Nice song! ...Honestly, though, I didn't like the sounds. I kinda hate to say it, but: that would have sounded so much better with a different synth. The programming of the song, though, was very "you" and I really dig it. If that was all in the OXI (seems like a cool unit), it would be interesting to hear this song again, driving a different synth. ...The Digi* might be too obvious (plus, why would you use an external sequencer?) ... but do you still have, say, the Hydrasynth? Could be fun to hear the difference. Sorry. <reads other comments> <wince> Maybe it's just me, then. ...Personal opinion, anyway. Either way, eep it up, though, you're great!
Thanks Jeremy !! I can understand your perspective. While I was working on this track, I actually wished I had started with a different sound generator a few times. For the first track, I wanted a partner that was as "simple" and small as possible so that I could concentrate fully on the sequencer... and that could be played polyphonically. I'm actually quite happy with the sounds, as they are samples of my own patches (also Hydrasynth), but in contrast to these, samples are just snapshots and quite lifeless. Using an LFO per sample can only breathe life into the samples to a limited extent. The reverb on the black box is also OK, but quite sterile. All in all, the black box shines, especially when you work with loops and long samples... which I didn't do in this case.
I still have the Hapax. Even though the OXI is a really inspiring sequencer, it can't really replace the Hapax. Hapax is so much more powerful in almost every area... it just doesn't have these unusual and creative sequencer modes, the great chord mode of the oxi and isn't really portable... and isn't nearly as beautiful a device (externally) 🙈
@@substan_musicso chord mode is that better on the Oxi? I'm curious to know how does the two compare on the isomorphic keyboard aspect too, I find the Hapax incredibly inspiring on that mode, and I guess part of that is about the nice feeling I get from the pads. Are the Oxi pads/buttons comparable? And what about key combos and general workflow? Sorry for all the questions, but owning the Hapax and the Torso T1 I'd like to know if the Oxi would be a nice addition or a not much needed middle ground between the other boxes. P.s. Really great track, as usual! 😎
Thanks a lot mate !! not all .. there are also 2 droning samples on 2 tracks of the S4. But the arp for example is created with the granular effect of the S-4 out of the signal from Elmyra.
Deep into the caverns of time, Ocean whispers on the breeze of wind, The blips and swirls of cabled sounds, The energies of living coaxed into The rhythmic feel of peace and calm. While memories appear and dance, And life’s reflections energize tomorrow’s steps, It’s music’s pull, The space of sound, Helps to move the energy ‘round, And into life’s eternal wonder, We dance, and laugh, And love each other. ✨✨✨Thank you for this magical backdrop of life. Music is my medicine.
Thank you for this great instrument !! Funnily enough, the arpeggio actually comes from the drones. The granular effect of the S-4 generates them from the signal of Elmyra.
Hey Substan, how is the S4 currently? I ordered one but ive seen some people complaining about various bugs and whatnot. Can you elaborate abit on that? Thx in advance, keep on being awesome❤
Unfortunately, not much has changed since the release. They have fixed an annoying bug where the settings of the LFOs were not saved correctly. But still the tape only loads about 10-15 seconds of a sample and not 6 minutes which should be possible (you can record 6 minutes). It's actually ambivalent for me. On the one hand, I can understand the users' complaints and the S4 doesn't really feel anything like a finished device ... not even like it's in the beta stage. It's strange when (it feels like) half of the buttons only lead to a comming soon message and essential things like midi clock sync are not yet implemented. It somehow feels like a teaser. On the other hand, what is being teased is really great. The whole concept of this device makes total sense to me and I really enjoy what you can already do with it. When this box grows up (having multiple modules per slot to choose from / changing the order of the slots / and of course all buttons actually doing something) it will be an incredible playground for sound experimentation ... somehow it already is, but the flexibility leaves a lot to be desired. The filter bank is great and I don't have a comparable tool. The granular part is the weakest point for me and not very spectacular ... I would have liked a granular synth but it's really just a very simple granular effect. To summarize ... I'm absolutely not totally disappointed and I'm already enjoying playing around with this alpha version. But I can't wait for torso to deliver (and they seem to be taking their time) ... and there's A LOT to deliver just to get the device out of the alpha. Until we get more than what has already been promised, we will probably still have to wait a long time.
I'm a string player who has been looking for a hardware device to create interesting ambient pads. Have owned synths in the past (most recently Hydrasynth Explorer), but I need something reasonably small/portable for travel, and have had my eyes on everything from Digitakt, Dirtywave M8 tracker, SP-404 etc. Now this Tempera is on my radar, and I really enjoy your approach here - it's beautiful. I'm just concerned that learning how to use this device would be over my head, and I'm also wondering how versatile it can be vs. something like Digitakt?
A granular synth and the Tempera in particular are definitely my first choice when it comes to the ambient pads you mention. Digitakt is great (M8 & Sp-404 I've never had my hands on) but definitely wouldn't be my first choice when it comes to pads. If only because of the lack of polyphony. The Digitakt is great if you want to make whole tracks with a single device. Playing around with loops, samples, building beats... things like that. How difficult it is for you to learn tempera is unfortunately impossible for me to answer ... From my perspective, it is not exceptionally complex and difficult to understand. Definitely no more difficult than an Elektron device like the Digitakt 😅
Adrift, a memory in space, deep reflecting pool, subtle and cavernous, patterns in nature, a feeling from the roots, pulsing frequencies, brilliant diamonds flickering in the light, a gradient atmosphere, luminous pathways, jeweled overtones, dusty hallways….visions I had during this awesome piece✨✨✨✨
