The Old Man Squad Sports Network is a comprehensive broadcast, podcast, videocast and social media network covering the universe's most-played fantasy sports and the biggest franchises across the world's popular sports leagues.
The Old Man Squad Sports Network has two clear goals. Goal one: we aim to provide winning analysis on full-season NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL leagues, as well as expansion into the DFS and wagering marketplaces. Goal two: we aim to cover popular teams across the globe by combining journalistic integrity and entertainment value to create the best shows possible.
Founded and helmed by Dan Besbris (who earned the nickname Old Man Besbris over many years of being fragile and boring), the The Old Man Squad Sports Network aims to help folks that are new to the sports world break in and find a niche to conquer!
I have no idea why you listen to my show, man... I try to respond to your comments when they're well thought out, but it seems like you just post when you want to hate...
hey Dan, u never managed to pronounce Coulibaly right :) Coulibalyyyyyy doesn't sound french at all :) Coulibaly with a short stress on last syllable would be much better. cheers
Nope. I looked it up and watched his Euroleague highlights. Coo-lih-buh-LEE with the accent on the final syllable is how it's also listed on the Wizards media guide.
I’ve read reports that the plan was never to keep Brogdon, the Wizards wanted to flip him but their asking price was too high. They wanted to get assets and bring Tyus back but they overplayed their hand
Splitting the 96 minutes at guard would be tough for Allen with Booker, Tyus and Beal. Only way would be if Allen/Beal take minutes at SF. Who else is getting those SF minutes anyway if Durant is at the 4 would Nurkic at the 5?
@@OldManSquad If they limit Royce to like 24 minutes, that leaves 120 at SF, SG and PG between Allen, Beal, Jones and Booker which is 30 minutes per player. Booker probably takes a few extra minutes but it can still work. Someone is going to get squeezed between Plumlee, Nurkic and Eubanks. Durant is getting his 32 minutes for sure which leaves 64 minutes at PF and C. Gotta think they signed Plumlee to actually play him so maybe Eubanks gets the scraps after Nurk and Plumlee absorb around 52 minutes?
@@OldManSquad True. Booker averaged a career high 36 mpg last season and Beal was at 33. Let's take another minute away from Royce which leaves him at 23. Then Allen and Jones could each play 26. I think generally Jones is a better fit for the situation because you already have 3 top tier scorers but Allen is such an efficient 3p shooter it's hard to justify taking him off the court (wild sentence to type out considering the first 3 years of Allen's career with the Jazz and the Grizz).
Paolo is a super inefficient player which is why he's not good for category leagues. Also the reason he won't be a star in real basketball. Let me know which good players are bad at both FG% and FT%
@@shahud1890 oh yeah, the guy who just carried the whole team of non-shooters in the playoffs in his 2nd year while averaging 27/9/4 is not gonna be a star. Good argument.
@@shahud1890 crazy you think Westbrook is never a star in this league or if Wemby wasn’t a star last year. But sure go off. Having good percentages while never being able to scale up if given a bigger role is the problem with overrating efficiency. I guess you are one of those fantasy nerds who think Jalen Williams is a better in real life player than Paolo.
Anyone who thinks Franz is capable of being the #1 option doesn’t know basketball. He’s only efficient because Paolo is there to shoulder the load. Let’s not get it twisted who should be the #1 option.
Franz is quite good - don't undersell him. In any case, there's sorta no more usage for him so my point stands that he's probably just going to repeat last year in fantasy
Though I agree with the overall point you’re making I think there’s a flaw with the “punt Wemby’s best category” argument. Most players at the top of draft boards aren’t great at blocks and get boosts for having the category punted. Would be interesting to compare his punted z-score to other player’s individual “best category punted” z-scores.
Interesting there was no Brunson in the early 2nd round pack. Early ESPN projection have him early 2nd round (don’t trust these at all), but interested in your thought on where Brunson would fit here. Around the 20-24 range (end of 2nd start of 3rd range)??
