Quick question for you. If you don't make $30,000, why are they collecting taxes? Would it be prudent to apply for the tax id, submit the id to ETSY so they stop charging the GST, and then not charge of submit any tax on your products because you make < $30,000? Thoughts if this makes sense..
Great video! Can you make one about how to set this up for all of us Canadians? -Create an Etsy shop -Create the POD and link it -Create a listing -Demonstrate the tax and what exactly you do.
Using your calculator I discovered a problem. I use the shipper's standard setting at printfy. SKU 33433371553972927420 Generic brandSamsung Galaxy S24 Plus / Matte Printed in United States by WOYC. I was charged the cost of the item, 15. US and shipping 17.99 US for a total of 32.00 US I checked the customer invoice because this is my first sale. My customer was charged 17.99 Canadian for shipping. Etsy didn't do the currency exchange for shipping. Is that usual?
I got here from your Etsy listing, I had to cut and paste the link. I didn't see a link to your Etsy shop in the description here. You don't mention your shop name either. When I placed my order it said 0 dollars then a price change notification which I confirmed to add it to my cart. I had to do it again after placing the order.
I'm out of Ontario so rules may be alittle different, but i'm tired of working for someone and making them money with my time. I've been tossing the idea of opening up my own business but no idea where to start!! I've tossed the idea around of doing POD on my ebay store. have a few things on there but I don't know if its for me... nor do i really know what i'm doing. I've had a couple other ideas about business ideas but no idea where to start.... Does someone need a business degree or anything to really start and be good at it?
Hi Kathy! Thank you so much for your video! I am doing my taxes late, and was wondering if you combine all your income from multiple websites eg. I have a shopify and etsy site into a total gross income, so not separate but everything is added together??
Good job Kathy! I watch many videos and was an Actor and TV host. (my only tip is slow down, pause, breathe, practise and don't worry about saying everything you think you have to say because your audience is intelligent so will still benefit from less information) This receipt concept is something new to me but I'm in the Greater Vancouver area and unhappily retired. I say that simply because a pension isn't enough now for the incredible cost for essentials and extras, so I am going back to self-employed work. I am used to always getting receipts for Income Tax and simply for personal interest like, how much operating my car costs me. So, I have a lot of receipts that I will try to make money from. Thank-you for doing this and I will subscribe.
Hey Kathy thank you for covering the lack of information for Etsy sellers in Canada. I am in BC too and I am not sure what is the Corporation Registration Fee. I have registered my business in BC but I have not paid that much. Would you mind clarifying? I want to make sure I am not missing anything, thanks!
I incorporated last year so I had to registered federally and then again provincially. A walk though of the business registration and GST registration process is on my list of videos to make so make sure you’re subscribed!
If you are fulfilling with Merchize, you will get various high-quality mockup options for each product. They put a lot of work into creating marketable mockups
Another way you can do this with the hair is just copy and paste another copy of the mockup on top of the one with the hair. Then hit erase background - then erase everything but the hair you want to keep in. So now the hair will go in front of the design. It saves you from having to download and upload your original mock and it's just a little faster.
When it comes to gst/ hst, I do not get it! First I need to do my gvt report every month and I sell on other platforms as well, so I need to add my sales and taxes from Etsy to these other platforms income.
If I exceed the 30k threshrol and register for a GST number as legally required, do I have to input that Tax ID number into Etsy? I can't find an answer on Google as to if its required to add one to Etsy
When i upload all my orders from the sheet etsy gives me, I get a different number in the GST/HST report tab than when i seperate the canada only sales from the spreadsheet etsy gives me enter them into spreadsheet. It's also a bit confusing how in the GST/HST report tab it says "Tax Etsy Remits" when i thought the point of this sheet is that im supposed to track and remit.
It's possible that when you paste all your sales from etsy's sheet you have more than 50,000 sales and so some data isn't being calculated. Best practise would be to filter the etsy spreadsheet to only paste in Canadian orders. Also Etsy remits SOME taxes but NOT ALL tax. They DO NOT remit GST/HST but they DO they collect and remit PST/ RST
gosh, someone please help. I hit 30k in sales back in November, since then I've done a additional 93k. I use a print on demand service so ALOT goes into production. I had no clue once you hit 30k in sales you have to register yourself as a business and charge people tax. I never did that. I don't have a GST number and I don't charge people GST. So, now I'm very scared and confused if i owe the CRA 12% of my sales from the point i hit 30k, or if etsy has just been handling that and charging people the whole time and I'm ok. I haven't submitted a GST number to Etsy as i said i dont have one, so the whole time they should have been charging tax for me, right? Also, most of the sales i make are in the US if that matters. To anyone who reads this, thank you, and please help me if you can. I would really appreciate it.
