Very nice video! Thanks for sharing it. It is a pretty spot to take a walk. The old Collins Creek Manway used to be a maintained park path that went up and joined Thomas Divide Trail.
Cool video, great quality. Been there a few times. The landslide had caused some damage on the section where the vertical shafts are. From the looks of it you didn't get to see that
Hey dieselwelds, thanks for the compliment. Actually I did check out the storm damaged areas on my favorite Smithgall Woods trail. I considered filming that section as well, but didn’t feel good about it. A week later I told a ranger at the visitor center I thought about posting the damaged section and he said, “Please, please, please don’t do that”.
Hey Loner! I’ve recently retired and plan on getting in some serious trail time. Looking to go up to Virginia next year and pick up where I left off on my way to Katahdin.
Beautiful vid up in NC close to my cabin! I am going back asap! I am terrified of bears but in almost 9 years of living up there, we have been blessed to never have even seen one! We have seen much other wildlife. I love your peaceful, beautiful vid! Are you hiking the Appalachian Trail right now? God is love! 🙏✌💕👣💙☺👣Be safe! May the Lord bless you!
I finished the last mile in the dark walking by headlamp. Two bears 🐻🐻 came charging down the mountain past me; one in front and the other behind. A few yards further a copperhead snake lay in the trail so I had to wait for it to slither off. Didn’t see another hiker the entire time.
Well, the elk usually come into that field late in the afternoon or early evening. So I started shooting the video about an hour or two after lunchtime.
I have been to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area a dozen times in my 48 years alive but never visited Cades Cove. We did a few weeks ago and I can't wait to go back. So much history and beauty there. Thanks for posting this video.
I've been wanting to hike to the "Lost Hiker Tunnel" very cool place it looks. Newfound Gap always seems busy even in the rain haha. But beautiful views driving through there!
Probably one of the best kept secrets in the park. I’ve been to Newfound Gap more times than I can remember and only recently found out about the tunnel from another RU-vidr (Hiking with Braids). The tunnel is about 100 yds. past the air quality monitoring station and pullout just inside the gate on Clingmans Dome Road. Look for a short span of retaining wall and go past it into the woods. It’s steep going down the hill. The tunnel is on the right.
@@november151956 I guess it depends on the day of the week as well. It is straight up for a while and not many people except hikers like that type of terrain! Cheers
Thanks for sharing! I'm doing a virtual journey on the AT. I'm walking locally and comparing my mileage to the AT map. I'm at 18.8 miles so almost to Woody Gap. I'm a senior so I can only do a mile or two at a time. Beautiful video.
