hey mate great vid and advice, planning a long weekend trip to go trout fishing, can you give me some info on location, wanting to got to the vic highcounty but don't know where to go as I'm from Canberra, any advice?
@darcybettenay_mtb Hey mate, cheers for the support. Plenty of great rivers in the High Country that hold trout. The Ovens, King, Mitta Mitta, Kiewa, Howqua, Upper and Lower Goulburn, Jamieson , Big, Buffalo, Dargo and Wonnangatta rivers all hold good populations of trout.
@mathewortega6529 Hey mate, for targeting trout I fish between Molesworth and Eildon. Basically just find a bridge or parking spot close to the river and walk up or downstream depending on access 👍
@lukejustin9116 cheers mate. Pretty much every river in the High Country holds trout. My favourite way to fish the High Country is just drive and stop at any good looking spots 👌
nice vid mate, im fortunate to live in the high country, and am sweating on opening on the 6th. the bloke who planted blackberrys wasnt a pom..lol..it was ferdinand von mueller, while i hate them too,( i carry a machete ,for access in some spots ), i hate the litter dropping bastards who cant take their rubbish out,or burn bloody toilet paper...ok, ive calmed down, picked up a coupla tips, thanks and cheers
All rivers in Victoria are open year round to fish. In the closed season you CAN NOT take or process trout. Only sections of the goilburn ,mitta mitta ,tanjil and kiewa rivers in the nth east and the Goulburn tail race and it tributaries down to trawool bridge are closed completely to any hook or line fishing for any species during the closed season
@@markhartshorne6648 sorry, are you telling me that part from the rivers you mentioned I can go and fish for trout in any river as long as I release it? So Upper Yarra, cobungra , Tarago etc? Did not know!
@jacobanderson9862 Hey mate, you can usually tell be the tail. Stocked fish often don't have a full developed tailfin, tends to be a bit short and stumpy compared to the rest of their body.
How good! Still yet to jag my first trout after 3 trips. Got six days off though now so heading up to Thornton/Alexandra area for 2 nights, fingers crossed I get something!
I’ve been bouncing worms through streams for a lifetime, I’m intrigued and excited about giving this style of fishing a go. Thank you for sharing your trip and the advice you’ve offered, appreciated.
Yeah unfortunately there's not as many options in SA, might be worth getting in touch with the South Australian Fly Fishers Association and see if they have any suggestions 👍
