In the 1970's, the Amtrak Coast Starlight still used this same line between Davis and reconnecting to the mainline somewhere near Red Bluff. That long stretch was pretty slow going, as the track was not rated for much over 40 mph. Today, Amtrak bypasses this western track and goes through Roseville/Chico on much faster all welded track. If you miss the clickety clack of the old days, this is your railroad. It is unlikely this line will be upgraded for high speed because the local freight volume is pretty low. You have one freight run north and one run south by the same train on week days.
I was there today and I retraced John's steps retracing Buster's steps. It was a Holy experience Btw.. the last spot in your vid is actually a theatre and I saw several actors/actresses just chilling outside and I wanted to burst out telling them what iconic and Hollywood history they're standing on
Does any one, esp. Mr.Bengtson, know the rather big brick-builded church at the end of Buster Keatons "Three ages"? Didn´t find it in L.A.. Demolished? Looks rather the elevation-church in Winston-Salem,North-Carolina,but isn´t
Great! location-finding is much work. I by myself discovered thousands of them :German crime-series from 60ies on which were filmed in a great part in munich(my hometown) and surroundings. So i concentrade nearly exclusevly on this aera.otherwise its too time-consumpting and i have no personal reference to other towns.
Nice! My dad told me that he used to relax in the evenings and on weekends by driving around and watching trains on that same right-of-way. But then that was the NWP of the 1940's. Slightly different equipment. Can't wait for my chance to get down there and give this a ride.
Thank you for recording this wonderful tour. I live here in California and walked down these streets many times and didn't realize the history on what is now just streets lined with bland stucco walls.
Here's a link to a photo illustrated PDF walking tour of the studio. silentlocations.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/bk-weekend-studio-tour-guide-2018-bengtson.pdf
silentechoes57 My pleasure John. You were busting your tail that day and I noticed no one was filming you so, I grabbed my iPhone and took the tour. I cut a few thing little things because of trucks, choppers and heads getting in the way but I didn’t think you would mind. When I work on the Warner lot I have a hour and a half walking tour using my iPad that is somewhat like this so I know how much work this involved. Now when people come to visit the plaque they can cue this up and enjoy the tour. Thanks again and I hope to see you up north sometime when I’m home in Martinez.