Good thing you sell on Etsy cause they’ve totally taken care of it for you since you didn’t put a GST number but technically yes, you’re supposed to register. I know it happens fast with print on demand even if you don’t take home that amount that’s still great your designs are selling!
Hello! I have been paying GST for about 12 years on sales for my online store. I have provided my GST number to Etsy when they started collecting taxes on our behalf. I can see on Etsy how much has been collected, but I do not know where to find that amount on my CRA statements? I cannot see any amounts that Etsy has paid on my behalf on my CRA paperwork. Can you steer me in the right direction?
Hey! Unfortunately there is no way to see this on the CRA or really anywhere actually. It’s a bizarre situation where I’m submitting nil remittances for PST in BC because Etsy collects and remits it. In talking with my provinces tax office they said this is correct, I should report zero tax collected on my Etsy sales because they collected it for me.
@@fitkittytries So Etsy is taking money for taxes from us, submitting it to CRA, but CRA isn't showing us that the money has been received? We sometimes get a refund for the taxes paid, so why doesn't it show on our statement somewhere? Somehow this doesn't make sense. This isn't how accounting works usually. We can see on paper money coming in and we should also see it on the other side money going out.
@@fitkittytries and also, should it not go as a credit towards the money owing for GST/HST owing since the total I should pay includes sales taxes and I have already paid those taxes. Yet it doesn't show anywhere. I don't understand how this is right?
Hello! for the "tax Etsy remits" for that $43.88 that Etsy remits to the authorities (CRA correct?) do we report that $43.88 in our taxes where it asks for us to enter the GST and do we have to pay that again or did Etsy cover that for us when remitting it to the CRA? Hope I wasn't confusing :)
Hey! So the amount that Etsy remits (in my example) includes taxes remitted to other governments like US states. But you don’t report any tax that Etsy has collected and remitted for you! If you have your GST number on your Etsy account they will not collect GST in Canada (only PST). So for example, I’m registered for PST in BC but most months I submit a nil remittance because Etsy did that for me
I got a GST number last year but forgot to put it on my Etsy account. So Etsy collected gst from Canadian buyers last year. How do I verify the GST was collected to CRA or should I just pay the gst myself to CRA?
Uh oh, that’s a super tricky one! I’d call them and explain your situation. It’s likely you won’t have to pay but you’ll need to find out how to report your revenue as being exempt or zero rated. They may even have some special thing you fill out if your taxes were collected and remitted by a third party?
Hey! Thanks for this info. Just looking to clarify something and had a question. I’m Canadian and new to Etsy…I only want sell in the US. How does that work?
@@stephanieseymour8671 this is a good idea. i'm tempted to do only sell in the states also so I don't have to worry about all this paperwork for doing business in Canada.
They apparently submit the remitted taxes on your behalf but i have no proof they pt anything into revenue Canada... i am late submitting taxes because of them, they can't even tell me where thatnmoney is now. Im under $30 000. It feels like they are a scam to me... seems like they keep the tax
Thanks for posting this. I really appreciate it. Question for you... can you opt to not get a GST # and let Etsy continue to collect & remit on your behalf?
Thanks Kathy, I am hopeless at all this tax info. I am wondering if it isn't just easier to only sell to the US market? My items are printed in the US and the shipping is so much quicker than it is to Canada. Thanks for your input I can't wait to view more of your channel
It might be! You can remove Canadian shipping rates in your Etsy shipping settings if you only want to sell to US customers. Personally I was surprised how many Canadian sales I had last year. I have yet to figure out my year end tax requirements on my US sales but that’s what I’ll be up to this week haha
Thank you SO MUCH! I have wasted so much time trying to figure this out. BTW, you do a great job in that you get right to the point, I'm busy and really appreciate your approach. I just subscribed to your channel and will be back.
Hi again quick question I’m using the pin generator but all of my pins are going to saved instead of created. How do I move them to created? Thank you 😊
They should show up in both places, saved to a board and also under created. As long as when you click on the pin you see your name/profile beside it - you've done it right and added your pinterest account to your pingenerator account! Happy pinning!
I would begin with a couple niches and create boards for those, then see which boards and pins are getting pinned or clicked on and focus on growing those boards/doing more of that type of product
