My channel is mostly focused on trains and related subjects with content from Germany, Korea and the USA. My earliest videos are from when I lived in Berlin during the late '80s and early '90s. The rest are videos of opportunity from various places I've lived and visited. I hope to add more content as I have plenty of raw footage resting on my hard drive. Look for rail related video from Washington State, Texas and some N gauge model railroad stuff coming in the future. I hope you enjoy...
Interesting to see - again. I was in East Berlin just months later; on a visit to Berlin from Denmark, where we spent a day in East Berlin. I think it was in february 1990, before the reunification, but after the fall of the wall. I still remember the sound (and smell) of those 2-stroke engines on the Trabants. DDR probably couldn't be saved and/or reformed in any way, it was too far behind BRD and Krenz/Modrow were just custodians of already-doomed state. But it still gives me a little sting in the heart to see this.
IT Is train unit specially build fór the Vindobona express. It was coming alternative fór two vears with the DR, OBB And ČSD cars. Best od them was this unit train VT175 with the diesel 12 cylinder engines And hydrodynamic gear boxes into front cars And max. 160km/h/ 100mph visit. They trains are Still very popular. Another two diesel train unit was si OBB And ČSD it was coming with the two diesel cars M296, one buffet waggon and 3 gauche waggons between them.
Great footage! I lived in Germany in the late 1980s as a child and hope to revisit in the next couple years. I got to experience the Fall of the Berlin Wall in person...an experience I'll never forget! My family lived near Giessen and we just happened to be visiting Berlin when the Wall fell on Nov. 9th 1989, a very lucky coincidence. My Father had a camcorder at the time and recorded our experience at many of the same sites as your video!

@@wxman2003 Cool...why are people in RU-vid comments such tools when it's so easily verifiable by clicking on my profile? How do you explain video evidence: ru-vid.com/group/PLXM1gE9lbZhOAS-GOlLtENfneckHXLogY
DDR: Yet another example of an outstanding German Army (NVA) serving a criminal regime. The drug-riddled and ill- disciplined US Army, Europe of the 1970s can be thankful that they never had to face this small but highly professional force. Once again, Germany had managed to create a world-class army, despite the initial mistrust of the Soviet Union, which ultimately came to consider "their German Army" to be the finest and most politically reliable of their Warsaw Pact allies. These guys were true soldiers, and their fate after reunification was unkind.
Вот смотришь на ГДРовцев , вот она выправка и честь немецкой армии . А смотришь ФРГовцовцев .... позорище ...Толпа с оружием и музыкальными инструментами ...
Thank you for this post. Any plans to go back to Berlin to do a "Before and After" videos? I know of one guy that is heading back this August 2022 and will prayerfully that he makes it there and back safely to share his videos of his trip there. He served over there for 4 years, watched the dismantling of Checkpoint Charlie and everything.
Hi Yizu. For your interest, here is my video of a walking tour of the Berlin Wall in 2019. Thirty years after initially visiting the city, I still have my memories of a divided Berlin. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4URxXO4D-ck.html
W.O.W..... Checkpoint Charlie and the East Berlin "Highway" has changed SIGNIFICANTLY since "Back in the Days" when I was TDY to Templehof AB in mid 70's Actually, was able to go on a *R&R* tour into East Berlin. What an Experience I'll **never** Forget !!
I was living in W Berlin in 78 - for those of us who had cars with us and had non Berlin passports - it was worth the price of the visa and drive over checkpoint charlie just to fill up your car. You were always stopped for speeding no matter how slowly you drove, but as we paid in Dm (West ) cash we could always skip the long queues of the locals paying on east Marks. Note that residents of W berlin were forbidden to go to the east sector. People of the rest of W germany could go there.
On Reddit and Quora I've been reading comments from a lot of people who claim they lived in the GDR, and life was oh so much better because the state provided them with education and medical care. Those 2 things are important, but is living in a surveillance state really worth that?
Hi Ruben. I visited Berlin in '88 and '89. Very true about the excitement with the dismantling of the Wall. Here are my perspectives when revisiting Berlin in 2019. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4URxXO4D-ck.html
Guck dir alleine mal diesen Helm an - peinlich. Also nix gegen die NVA - konnte die ja auch nichts für, war ja eh alles fremdbestimmt. Russland hatte auch sicher kein Interesse daran, die Truppe "cool" ausehen zu lassen.
It's a beautiful looking city NO GRAFFITI! As an American if Freedom of Expeession means living and looking at that trash, pewtrid throw up garbage on public transportation, infrastructure and buildings. Fuck freedom
