In 4k. If the program needs not much cpu compute power ( not like mmorpg, civilization or etc), it works well. At least, it can confirms 60fps. I still enjoy this setting to use my umpc as living room 4090 gaming console.
I only have 2 4090's (one is connceted with my main desktop) So I can't test with other gpu. Well Umpc+eGPU shows already better than common gaming PC. but If we think about the price per value. It's middle of gaming notebook and gaming desktop. umpc price is almost same with highend mainboard+cpu+ram+storage device. so adding dGPU and oculink slot+PSU (~$150) is not a big price. and you can use PSU to real desktop if you change your settings. but Its best feature is not a price. You can play the game with iGPU(ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g_2k0gFY20Y.html). It's more portable than gaming notebook. and when it conneced with eGPU. It's powerful than gaming notebook. So Its feature is more similar to desktop. but you need think about next 2 things. 1. It's obviously has weak CPU than desktop. So some game (like division 2. You can find another game test - like Cyberpunk 2077 from my channel. The game test result is similar with common desktop ) shows worse performace than common PC. Well. It's not a big problem I think. at least If you change your mind and making real desktop, You can take the GPU to real desktop so It's not a big investment than gaming notebook. 2. UMPC (and notebooks) are lack of storage slots. Commonly It has 1 or 2 NVMe slot and SD Card slot. It cannot compared with desktop. and nowadays game requires lots of disk size so It's more matter than first things I think. If you'll use the umpc as only gaming. Well, One storage slot is maybe enough to use. But if you want to use that to something other, like creative things. It's obviously wrong choice to use.
Thank you, i really think to replace my setup with something like this but i don't need 4090 maybe 7900 xt could be enought to manage WQHD screen@@burning_tuna
@@gioriddi2982 I bought 4K monitors for main PC (5950x + 4090) but the benchmark result was out of my expectation. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a_j8O2KTwAE.html So.. yes. Oculink is not a big matter. obviously.
Great video, I came across it by chance. I have a Legion Go so it can only work via TB3 / USB 4.0. I think I'm already getting a big performance loss, right? With your 4090 for example
I think CPU won't make lots of bottleneck (but Still It couldn't show 4090's full horsepower). Of course, It''ll be better than 7840u. but In that case, Oculink 4x lane will be more problem.
@@burning_tuna I found a China 8X PCIE Oculink board but the problem is that most motherboards only support 4X on the M-2 slot. Furthermore, it is also very difficult to find an M2 key to Oculink adapter that can actually do 4X. I didn't find 8X with the M2 keys. Then you also have to make sure that the cables support the full bandwidth. I will expand this topic on my channel soon. But something else is simple and quite complex.
@technikchegger7228 mine is also 8x board but gpd win4 has 4x connector. Basically, Oculink is extender of pci slot, so lane modification is not so hard. Only physically 4 lanes is connected from 8 lane slots. But it shows already better result than desktop 4080 or mobile 4090, so I'm using umpc as 4k TV console and portable gaming machine.
Update: thanks again for your guide! here are a few things that I learned in the process: 1:17 the device ID is unique for every GPU chip. You can find out your device id through techpowerups database. the device id is part of the GPU BIOS. You can leave the device id to the default 0000, but then vulkan might use any graphics chip it finds. (i.e. CPU graphics instead of the discrete graphics card) You can set the custom value to prevent that from happening. 1:26: In version 2.3 of DXVK the apitraceMode is no longer a thing. the attribute was not listed in the default config and I did not have to insert it. 1:31 I frst tried to also do step 3. but then i wanted to play around with DXVK in other games such as Fallout 4 (also benefits a lot there). So i did not want to force the system variable to AW. AW recognised DXVK and ran Vulkan without the system variable. :) some extra info: i wanted to check the 1% and 0.1% lows with the riva tuner statistics server overlay. By default it will not show it, even if you enable it in afterburner. What you need to do is go to the RTSS Setup -> general -> 1) percentile buffer -> "ring" ; 2) enable benchmark mode. It takes a moment before valid data is displayed because, while the game loads, it may not put out a single frame -> 0 FPS. the game first needs to play for the minimum interval time. (of like 10 seconds) Summary: AW is optimized like 💩 1% lows around 43 FPS with 7700X + 7900 XTX. Kingdome Come Deliverance (also Cryengine) on the other hand puts out smooth 1% low 60FPS.
Enter BIOS by pressing Del keyboard from Boot Screen (GPD Logo) 6800u model : Advanced->AMD CBS->NBIO Common Options->GFX Configuration->UMA Frame Buffer Size 7840u model : Advanced->GFX Configuration -> UMA Frame Buffer Size (May that menu is depended with BIOS version. So It can be a bit different with other product)
Thank you for sharing your test data. My setup is similar to yours, Win4 + Oculink, and I'm currently using a 4070 GPU. I have a 5k monitor, and I'm wondering if it's necessary to upgrade to a 4080. There's hardly any comparison online regarding the performance loss ratio of Oculink + 4090 versus a desktop 4090 at 4k resolution. Could you provide some advice on this matter?