Why are you comparing Jokic to rookie Wembanyama and assuming Victor won’t make any improvements in any of his below average categories? He can easily be 48fg% and 85ft% lol
What on earth are you talking about? I said probably 5-10x that I expected Victor would improve some. My complaint remains that his value is HEAVILY tied into a league-best blocks mark and Jokic provides a better foundation for a team trying to win 5-6 categories. Also I don't know about 'easily' on those % jumps
I'd still expect it to be Gafford. And even if they lean young, Gafford has the more fantasy-friendly game so he'd still be my preferred target among the two
Yeah, not worth spending any legitimate draft capital on him, but given Kyrie's injury history and Luka going to the Finals Klay might have 30-40% of the season with higher FGA. So maybe more of a games cap play to deploy just when it fits...
I am really excited to start drafting after finding your channel last season. You and Josh are my go to’s for fantasy info and since I started listening to your sports ethos channel, I’ve turned into a way better & disciplined fantasy player!
Nurk was really good for me this season, albeit on my Giannis-lead punt FT & TO team. Had to learn when to best use him ... I sat him on the day he had 30 Reb because I couldn't risk the TOs. I won that week because I didn't play him on his arguably best game of the season 😂
Hahaha that's awesome. Yeah, he had his moments in particular builds. He'll get pushed for playing time more this year with Plumlee being a better backup than Eubanks.
Hi Dan, as you may know ESPN has already (in April) released their "way-to-early Roto and Category league rankings for 2024-25". My league always drafts on ESPN. Since their rankings are horrible as always, could you do a little part where you give your opinion on a few things that stand out to you?
It’s going to be really interesting to see where Jalen Johnson gets drafted this year. It’s crazy to think that I snagged him off the waiver wire this season
@@OldManSquad i was waiting for new Videos on Sports Ethos. After searching for Fantasy content in generell, i saw a RU-vid short of yours for thia channel - thats how i found you again 😄
@@DemBirdsFlyHigh I appreciate you thinking outside the box but I still have faith folks will continue to slowly realize I'm over here now just like Jordan there below
I found the Old Man Squad Sports Network by Google Search and seeing the twiXter posts from the old & new channels. Came to RU-vid to Like/Comment/Subscribe last week! Have been catching up on all the missed live streams since...
A reasonable question. Most guys in the 120's don't even really have upside any more in competitive leagues. Those guys usually go between 95 and 115 I've found. At a certain point in H2H it's okay to have a 90-100 range dude that plays most every day since zeroes often hurt so much more.
Why is it that whenever you talk about Wemby, you tend to focus only on the possibility of his blocks regressing? Do you not expect any other categories of a rookie going into his 2nd year to improve (fg%, TO)?
Kinda splitting hairs. I said he's probably right behind Jokic for me and just explaining why I feel that way. Lots of things can go up or down but blocks is the biggest reason he's in the top-3 already.
Its a little early for me to be doing basketball mock drafts, I'm big into the fantasy football drafts this time of year. But still like to see where guys are going, like Embiid at pick 19. Thanks 👍
Isn’t it a little bit disingenuous to look at ADP from a strict 9 cat stand point consider the majority of leagues are H2H with some sort of punting? For example, no one drafted Banchero expecting to not punt turnovers and FT%. I know it’s impossible to account for all punting scenarios but at least use a minus 1 ranking?
I don't think disingenuous is the proper term. Plus, 9-cat roto is sort of still the pure way. Now, if folks want to adjust for their build, I'm always fine with that, but assuming someone is going to punt 2 things is too far in my eyes. It's okay for us to disagree on this, though. Paolo, for example, is never going to be a good pick if you aren't specifically punting something on draft night... which is sort of how I operate at least through the first few rounds. I make my choices on that stuff later on.
@@OldManSquad Okay good. Didn't want you to stop doing that kind of stuff with this new thing you got going on. You're easily the top fantasybball analyst so I'm looking forward to all this new content.
Turnovers float the value of big men because they don’t need to play make. Which also explains why your old man squad would always have more big men than wings/guards.
For rookies, the guards often have way more issues than just TOs, though... like Trae Young... his value wasn't low because of TO his rookie year... it was the ultra high-volume like 39% shooting for 4.5 months before he started to figure it out
I bet you Brunson ends up at the end of the first round or early 2nd round. Like you said not a lot of concrete names at the top and the Knicks hype will get him there.
