The Berkshire Carousel is a community project designed to create an authentic classic wooden carousel that is both a work of art and a wonderful form of family entertainment.
The project involves hundreds of volunteers from Berkshire County who are carving, sanding, and painting the carousel ponies and creating the artwork to be featured on the ride. The Berkshire Carousel will be the most ambitious and largest permanent artwork ever created in the Berkshires. The Carousel is to be completed in 2014.
All the 40 ponies are being hand carved by volunteers working with professional carvers. The ponies are being modeled after classical figures made in the USA during the Golden Age of Carousels (1880 - 1930). The ponies will reflect the styles of the major carvers of the time period.
I Think this informative video shouldn't of been sped up like that it's interesting to know about how carousels are made without spending the video up.
great work !!!! (yeah as a carrousel owner it made me cringe too ..but you guy did well !!! I see the heart !!! (I m used to build and only touch something once )... but this build is to last for years !!!!
They do amazing work, I can see the amazement on their faces when finished the pride in the finished product.. what a nice few minutes for us to watch the horses come almost to life...
If you read the description they are not payed and many volunteers helped. Also these have platforms in pieces that weigh over 100 pounds + each. I helped tear a carousel down took more then a hour and a half to tear down by hand lifting the platforms on the truck.
