Lucas fessing Up that He and Spielberg are Carl Barks fans. They were inspired by Uncle Scrooge , Donald Duck and the rest of the Duck comics. They took character archetypes and story elements from Donald and Scrooge and turned them into Indiana Jones. as it is I'm torn. I love the convenience and faithfulness of the new printings but I love the special features of the originals.
@@Monsterofthemyst Thanks! It just seems that it’s getting harder and harder to find any of the older sets for under $500 nowadays, and the color reproduction in the Fantagraphics editions is a huge benefit. As a fan from Europe, I’m happy with the convenience of these new editions. Shipping and importing the CBL volumes would only add to the steep prices, so if Fantagraphics has your approval then I’ll probably just carry on collecting them. Would be nice to have all the extensive essays from the CBL volumes released in a separate collection, but I like how Fantagraphics includes commentaries for almost every story, brief though they might be.
Thank you. I actually got into the comics when I saw the feature film in 2008. At the time I wasn't super familiar with the character, I became much more interested in the comic books after I walked out of the theater, I love The Comic Books now.
I've been collecting these and I only need three more sets: 5, 7 and 10. Are those ones particularly rare? The reason I ask is twofold: First, 7 and 10 don't seem to show up very often (certainly not as often as 1, 3 and 8, which always flood my searches), and I haven't even seen 5 yet. Second, the only times they do pop up, they go for much, much higher prices than any of the other sets cost me, no matter what condition they're in. Is it normal for Sets 7 and 10 to be so expensive? I want to get Set 10 from one of the listings I've found, but I know I'll be kicking myself if I spend that much now only to see another copy show up later for much less. Also, do you have any tips on where to look?
I found certain sets to be rarer than others as well. I look at ebay, Amazon, Booksamillion there must be other sites too. The prices for certain sets are a bit higher than the other sets. My suggestion is to set a reasonable maximum bid price. For me, my maximum spending price per volume wasn't a penny higher than $500.00
Some Volumes are available through Amazon, I obtained most of my collection of Barks through eBay. I refused to spend a penny more than $500 per volume though. The comic stories are black and white images, a few of the comics are in color. in volume 9 is an image with Barks and Spielberg. Spielberg based Indiana Jones off of Uncle Scrooge's comic books alongside Lucas. (you probably know that though.)
The Istari Ive been collecting The Complete Carl Barks Library over the last few years. I have all the issues released so far however i like this old oversized hardcover format that you have.
@@reclusive78 It was released in the 1980s and took me Thirteen years to collect. It is released by Another Rainbow. I really enjoy the essays collected in the ten CBL volumes.
The Istari Yes i'm aware. I was a kid back in the 80's. I had a collection of comics that was a cynosure of other kids. As i got older and busy with college, comics took a backseat and so did my collection until one day i discovered that they were destroyed by termites. I grew nostalgic and started collecting/reading comics again a few years back. I cant believe how expensive comics are today compared to back in the 80's and 90's. I love Carl Barks he's a legend. I grew up reading his duck stories and no other Disney artist/writer can compare to him.
@@reclusive78 Thank you! I received the third volume of Uncle Scrooge. the set had three books contained within it. My mom thought she bought me the entire library with the purchase of the third volume. My birthday present sent me on a decade long journey to obtain the rest of the collection. Mom says if she knew what she was starting she wouldn't have bought the books. The images within are black and white with a couple of color comics being exceptions, I love the picture with Carl and Spielberg together in volume 9. What made you a fan of Carl's?
I have various incarnations of this legend on film as I grew up watching Robin of Sherwood in the 80s so that will always be my definitive Robin Hood but moviewise it would be Errol Flynn in the Adventures of Robin Hood followed by Walt Disney's animated version with good choice of having a fox play Robin Hood. You are right to get kids hooked on what is our mythological hero here in the United Kingdom the animated version is the way to go. Whenever I feel down I watch Robin Hood and it makes me happy.
I grew up with this film too. I think it is underrated and judged far too harshley. The Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn is my second favorite film for a reason.
Yeah, I know. It's not my best. I am trying to come up with a funnier act. I already came up with half an act but ended up throwing it away. I try to do better.
I too have the 10 volume set and it was worth every penny and the 30 years it took to complete it. I even had my house robbed and they stole 2 volumes. I was heart broken but luckily was able to replace them quickly, even though one was the pricey and much rarer Uncle Scrooge volume. Years later, through a weird chain of events I got my original stolen volumes back and there was much rejoicing. Two years ago I got my hands on volume 10 and my set was finally complete with a couple of doubles on top. Haha
It took me half my life to collect the Ten volume set, then it took me ten years to read, Mainly due to school and Moving around a lot. I finally finished it a couple years ago and I was like, Worth it.
He was a heavyweight Boxer nicknamed the Rock. He was Drafted and Leads Easy Company across Vague Hellish battlefields of World War 2. The DC War Comics Were made famous by the Art of Joe Kubert. They are great war comic books. You should also Check out Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat by EC Comics.
If I may add… part of what was special was that, while the action was kick-ass, the humanity was even greater. They never beat you over the head with the message, but the futility, stupidity and tragedy of war was always present. And the enemy - other than the straight-up SS Nazi savage - was portrayed as a guy like us who had a family and didn’t want to be there.
Nice video!! This is such a classic! It’s very dated and the narrative isn’t as strong as I remembered before rewatching, but it has a charm. Bela Legosi’s performance was laughable at times, but iconic nonetheless. It’s crazy to see how much of this movie still inspires reimaginings and adaptations of the character today. Funny and a good time to rewatch. I enjoyed hearing your take on it! I actually just reviewed this, too! Great review!
Thanks for the comment. It was a beautiful shot to get. Sorry for the delay. I have been exercising like crazy. Will try to be better about getting back to people. Peace!
Great jokes...especially "When Politicians Attack." Every time I hear one of the "key phrases" during a debate, I'm going to roll over laughing. Here's hoping Holland Timmins posts more satire!
@James Leclerc Unfortunately the answer is no. I hear great things about it, I have seen some of the footage playing on television, but it has never really held much fascination for me. Perhaps I am mistaken. I recently reviewed Shout! Factory's Abbott and Costello collection if you care to watch. Those two real life characters are hysterical.
@James Leclerc I kind of went through a steelbook collecting phase. after a lot of money I decided it's only worth it if I really want nice packaging for a movie. My favorite Movie is the 1933 King Kong. I have the metal case for that DVD. good luck!
