Here at the Bettencourt Homestead we are into all ways to save money, be healthy and active and learn the old ways and new ways of doing basically life. We aren't scared of using technology to make life here easier either. We bought a few acres and over the years have sculpted it out to be exactly what it is today. A place to feed us and protect us from what life throws our way.
Keep up the great work and story telling. I think many of us can relate to the time and efforts it takes to achieve all we want by taking baby steps. I really enjoyed this video and I am new to your channel.
We are human and sometimes we mess up. All we could do is apologize and try not to do the same thing again. I bet when he gets home with those two loaves of bread, he’ll rethink things and he’ll be ok. The bread looked delicious and amazing.
I germinated 12 year old tomato seeds this year! The plants are in my garden! I know the germination % goes down with age.. but everything depends on storage conditions! Great video, Thanks!
That's awesome! I have some very old seeds. All stored the same way.. some work and some just don't. What concerns me is if people are depending on them for an emergency. and they won't be there for them. :-( How devastating. I love tomatoes!!! Thanks for being here my friend.
I use bioidentical hormones to help me through menopause. The hot flashes were bad and i needed relief! It works well for me so far! Found your channel because of Heidi from Rain Country❤
I am so far you found something that worked also! Those hot flashes were horrible. :-( I am so glad you found me. Heidi is so very kind. I love her channel.
Hi! I saw one if your videos, I like the content and the knowledge you share and now I'm subscribed to your channel. What grain grinder you use and do you recommend. Thank you!
Welcome to my channel. I am so glad you found me! I love the wondermill for easy use and the price. But it is limited on the coarseness it can do.. so I have a back up (not electric) which is the countryliving grainmill which I will eventually get out of the box to make my husband cream of wheat which he loves.. I hope that helps. I am here to answer anything you might want to ask.
Here from Heidi! I wish I knew my zone😜 the experts say zone 8. SW Oregon. They base it on a nearby town but our weather is a lot different from our town(7 miles away)!! Last frost is roughly mother's day but last night was 35° so too close for my taste! This year we've mostly been 60's in April -May & wet, last year 90-100 & dry. 🙄
Hello Neighbor!!! I love Heidi!! I love on the Central Oregon Coast and honestly we can't really go by zone's here. They say I am 8B but I am really 9A. The PNW has so many micro climate zones that you have to judge more by your tiny slice of land.. and which direction it faces... There is an awesome book I use for reference called gardening in the PNW by carol w hall and Norman E Hall. I always find copies in used book stores. I will put a photo of it up on our facebook page (The Bettencourt's) so you can see what it looks like. He talks about growing zones in our area and subregions. Highly recommend. But man do I hear ya on the weird weather.
My Grandmother would say this often too! She would also tell us "use it up... wear it out... make it do... or do without!" Great tip on the cleaning rags...I have a dollar tree dish pan full of them too! Turns out grandma taught us well!🌻🐛🌿💚
Sounds like you had an amazing grandmother!!!! I love the old time wisdom. I have a 3 part series of interviewing a women named Sue who is in her 90s on here... She shared so much information. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! I will check out those videos! I am very new to your channel but so far have found a "kindred spirit" in your content. (my grandmother was born 1893... my mother in1927... myself 1948) Blessings on your day Kiddo!🌻🐛🌿💚
Yes it is. But as long as it has the Yogurt button you can do this with any size IP. Just adjust the yogurt you use to inoculate the milk accordingly! Thanks for watching.
Hi... just came over from Rain Country with Heidi and just subscribed because of your wheat berry salad recipe! This is the style of recipe I enjoy the most... so versatile! Thank you! Blessings on your family and your homestead Kiddo!🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿💚
Blessings to you and your family! Heidi is so amazing isn't she?!! That wheat berry salad is absolutely amazing! And so easy!!!! Let me know what you think of it!! Thanks for being here.
I am very curious to know how you can bake bread 1hr after grinding and get more benefits than a sourdough bread provides. Are these berries pre-soaked before you grind them? I’m asking as a person who has difficulty tolerating grains and does not necessarily care for the sourdough making process. I’m not sure if you’ve ever had that issue with grains, but I came to your channel from “Rain Country”. She shared your story where you mention healing your autoimmune issues as well as many other interesting things! Anyway, any info you care to share about the health benefits of freshly made bread I’ll gladly read. Thanks for your time!
Actually, I just saw your Q&A compilation. It’s great that you put that together! It’s doing its job, as some of my questions have been answered. I will experiment with grinding my own grains and see if it helps!
Are there any questions you have left after watching the compilation video? I would love to answer what I know. I healed my gut.. and my husbands by making all our own bread products. I have the recipes on here but getting ready to release quite a bit more... We recently went on a work trip and then company back and forth... It was hard being away from our wheat grinder. I totally felt the difference. Although it wasn't as bad since my gut was healed... it totally showed me this way of grinding was so much better. Tip that might help you... I grind all my wheat on the pastry setting. This way the berries are smaller and less grainy and my breads rise better. Thanks for being here.
