The holy scriptures plainly says, those that are sinners will die, not tormented forever. It also says that the dead are conscious of nothing.

Whether or not those words are to be attributed to Jesus is debatable. Some believe that particular part is commentary from the author. Concurrently, some versions of the Bible have those words in red letter or quotations. Others do not.

Thats not quite true. Its not about choosing to live separately from God. A person can be saved by simple faith that Jesus is the only one who grants eternal life. Ephesians 1:13 KJV says that we are sealed after we have believed one time!
