From what I know about high fantasy it's not about the stakes so much as the setting/magic. While high fantasy is usually high stakes it doesn't have to be. That being said I ended up DNFing the sample I had downloaded. I found it a bit too low stakes for me.
There's both discussions on whether high fantasy is just when it takes place in an alternate world that's fully fleshed out with races and, you know, all of that, while low fantasy takes place in the real world, but there's also discussions on how big the conflicts/stakes in the book have to be for it to be high fantasy. Some say big conflicts/high stakes are a must, some say they're not factors - I'd personally say a cozy fantasy doesn't feel like a high fantasy to me 😂
Your reaction to the "enamel pin" mirrored my own, I too went "Wait, didn't we just get this?". 😂 I was so confused but then so happy it turned out to be a magnet! I prefer magnets over pins. This was a very good box, I liked everything, book is beautiful as well! 🥰 My favorite items are the mug and book organizer. ❤️

I strongly disliked iron flame in comparison to fourth wing :( there were some strong world building moments but I felt like a lot of the book was bogged down by the conflict of the main couple. i’m so curious to hear your thoughts when you get there! hofas seems to be polarizing for a lot of people, but I enjoyed it for the most part! I don’t think it’s the strongest in the series but it had some great moments (ruhn & lidia being the main event for me hehe)
I have been meaning to read both I Kissed Shara Wheeler and Belladonna, because they both sound really good. Like you, I have set a goal to continue/finish series and such. I even made a list (as best I could from my shotty memory, lol) and realise there is quite a lot.
I'm a looking forward to so many of these: Muse of Nightmares, Divine Rivals, Red Rising, A Curse for True Love, The Crimson Moth, My Roommate is a Vampire, What the River Knows and Empire of the Damned. Loved Empire of the Vampire and Once Upon a Broken Heart, so looking forward to the sequels. Strange the Dreamer wasn't too bad, so I look forward to completing the duology (I really need to get on that). Both The Crimson Moth and What the River Knows sound quite interesting, so looking forward to those at some point (hopefully this year). My Roommate is Vampire is a bit different to what I normally read, but I am trying to diversify from this year onwards, so hopefully it'll be a good one.
I was like where was the supposed Realm of the Elderlings item in the May box ?! Anyway, I was hoping for a better item than a magnet (wrongly labelled) for this fandom. Maybe you have heard about The Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb ? That's what The Realm of the Elderlings is. This is my first illumicrate book for 2024, I skiped all the others. No enjoying their pick much this year but I was so happy with this replacement !

I’m currently reading a queen, this fierce and deadly book 4 of the kingdom of lies series by Stacia Stark. I really like this series and I happen to stumble upon it by accident I didn’t have any prior knowledge about it, and I think it’s excellent
I started reading the first one and basically didn't stop reading until the book was over, it definitely has something extra when compared to a lot of Romantasy found on KU - also really like it!!
I gave Strange and Muse both 4 stars, but I think I liked Muse a bit more. From what I remember some people didn't like Foxglove as much because they didn't feel there was enough of something, but I thought it was a good amount. plus, I enjoyed the characters and there's one line that lives rent free in my mind and I'm very much looking forward to Wisteria.
@@ImRosaYT hahahaha. it's kind of near the end, I believe. and tbh, it's not that great a line and while I read the book it's mostly the way I imagined it being said out loud. it just amuses me and makes me curious as to what else might be done or said in the future. (I'm being real vague on non spoilery purpose)
I read the 3rd Crescent City book when it came out. You're going to LOVE it, I think it's definitely the best out of the 3! I'm envious that you've not read it yet and are going to experience it for the first time, I wish I could do that!

I totally agree with you about A curse for true love, I felt like sometimes it didn't make sense to me and the ending seemed rushed to me... Definitely expected more from this book!
I PROMISE you'll love HOFAS....it's one of her best yet. I adore ACOTAR but this one is fantastic. I can't say why 'cos I won't ruin it but WOW~! I wish I hadn't read it yet so I could enjoy it again! Also, I haven't read Empire of the Damned yet either and now that it's so bloody hot out, probably coming up next month for me~!
Hi Rosa! I've always followed you for your sims build and I cannot believe I just found out about your reading channel!!! Must be because I just started reading again last month lol