Amy if there is anything I can help you with please just ask. I try to share everything I learn after I test it and research it. Thanks for being here and praying for you to find all the answers and help with what is going on with you.
@@TheBettencourts After listening to the full compilation I think the best thing to do is to just try it and see how my body takes to it. I can see how the pastry setting could make it even more easy on the body to digest as well. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and your willingness to take the time to help people. It may seem strange to say, but with the world as chaotic as it is right now things like this add some hope and positivity.
Oh a whole new world of health has opened up to you! 90% of the vitamins and minerals are gone 3 days after grinding the berries... The complete B vitamins are in wheat berries!!! If there is anything I can help you with please ask!!!
It seems there's no easy button for woman on this. So so sad! I'm 48 but don't have a lot of perimenopause symptoms. The only reason at this point I want to consider is to PREVENT the big diseases (my mom had all three). And I am a natural gal with the essential oils and stuff. ugh!!!!
Right!!!! I was all natural and was doing very well with minimum symptoms till my mid 50s. Looking back I felt so smug about how I was handling it. I feel so bad with how I acted. Now, seeing the benefits.. and reading the actual results of how the test was ran... I am on board to help alleviate what I have now learned are the late phase symptoms that come on like a vengeance towards the end of Peri. I am praying for you and your symptoms.
No. From what I researched... our hormones are all over the place and vary on a daily bases. So tests are not accurate. There is a specialist that states he does testing.. but he does them on the 4th day after a women's cycle at all times... To judge the levels on the same day. He also said, that isn't really accurate with how female hormones fluctuate depending on time of our cycles and stress factors. My doctor goes by signs of symptoms and how the HRT is alleviating them. Great question and one that is different depending on drs.
I love my bio-identicals... thank you to my naturopath. I had an eating disorder as a late teen. I have really, really grown away from a lot of it. The Intermittent Fasting is a great tool.
I am on bio identical, estroliol, estradiol, pregnenelone, DHEA, and a small amount of testosterone. I tried the OB/GYN patches that are with the altruistic methods and it didn’t work for me either. I now have no hot flashes. I use Ona’s progesterone cream, in addition to the compounded bio identical that my DO OB/GYN prescribes at sleep time, but when I was going with a normal OB/GYN, who was using the patches and the regular pharmaceutical stuff, I wasn’t having any real improvement . And in fact, I had issues with pH balance if you catch my drift.
I catch your drift!! :-) The generic patch they gave me in error, was horrible and I was regressing... I found out that we all react differently to each manufacturer... Thanks for your comment.. I love how on point you are!!!!
Oh, interesting comment I don't have the packaging... and I no longer have the broken ones.. but I will try that with the next one! Just because now I need to know! LOL thank you for the comment.
I just looked it up on Amazon because we don't have a Costco and Sam's has no such thing. 30.99 was a decent deal. My children can continue drinking maxwell house. I was a heavy soda drinker for the longest time, but as you can imagine it started taking a toll. I couldn't just give up caffeine entirely though because then there is no up in my giddy up. I do cold brew now and buy myself small batch roasts but drinking about 2 cups a day (and not full cups because I only like a little coffee with my creamer and milk and I actually need the calories) a 12 oz bag of coffee makes 3 3/4 of a gallon pitchers and that lasts about 5 days. I was buying pre-made concentrate at first (still cheaper than soda), but going to making my own cold brew by the pitcher is much cheaper and I'm finding there are some coffees that I actually like and not just the caffeine. The rest of the soda got replaced with a cirkul water bottle (I can only drink plain water ice cold and it's hard to keep it cold in GA and it really hurts my teeth) and I got my husband to switch out half his monster and all of his soda consumption for cirkul as well. I still spend about $100 a month on cirkul cartridges but thats in place of 2 cases of monster and upwards of 10 cases of soda each month, which is certainly more than 100 bucks.
GA dweller here to tell you that it wouldn't be dry in 15 minutes.... don't underestimate the power of the humidity. Nothing dries here, and I mean nothing. Dehydrating food requires an extra 12-24 hours. Line drying clothes outside is a joke, when my dryer broke I had to hang a line in my master bathroom with the dehumidifier and fans going to get anything to dry and still had to wait about 8 hours. Anyway, I'm so happy I watched this as I've been considering buying some of these for quite a while now. I'm glad I didn't take the leap.
I was just in Georgia!!! Yes humid. But so am I here on the coast of Oregon. I will say the heat you have makes it much worse... In my eyes. I had to make a clothes drying line in my garage. I hang my laundry on the line inside the very hot garage. That works!!! and you didn't talk about paint drying... That takes forever here!!!! ;-) LOL Thanks for being here.
