This channel compiles all the arrangements and compositions of Dan Turcanu for French horn players with the occasional accompaniment of other instruments. The majority of the videos featured here are not of the best quality and this is because they were recorded by the musicians themselves at home with their phones during the lockdown in 2020. During that very vulnerable time, we managed to support fellow musicians by producing materials for them to practice and play on their own. Please excuse the poor sound quality of some of these videos. We decided to still upload them because it documents the struggles and difficulties the musicians were going through in a time when the whole world was under lockdown.
Most of the scores of these pieces can (soon) be found on our website www.justforhorns.com and will be made available for purchase. We hope to create more works for brass musicians that are technically challenging, educational and fun to play!
Thank you Nigel! that is really encouraging me. With so many youtubers these day I sometimes ask myself "what exactly do I bring to my audience in return for their time?" . Seeing that you liked my video and used the score with other players, that is a highlight of my day!
If you would like to have this piece arranged for another instrument, let me know! I will add it in my Google Drive folder with free gifts. The link to that folder is always in the description box.
Que bella interpretación!, Pau Armengol. Felicidades a todo el grupo. No conocía esta pieza de Astor Piazzola. Saludos desde Vallirana, Barcelona, Catalunya, España.
it may be easier to be expressive in a live playing. When you record the voices one by one it is challenging to have finesse for minuscule details, you can't change the tempo, impossible to do Rubato. And, obviously, the arrangement is very difficult....
Thanks Melona for the kind words, they encourage me to continue the work with enthusiasm. Suren did a fantastic job recording this. Check out his channel, he has a lot of great other recordings
da, desigur! Aranjamentele au o latura mai creativa iar transcrierile cer o anumita rigurozitate. Scrieti-mi in privat la ce va ganditi. Gasiti emailul in descrierea videoului
I am glad you liked it! Yes, I had some fun making the introduction. It is like a variation on the main melody (which is augmented). You can see that dilated original melody on the 1st horn and then horn 3 in measures 8-9. It's a fun exercise to take a give melody and put it into a different light.
that's true, would be wrong if it was in a symphonic piece. There are some composers I saw who also, sometimes, ignored the 1-3-5-7, 2-4-6-8 distribution. I only do it like this in ensemble music, SATB. Asked a few big horn players and they said, as long as horn 1 and 4 are clear, 2 and 3 doesn't really matter. But you are right, of course
You are 100% correct, that is the typical symphonic arrangement of the horns. I had discussions with some big horn players and they encouraged me to write the arrangements like an SATB choir score as long as I don't mix too much the horn range.
I would like to welcome Ferdinand Palm for being the first arranger joining JUSTFORHORNS. If you love writing for/with the French horn, don't hesitate to join!
This is such a lovely arrangement for my favorite Christmas song! Incredible job !! It's times like these that I wish I knew more horn players that could do this with me LOL
