Thanks for these videos. They are the best I've found in terms of actually using the synth and not just going through theoretical features. I have the manuals and everything, so it's really the craft and the workflows different people use to compose on this thing that I find most helpful.
Hello, we have a problem.. we can't understand, arpeggiator is on, we are trying to play notes together with other instruments(drum, guitar etc), but when we pressing the keys sometimes we have a delay of sound..why? Is it velocity?
Thanks. Glad you like my music. If you want to know the basics of the JD-Xi, I have several tutorials explaining how to make a basic song, drums, basslines, and so on. Nothing fancy, but I think they might be useful.
Wow! I can't begin to tell you how much I've been going around in circles trying to work out how to layer patterns make full songs using favourites. You've just made my day. Thanks 😁👍
Good tutorial thanks. It is probably an error on my part but when I got to the stage where you make a bassline, I completely lost the pattern of drums I has just made. Seems to have vanished haha. Not sure how i managed that.
@palerider_New80s_music I think you are right. I've only just started learning how to piece together full songs using favourites etc. Not had the synth for long. On the surface it looks like a groove box toy, but now I've seen some RU-vid videos, I'm starting to realise it's a very detailed machine under the hood. I'm very impressed with it. So is it a case of using shift and saving each sequence in each of the 16 Favourites buttons. Thanks again 😎👍 EDIT: Sorry, I mean are there other ways to layer the sequences together for playback other than Favourites?
@judgeberry6071 Not in this synth. The JD-Xi has not a Song mode. To create full songs with up to 8/16 tracks, you’d scale to upper synths like the Fantom series.
Cool, thanks! I have a question: Several presets show a drumkit which is not in the list of the 33 factory kits. Do you know how to access these extra drumkits? I downloaded a user generated jd xi editor, but as a guitarist I am a bit lost with that. Thanks and cheers from Germany Wolfgang
Sorry, but I’ve never listened to the presets. Anyway, I think you can copy the drum patterns made with this new kit, and paste it into a pattern you are doing. Sorry, I can’t help you in this question.
The sounds in the factory sequencer patterns are a little bit different than those on a category selector wheel. In fact you have more sounds than what you think. Assign the desired patterns as favorites and use the sound copy shortcut (read the PDF manual). You are able to copy sounds between the patterns.
Hi. It's Focusrite Clarett 4 pre USB. When I got it, I didn't know actually how to make the right conections. In this video, the connections are made in the frontal instrument audio slots (both of them mono). The right way to connect two stereo or mono synths is using the LINE slots 5 & 6 for one synth, and 7 & 8 for the other synth (if it's mono, use just one of them). Make sure to setup correctly the focusrite inputs and outputs with the software provided. Don't forget setting up your DAW inputs and outputs as well.
Hey thanks ! I am gonna take M-AUDIO M Track DUO, as audio interface, which has two line inputs and edit both signals in DAW. As M Track DUO has no midi option, I will sync both synths with midi as in this video.
I have now m audio m track duo audio interface with two inputs like focusrite. Did you merge the left/right audio outputs of jdxi with cable jack reduction to focusrite ?
Of all the videos I’ve watched this is the only one I’ve heard make this seem like a real instrument. I figured it was people not knowing what to do with it, and it’s a good thing you proved it because I already bought one online.
Anyone found and undo function on this? Like to undo the last change? That real-time record can be a nightmare If you're layering on the same sequence and make a mistake.
If you're layering on the same sequence and make a mistake, there's no solution. You have to erase the whole sequence and start again. It's pretty tiresome.
@@palerider_New80s_music I was worried you'd say that. I keep forgetting to switch off the record button after recording some notes, and then when I use the pitch wheel or cutoff/effects etc, it records the changes and messes my whole mix up. I have an Sh-d4, and although it's very easy to make a mistake on that it does have a limited undo function, was hoping this did too.
Excellent stuff...this was an iconic tune and I remember it was always the start song on one of my mix tapes. Great that you are showing exactly the sequence of keys needed to make that sound
Thanks for your explanation! Maybe one important thing not to forget: route everything through the compressor except snare, clap, hihat and toms. Did you alter some of the compressor settings in the menu?
Nice done. If you may ever try to buy an older Roland MC 505 someone can be surprised how well they can communicate and choose an sax instrument on the MC 505 it's time to go nuts. Changing the beat style is done on the JDXI and synths changing does go one on the MC 505. I have not seen any videos about the Roland JDXI/Roland SP404A and other AIRA products as play combinations.
