You could have added a piece of foam in there and it would have made a better impression and also a magnetic sheet for magnets to hold your paper down.
Une des meilleures vidéos que j'ai pû regarder. Elle est très bien expliquée, il n'y a pas besoin de paroles et je vais la fabriquer en suivant bien votre exemple. Bravo, tout est parfait.
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. I’m surprised the owner of the Misti hasn’t come after you for this. She has quite the reputation for viciously going after anyone who gives people the idea to make their own stamping tool instead of buying one of her exorbitantly priced tools.
This is amazing , I'm going to try and make one like yours, I have everything lying around except the hinges, but I can get them easily enough. Ty for Sharing.
Melanie Alexander Hi Melanie, this was my first video and I didn't know how everything worked so that's why there's no sound. And I don't think you would understand Dutch anyway 😊
hi.. such a great tutorial. could you please tell me if cling mounted stamps fit in it or do you need to add another layer of cardboard to make the lip deeper? thank you...
Is there enough depth to use cling mount? How much was the total cost for u to make as opposed to buying the misti? I have the big one but I'd like the stamping area to be bigger, might make one...
HandCraftedBoutique 1 I made 2 big ones like this one (a4 size) and I have acrylic left. I spend €30 total and I could make another one or a couple of smaller ones. The smallest misty costs €60 so this was a really cheap option 😁
Can you repost the measurements and materials. I have looked high and low and it doesn't show anywhere. I saw that you said you posted it in comments, but it is not showing on my machine.
I FINALLY got around to making it! I had everything except the hinges. It was easy, thanks to your video. I have been playing with it for a couple of hours....So much fun. thanks again for sharing.
+misstorina3 Yes, but actually I didn't have to cut them. you can buy them at a craft store, cut & ready to go. I had extras from previous scrapbooking projects. You can find them in the craft paints section. different sizes.
+Susie Muckleroy you are lucky!!! we have to buy them from a special manufactureres. it cost a lot. I got mine from ali express for 8$ for a 20cm*20cm a piece :-(
+Harini Thummala Hi, well get ready to hate me just a tad. I got them on clearance about 3 yrs. ago? I thought I paid like .25¢, but I just now went to check the wrapping in my scrapbook trash, they were .10¢ each. which explains why I made so many acrylic scrapbooks. lol! the tag doesn't have the store name, but I'm pretty sure they are from Michaels. These are "Styrene Painting Blank" and the brand name is DecoArt. they are thin, but very strong & work great for everything I have used them for. Sorry for the long reply. I hope it helps.
Vielen Dank, thanks a lot for this Video! I dont need vocals because for me it is easier to read instructions in English ( my speech is German). This is such a great idea and is not as expensive like the original, thank you for sharing :D
Well thank you for the compliment! I loved making it and share it so people can make one for themselves for less dan a real one. If it had sound it would be Dutch so you probably wouldn't understand anyway 😄 #ungrateful #firstvideoonyoutubeever #
How rude to put on such a comment when someone is sharing their time and effort for absolutely free! You could have been more constructive in your comment... Great work Fay, especially for a first video, thank you for sharing. It was very clear to me. If you plan future videos, there is software for computers and even iPads that allows editing of videos to add sound and/or text instructions that appear on the screen in the video, should you be interested in doing so :)
Who would have thought that you could make an $80.00 stamping tool so easily and for so little? I especially like that the one side is open which would allow a longer card to hang out. I've seen others that use foam core board instead of the cardboard too. Thanks for sharing!
Misti has a foam matting for a sharper stamped image when using "clear acrylic" stamps, it looks like they used cardboard from a paper pack. when the foam Matt is removed, it becomes the proper depth for the thicker "cling"stamps. Something they may not have accommodated for here. Just sharing.
I'm so excited about this but without sound I can't tell what the measurements are. Could you please post them along with a better description of the materials you used. Thank you in advance!
What thickness of acrylic plate? I'm thinking too thick will mean no flexibility, you need some flexibility for rubbing the stamp area to get a good impression?
Thanks, I found 2mm at a local hardware store and that did the trick! But, my glue gun didn't really stick successfully had to use tons to get it to stick - it's all around the hinge in lumps. But it works, been stamping very happily with it ever since :)
+grazie0316 I must say it is VERY expensive!! I am sure you can find it in USA in a fraction of this price. there is the link 4mm * 200mm * 200mm Transparent Clear Acrylic Plexiglass Safety Glazing Frame Plastic Plate Sheet #A123b s.aliexpress.com/VJvaU777 (from AliExpress Android)
+misstorina3 hi! Thanks for the reply. I dont live in the US i do live in Europe. How about you? I found something here its a frame with no wood and i think its a perfect size.so omorrow im looking forward to buy some hinges and iwill do it. Immediately when icome home...im so glad there are a lot of crafters sharing ideas here. Wanna say thank you also to the one who made this video!
+misstorina3 i also almost push the buy button and decided to see other tutorials first and i found someone who used some frame and it gave me an idea!
I don't know if they sell the supplies on aliexpress. Maybe it's best to go to your local hardware store and get the items there or see how they're called so you can buy them online.
I found the best price on Amazon for plexiglass. Under $15 for a sheet that is 12" x 24". Depending on the seller, you can find it for under $5 before shipping!
English directions: Measurements of the accrilic plate 50x33 cm Cut the plate in ahlf at 25 cm. I used a special blade to cut it. A piece of cardboard 3mm thick and 33x25 cm. Draw the placement of the hinges on the cardboard. Measure 1,5 cm at both sides and at the side of the hinges 3,5. This will be the edge where you put your paper you will be stamping against so it doesn’t move. Than you cut where you drew the placement of the hinges so you get a gap you can glue your hinges in. Draw a line where you measured 3,5 cm at the side of the hinges. At the other side where you measured 1,5 cm you do the same. Then you can cut at the lines so your left with a frame when you’re finished. My cardboard is 3mm thick. If you don’t have cardboard that thick you can glue two thinner pieces together. Important is to see if the hinges fit in the gap you cut previously. Now you can glue the cardboard frame you cut on one piece of the acrylic plate. Put the glue on the cardboard using a hot glue gun. Then you place it on the acrylic frame. Make sure both pieces line up evenly. Press it firmly. Now you can glue your hinges to the acrylic plate. Its best to do this one at a time all open and facing in the same direction. And press firmly. Cut pieces of thin cardstock or paper to put inside of the hinges and then shut them. This is to prevent you from glueing the hinges shut. No you can glue the other plate to the hinges. Put enough glue on all of the hinges. And put the acrylic plate on top. Line the plate up with the other plate and press firmly. Now you can remove the pieces of cardboard inside the hinges, and also remove the foil of the acrylic plates. I put washi tape on the cardboard and on the outside of the acrylic plate so it looks more fun and hides the hinges. Done!! Now you can use it!
