This was one of our earlier videos, and I think we would agree with you. Its not terrible, but it is not what we would pick today. Thanks for your honesty.
Those couplings are trash. Never use them. I’ve been doing this same stuff for over 15 years and I’m always changing those out because they leak after a few years. Best to just use slip, slip couplings and glue in new pipe. If need be, add a lil more pipe so in the future if you need to replace, you have enough room to cut and replace valves again. Also never use that crap sprinkler head in video. They are also trash an I’m always replacing them for clients as well. New technology is always better. Remember that
Yeah but they forgot to mention their customer base cannot support the operation of their utility without special incentives from the state and taxes from taxpayers across California that it gives back to them to run the water utility. There-rate paying customers revenue could not even cover the cost of their employees don't believe look it up let alone day to day operation costs. where do you think it comes from?
Hi there, most of your statement is simply incorrect. The rates our customers pay for water, fund the district, and it has been that way since we started in 1913. We are sorry that you may be getting us mixed up for some other utility. You can learn about our finances here: www.hwd.com/31/About-Us
In these types of valves, the water supply side is where you see the black adjustment knobs. In this example, the source side comes from the rear pipes.
I've used those coupling connectors and was not hugely impressed. To get them to not leak sometimes took enough torque to break them. AND after a few years in the sun (or underground) they will be even more brittle.
The water meter is used to measure flow of water because they will charge you for every meter of water that goes thru the meter. Helix Water District is located in San Diego County in Southern California. to best of my knowledge having lived in the feces layered county of San Diego for most of my adolescent life.
Maybe it’s just me, but why does the music dominate the voiceover work? Don’t you want us to hear what it is that you’re saying? This is a weak point in so many videos that I watch on RU-vid. Someone needs to be looking out for the interest of the video producers. But, the people who produced the work should watch their own videos and decided they like how it sounds. I think of you listen back to this video you would wonder why you can’t hear yourself that well
The inlet and outlet pipes going downward and upward - each use a coupler which is a female threaded fitting on one side and a glued fitting on the other side, and that works in combination with a union, which is what he was using the Channellocks (adjustable pliers) to tighten. So each valve uses one coupler and one union.
I asked the SRQ water department billings clerk how many defective reading meter have they replaced. She said: "None". Meanwhile, my meter said I used 41,000 gallons last month. Yet, I can't find the pipe leak outside so far.
My meter has a digital display. Been using 2000 gal a month for years. Last month I was billed for 54,000 gals. After much investigation I found the meter was now reporting in cubic feet not gallons. 54,000 cf is 2000 gal give or take a hundred. You can check this by google “calculate gal to cubic feet”. Use the gals from your last bill to enter in calculator. You may find your now being billed for CF which makes your bill a few hundred percent higher.
My bill showed I used 83,000 for the month of August when my monthly average for the last 3 years was range from 3-6000 gallons. My bill went from $75, 80 and month to $755.
@hornet224 have you [or @tracy_nguyen or @Tide_Fan] been writing complaining letters to news or political offices locally right before the meter-outrage reading? Just wondering about the timing of your punishing bill? TTYL
@@tidefan4987 when you caught the switch and made them rectify it, did the next bill re-adjust the month's 'starting' reading to the correct units? Seems it should mess up the billing programs.. Thanks for the heads up on that trick.... I wonder whether that switch is done manually or if some hacker could send a signal to do the switch??? and how was it switched back? Great insight.... Because it was a two-step switch... 1-- pretend the 2000gal to 2000cubic yards then 2-- convert the 2000 cubic yards to genuinely equivalent 54000 cubic ft... then transmit it to some receiver that expected gallons... WOW... That sure doesn't look accldental.... Thanks again.... ttyl
Thanks for the comments, everyone. We are glad that you appreciate this brief how-to video. I wanted to share a few behind-the-scenes takeaways: Valves are easy to replace and don’t delay your repairs. When this valve broke, it caused the drip zone it was hooked up to leak 24/7, and it ended up drowning and killing a plum tree. Some of you pointed out that I filmed and applied the plumbers tape incorrectly. I apologize. I did not get footage of applying the tape correctly, which is clockwise around the threads. This video did not show that I had to uninstall the valve and reinstall it by running the tape clockwise to get the connections to seal. Thank you everyone who noticed this. Finally, if there is another how-to that you would like to see, please drop us a comment and let us know!
@@helixwaterdistrict461. For those who don’t know. It is being removed as you apply it if you go the opposite direction. Very simple Nipple threads always above my right foot. Apply Teflon away from me. A few wrap arounds and good to go. Stay clear from the first threads and your good to go
Hi Bilal. Thanks for the question. We reached out to Dan Baker for an answer to your question. Dan said, "In a multi-jet meter, water is directed into a measuring chamber and through a multi-veined rotor. The output speed of the rotor is proportional to the volume of the water. The adjustment screw on most brands of multi-jet meters is connected to an internal vein that will increase or decrease the speed of the water entering the measuring chamber. The adjustment screw is normally used by the manufacturer in the testing phase to make final adjustments for accuracy before releasing the meter for sale." Dan does not recommend adjusting the screw because it could make the meter over-register water flow.
Hello, We are using the American Water Works Association manual for water meters -selection, installation, testing and maintenance to perform our meter testing.
What a great, to the point video. Perfect for us here in California that use above ground valves exactly like these. Most other videos show buried valves or other unfamiliar valves from here on the west coast. Thanks for making this how-to video. It was the exact demo I was searching for.
