I don't have one of these, but I usually use silicone spray to lubricate plastic on plastic. It's non-reactive with rubber and plastic. It seems especially perfect for this application because it's extremely hydrophobic and doesn't wash away easily. It's really cheap too.

Regular trumpet mineral oil on plastic? I think you are given the wrong advice.
