Largemouth, Smallmouth, Spotted, and Striped Bass Fishing in Northern California. We fish many different ways, but we love to catch fish on Topwater, Swimbaits, A-Rigs, Jerkbaits, Spybaits, Chatterbaits, Plastics, or whatever they are biting at the time. We have also been known to occasionally pick up the Fly Rod, which is a lot of fun and at times can be deadly. During the Winter and Spring we also like to fish for Crappie and at least once a year we go back to our roots and fish for trout.
Awesome video my Active Target is ordered and on the way. What size screen were you using ? I’ve ordered the Live 9” for mine to start with. Can’t wait
The boat is still doing it. Salmon and Steelhead on the Umpqua River, Cutthroat on the Willamette River, Crab and Salmon at Winchester Bay. We acid washed her, did a flat dark grey wrap on the upper hull and added new tires, and will be adding a Mercury 225 jet in a couple years, but the main still has only 145hrs. You did a great job setting the boat up and took good care of her. Thank you sir… Best to you and your endeavors…
Nice! My old stomping grounds! Never really caught any huge ones there, but a lot your size. Waiting for it to get a little colder to hunt the BIG ONES.
There are Salmon that go through the delta on their way up the Sac, American, Feather, Moke, and SJ rivers. We were fishing in 2-5' of water, so while it is possible it is unlikely. But there are areas, such as near Rio Vista and higher up the Sac and Old Sac where you can target Salmon. Thanks for watching and good luck.
I love the Greenies too, but when the Stripers are around we have a hard time staying away from them, lol. Surprisingly, I have caught many nice stripers while fishing for Greenies. Good luck out there
Maximus, 1000%, it is a better start to the Fall Striper Season compared to last year and compared to Spring 2021. Good luck this weekend, the wind forecast looks favorable. Hope to see you out there, say hi if you do
In the California Delta, it is fairly common to see Striped Bass with broken lines. Sometimes they are perfect, sometimes they are almost perfect, and sometimes they are so broken they look like spots. I don't know why that happens, but I am sure there is some explanation. Thanks so much for the view and comment. I hope one day to be able to fish for Stripers on the East Coast, definitely a bucket-list thing.
do you run your active target on 12 or 24v I heard it get a better return. I just got system and am still working out the mounting so far I made a pvc pole that hooks to the boat clete. I think this can be handy for mat fishing if you can aim the forward view correctly however how long to we really let a punch remain under the mat per cast. I didn't like the trolling motor mound due to spot lock limiting the direction it looks although scout mode its not as bad.
I run my Active Target on 12v. I agree spot lock can make Active Target difficult to use and the video clips come out a little jerky as a result. Let me know if it works out for your mat fishing, that would be interesting
We use Lowrance Active Target (forward facing sonar) mainly in Scout mode. You can see some of our videos on this plalist. ru-vid.com/group/PLUBCysU1hM0n-mAQ0sWaW5jG78S86GJYn We use it when we are deeper than about 5 feet
I used 4' of straight 15lb leader and will be switching to 20lb maxima as the fish get larger in the next few weeks. No fancy tapered leaders required. Since we are using sinking heads you need a short leader. This fishing is super simple compared to fishing a Spring Creek with dry flies.
We're "career" fisherman, any way, any how, any where (as long as it is ethical). We have been catching large number of smaller fish right now and just needed a way to keep it fun
This is amazing and great content! I'm curious when you compare sonar/side imaging vs active target, are you able to pick up many of these stripers too?
Active Target is forward facing sonor, and I have it setup in Scout Mode, so it is looking forward in a broad arc/angle. I am sure those fish would get picked with side imaging when they are on the side and under the trolling motor. But now that we have gotten used to forward facing sonor, we never use side imaging. Thanks for watching and for the comment
