I'm shocked that I've only ever heard of 2 games you mentioned! I've been obsessed with gaming my entire life, board gaming too, although that only turned into an obsession about 4 years ago (unrelated to global events). Since then I've watched almost every video by Shut up & Sit down and Actualol and lots of others, and tried out loads of games on BGA, consistently playing about 30 games in turn based mode. And I haven't heard of most of what you were talking about... It's like I've travelled to another universe! Subscribed, to further my board game horizon :)
I just moved to another country from the USA. It was difficult to weed out my collection, because I couldn’t afford to ship them all. So my main decision was to bring the games I could not replace. Next bring the games that I cherish the most, especially the games my wife and I like playing together. Lastly, it was easy to pack some of the smaller games. A couple games, I decided to get rid of the box….hated doing that, but it allowed me to bring more.
So yeah, thank you for this! I commented on your "After 30 scenarios of Frosthaven" video telling about my kids and i playing JOTL and hoping to get FH instead of GH 2.0 next... well, since that comment (2 weeks ago??) we've decided to wait on GH 2.0 first instead. Rage Badger and others who have reviewed the classes helped make the decision for me but this video puts the decision over the top! Thanks so much! I cannot wait till March or whenever!
Rolling a dice to determine your bonus? In a Eurogame in this day and age? That’s very disappointing to me. Honestly I just can get past that mechanic. Kills the game for me sadly.
Great point about some themes being overly represented to the point you get really sick of them. Root for sure opened a can of cute anthropomorphic animals lol
This video was so great, thank you! We have played JOTL as a family for the last year. Me and our 3 kids - 2 girls, one almost 15 now and one 13, and our son, 9). We have LOVED JOTL so much and have had weeks where we've played 20 hours of it. haha. No joke! Anyway, following the suggestion of Celophair games themselves we are not going to wait on GH 2.0 but are instead going to move on to Frosthaven (probably in December honestly because we have more JOTL the finish up.) But, I've been binging everything I can on FH and the starting classes - I skipped your spoiler bit... sadly... I wanted to keep watching. Right now, even before we have the game, our oldest daughter is thinking of playing Blink Blade. She played Hatchet in JOTL. Our 2nd daughter is thinking of playing Banner Spear. She played Voidwarden in JOTL. Our son wants Drifter, or Geminate. haha I'm advising him to take Drifter because he hates being damaged or having a "plan" ruined for any reason and so I'm sure Geminate would frustrate him. He played Red Guard in JOTL. I played Demolitionist in JOTL and am thinking of either Deathwalker or Boneshaper for FH. MAYBE, MAAYYYYBEEEE Geminate. I think I could play that one. I really like the dark mechanic of Deathwalker. But I'm still deciding and will, honestly, probably let the kids tell me which to do. haha Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to make this! It was absolutely wonderful! ❤

Thanks for your detailed thoughts. I really appreciate that you're able to articulate your opinions clearly without over reliance on editing a bunch of takes into a single sentence with jump cuts -- it's a nice change of pace from what a lot of videos are these days!
forgotten waters is one my favorite games of all time; we didnt dive into freelancers yet (its on the shelf of shame) so id really like this next installment but wed only need it in the far far future. does anyone know if this game will go to retail as well?
@@crits2524 sounds great and i have no doubts; will it hit retail too though is the question (especially for those of us suffering from high shipping costs and/or VAT)
@@denisloebner4882 it will… not sure what date. Kickstarters are a pain for delivery etc. but the bundle offer is pretty good if you have a few friends interested in a few titles.
Always happy to see another video of yours! As someone who only recently dove into Forgotten Waters for the first time (and loved it!), I appreciate your perspective on what makes these three games unique. I love that the designers continue to iterate on the formula, as well. I’d really be excited to see them go back to their horror roots (either in a game set in the Dead of Winter world, or otherwise) and experience what their writers could dream up now that we’ve seen pirates, fantasy, and (soon) space. Maybe the next one!
Forgotten Waters still has my favourite flavour text on a card ever: "ugly but functional - just like you." Have a chuckle every time I think about it.
Yes I did actually! They have you control 2 side characters who are really easy to manage (you always use your deck for skills but you can give them their own items and all as well). I'd say playing the story is very doable as a solo endeavor but it is a lot of upkeep yourself at first. Once you get rolling, it's alright but it's a big sprawl of things for one person to manage. The organization they provide is definitely essential.
Im sorry if this hurts in any way. I hope it doesn't. You are just a freaking superstar in all the ways possible (and Blood on the Clock in particular).
Thank you for such a detailed, in-depth explanation about what we will do in the game, what the experience is like, and how it generally lays (and how it feels to play). Because of the campaign narrative nature of the game, so far many videos have been avoiding specifics and just describing the theme and setting and components. Thank you for discussing the mechanisms and round structure in detail in addition to the high level game concepts
still wish shed play a game on this channel one day especialy anything that involves social deduction as she so good at them. Its like watch a master do their craft.
Appreciate this! Play throughs can be awesome but are a massive endeavor technically. Additionally, and selfishly, I am protective if my gaming with my friends and family. But madly appreciate the compliment
Thank you for this video. I think it could be great if you added more cuts to the board when explaining the rules, so you do those actions while you explain them. It could be way more understandable in my opinion. Nice game discovery nonetheless.
I just moved from Oregon to Maine (just a quick 3,200 miles), and although I did keep most of my collection, it definitely helped me realize I was ready to part with some games for various reasons. Some I just flat out finally acknowledged I was never going to play. Some no longer "sparked joy." I definitely couldn't have whittled them down to 15 - that's impressive!
13:45 If this is a feature you're excited to bring us why it it literally impossible to see all the character sheets that will be in the game? Any other company would have shown these off by now.