Fairyloot are being ridiculous! You have every right to complain... And you should probably send another email to remind them of the missing book they charged you for! 😅 I'm in Sweden, and while I haven't had any issues with Fairyloot in the past, they always take ages to ship and they use a courier company I don't like. Pickup points are at least in my town (I feel bad for you Danes though), but not very close to my house. Illumicrate boxes always arrive at the pickup point down the street, and Owlcrate makes it all the way to my mailbox! I'm not subscribed to Fairyloot anymore, because I find it strange they pretty much charge as much as Owlcrate does for shipping, even though it's the UK vs US 🤷🏼♀️
That is so frustrating! I definitely feel like their customer service has gone down hill this year. Several of my books have come with big damage done to the spines and edges and they just say nothing can be done.
I'm still super bummed because of my Foul Heart Huntsman edges. I can see 3 layers of the motif unaligned on top of each other, and it's making the edges super blurry. They wouldn't replace it though 😅
This is ridiculous. They are so stubborn about replacing damaged books (they really need to improve their packaging as well), and they keep presenting special editions for pre-order, getting people to splurge their money, then months later saying 'due to xyz these features have been removed or changed' - Fourth Wing was supposed to have a signature, they didn't even say it wouldn't before sending the books out. And now Howl's Moving Castle - no longer a pearlescent finish and is instead holographic due to them being unhappy with the print. Wouldn't that be tested before putting something up for order? It seems ridiculous for a well established company.
one of the reasons I prefer Illumicrate's separate special edition sales - they have the books in stock in their warehouse when they go up for sale, so you also get it much sooner
Yikes, I'm so sorry this happened! t's ridiculous that they expected you to go to a city an hour and a half away to get your package! I had a similar situation once where my book got sent back to the UK with no explanation (I'm in France), but it eventually made its way to me. Still, I didn't hear a thing from Fairyloot about it, and eventually had to email and ask about it after a month of this book being lost in the postal ether. (They were nice in their response, but it was basically along the lines of "haha we don't know what's going on! lol love you!" Okay, that's great, but shouldn't you know something? 😂). And I've also received a few damaged books from them. Fairyloot's lack of transparency is such an issue for me, and honestly I might cancel my subscription soon. They can't control the post, but they can control how they address any potential issues, and how they treat their customers. Recently, there was an issue with extra duties and fees in various European countries with The Broken Binding that we normally do not have to pay. They kept us informed about the situation consistently (and not just through vague social media comments that are impossible to find, but actual emails) and they provided detailed yet easy instructions to get a refund once we we had paid the extra fees. They started the refund process within the hour after I emailed them my receipt. Anyway, the point of this long-winded rant was: damn Fairyloot, it's really not that hard to provide good customer service. Other companies do it all the time.
That’s the thing - they know and have confirmed this is an issue that’s reaching people outside of Denmark as well (they confirmed this to me and made it sounds like that’s why they’ll look into it… finally), and they have a huge social media platform (specially IG), why not write something or acknowledge they’re looking into it?? It could probably result in fewer support tickets opened, and lessen the load on their customer supporters. There’s zero transparency publicly which sucks, but then also on top of that, as someone who’s paid for my April book, but haven’t received anything about it yet, am being left in the dark privately regarding that situation too. Transparency isn’t a bad thing and it’s okay to acknowledge publicly that they’re aware of certain issues. No business is perfect, no reason to pretend they are either 😅
This is really bad. They shouldn’t be offering international postage if they haven’t got it streamlined or at least have the customer service available to deal with issues that arise. No one should be paying for a service and then having to chase it down and be out of pocket! I’ve not heard of a company having such random shipment issues. But FL is notorious for having the worse service out of the book subs. Do other UK subs arrive ok?

dude. you should absolutely rant and rave, maybe even swear a lot about the bs that Fairyloot and the delivery people are giving you. cos, that's a whole pile of wtf and eff offs.
When you quite the fairyloot subscription will you find other book subscriptions? Do you have a plan yet? Im just curious how it'll affect your content. Fairyloot definitely has its issues. Lots of them in fact. I like their special editions but they need to work on thesmselves
so sorry to hear about your delivery issues! that’s abysmal! must be extremely frustrating. did you ever get the book with the shredded pages replaced? i forget which book that was but remember gasping when you showed it. it’s very odd to place your subscription on hold without speaking to you first. sending you calming vibes, keeping my fingers crossed for your april book to arrive at your place undamaged soon, and happy reading! 💜
@@ImRosaYT that’s quite petty of them. if it’s a kind of damage that isn’t obvious when unboxing the book and can basically only be noticed when reading the book, or flicking through all the pages, exceptions should be made. at the very least a refund or store credit is in order. what a horrible service 🥺
