I could see a Mario cartoon doing this using 64 animation or doing what Prime actually did and used the early Nintendo systems animation kind of like how Prime used the Genesis models for the flashbacks
If i had a nickel for every time that a Nintendo game released in 1996 featured the titular protagonist participating against an enemy in a footrace, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. 🏁😠🆚😈🏁