You can check many benchmark results from youtube. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0EYaMupOPJg.html 17:45~) And 4090 is powerful powerhorse. Almost CPUs cannot handle its 100% power even in 4K. Anyway. I think Max 110fps, Avr 90fps, Min 70fps is common 4090 system results with same settings (Ray tracing overdrive / 4K) - Gamers Nexus used 12700K overclocked. so It shows more 1% fps than common system. In fact. It already over 60fps so Not a big problem with its a bit low average fps (~7%) but As you can see. Its minimum FPS is slightly low. Because CPU bottleneck. (That's same reason why AMD iGPU CPU models(~G) are shows low 1% FPS with dGPU) but anyway It can hold over 40fps. So It's not a big problem in common situation. and It's already shows better results than decktop rtx 4080 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MQeXhpRgNx8.html) (Avr 66.62, Min 55.48 Max 81.33) So. I think 4090 is worth it. If you're using 4090 eGPU for under 4K system. CPU bottleneck is ridiculously high so 4070Ti is limitation of 7840u system. but If you're using that eGPU for over 4K output. Anyway It works well. If you're not a playing hard CPU depended game. like total war or etc.
I think its quite big difference actually, min frames which is most important improved by ~5%. With my 5800x 4090 I get 50.9 so it brings the min perf loss to ~18% Which makes the 4090 even as an egpu better then the next fastest card you can get. Also thanks for doing this... their isn't much info on oculinks perf on youtube/net in general.
Yes, Changing mode makes stable CPU Clock. So It affects minimum FPS. but Its minimum FPS is still not good because Too small CPU cache size (16MB). It seems It's limitation of this CPU (7840u). But anyway, This system worths than 4080 GPU or XG Mobile 4090. I think Oculink already hits Low power consumption series CPU limits. So No matter of bandwidth, It worths already. (But still doubt about intel H or HX series CPUs)
Could you redo this with the CPU fans not being on silent and run the cyberpunk test again. Also is your screen plugged into the gpu or the laptop.(it can reduce perf by 10-15% more if its the laptop) Also in theory Oculink SFF-8612 should allow a 8x 4.0 connection... but the Egpu dock has to support it and the cable needs to be good.
I'll do that test after today works end. TV was connected to 4090 directly. Though my Oculink dock has x8 port, my umpc has x4 port. So It connected as x4. (Half cutted cable)
@@burning_tuna Thanks, I am assuming you ran the test at 4k... I couldn't see. Just I can run the same test to compare(with my 4090). Thats good to know that 8x to 4x cable works for GPU's.
@@givemeanameman1 Of course It ran at 4K (you can see the result screen at the end of video) Like Original PCIe, It can be converted by cable (or port) length.
ROD has a few interesting spots that make the match much easier but they're not really MBT friendly. At 12:57 the plateau by the rock in the backbcan be climbed on and you can hit the tanks spawning at the fortress in their sides, for example.
Sure. It connected with pcie 4.0x4. You can check the device name from the benchmark result( at description) mainboard name. It is gpd win4(2023). Anyway, as the result. The bandwidth is not a big problem with 7840u. The most big bottleneck is cpu bottleneck.
Unfortunately, It's absolute battery size is small So, It couldn't last over 2 hours. I'm using WIN4 from metro while moving, and using also as for a working notebook so It's not a big problem in my case. but surely It's one of this device weakness. with ~15W setting, It can maintain its temperature under 62 celcious. with low speed fan profile. (from motion assistant settings) Nowadays. I'm using the WIN4 for grinding credits from Armored Core 6 to buy parts for preparing missions with same settings (15W). Although it's brand new 7840u devices are releasing nowadays. But still 6800u devices work as it intended.
I see, 2 hours would probably be good if I just farm simple quest and solo leveling then. I appreciate all the details that you shared, im thinking about getting either the win4 or rog ally just to play FFXIV on the go and i like the flip keyboard aspect of the win4.
@@MightyDraws If you're thinking a brand new device, not a used device, At now, WIn mini is best option I think. It has 7840u, and comfortable keyboard than WIN4. Check this out from indiegogo website. (www.indiegogo.com/projects/gpd-win-mini-7-inch-120hz-gaming-handheld-console#/) Of course It has enough spec to use daily quest or roulette. even I'm thinking play savage with WIN4 when I cannot use main PC.
Because I'm not crew of AW team. I have no idea. but I'm gussing because they haven't developed special operation with 4 chapters, only 1 mission implemented after that plague season. So.. It just pulled out from special operation queue. After 3 chapters are implemented, That'll be return I think.
could this work with NVIDIA 900 series? I am getting crap FPS even on low, while using a Tesla M40 (think of it as a GTX Titan X Maxwell). Same as a GTX 1070 laptop (no termal or power throttle), same low CPU and GPU usage on both systems
Screen size is not a big problem (you can test that by playing this video from your smartphone as fullscreen), It's almost same size with recent smartphone (6') More problem is grip feeling and weight balance. It depends lots with your hand size and holding position. Pressing button fast with holding the device can be difficult without another solution (like grip case or etc).
It's running on steam os. Basically Steam deck joypad is not recognized as X-input. It just recognized as steam controller so It's too hard to use from windows without any software modification as I know.
No, It's not : - No uses Real Time reflection - Shadow resolution : 1024 - Skill effects : Mine, party member only - uses LOD comparing with Maximum settings. but from 6' screen, It's fine. I adjusted game options for 15W settings.
