that is not the first design the mk 0 is. it has two parts to the base he upper part is painted whit inside with a very thin copper top it is the pre patent version yours looks like a mk 1

@nbilton9723 7 месяцев назад
This video was posted quite a long time ago now. At the time, I did not know about the MK0, nor was there any evidence on the internet of a MK0 existing, such as photos of the MK0 lamp, there is now though. So the MK0 wasn't really known about. So back then, this was known as the first design, which is why this is listed as the first design. This is a MK1, with the two piece base.

No. Christmas lights in the UK are nothing like this now. They are all LED rubbish, mostly unshaded, containing hundreds, or even thousands of lights on a set. These were made back in the 1970s, and the design was changed by the early 1980s, then changed to Snow Lanterns. I have a video of the early 1980s version on RU-vid. Pifco produced few shaded lights, from the early 1990s. Shaded Christmas lights started declining in the 1990s, but there were still some available until about 20 years ago. You wont have seen, or heard of these, as Pifco was a British company. However, in the later years, their lights were manufactured in Hong Kong, for the UK market, which these ones were.

Not much IS known about them, save some names from attached stickers, none of which have turned up any results. We don't even know what their makers called them. One label, from maker S. Vera of Clermont-Ferrand, said the contents were non-toxic. Were they all? I don't know that either. I have seen close to 550 designs so far, including hand-operated models but not duplicates, and only two were marked Yorkshire.

I have both the Astro baby and Telstar models. They state 30W Max bulbs (both small screw in type) which give a nice movement. I tried 40W bulbs as a comparison, they made smaller blobs too and a bit more activity, but I prefered the 30W bulbs. I see the modern lamps specify 35W with the new 2 pronged lamps so I guess that would be something to try next for myself. I have to make sure I purchase bulbs no longer that 700mm otherwise they contact the bottom of the bottles. 30W Oven bulbs under 700mm long are a good replacement option.

I can tell you right now the bulb you’re using isn’t hot enough which is why isn’t flowing. The bottles now have the rim on jeep them secure on new bases but unfortunately not great on the old crestworths….have you still got the original bottle? You could switch the contents if so
@nbilton9723
@nbilton9723 Год назад
Astro lava lamps are designed to operate from a 40w bulb. If the bulb isn't hot enough, then the previous and the bottle from the 1990s, which I've just bought wouldn't work. So I stand by that the new bottles are defective.
@seaandbells
@seaandbells Год назад
@@nbilton9723 is the bottle running on 40watts? I just bought quite a few bottles and admittedly i’ve had to use higher watt bulbs on all of them to get movement however, from my experience they begin to heat up faster overtime but I do agree with you in terms of quality….something not quite right in Mathmos Land
