This channel is hosted by George, KF0CCI of Romeo Cat Computers. The purpose of this RU-vid channel is to archive video footage of passing trains (mostly in Brookings, SD) and other interesting railroad-related content.
The locomotive seen in the current profile picture of this channel is of RCP&E engine 3421 making its way east through Brookings, SD on January 30th, 2021. This can be seen in the very first video of this channel.
Very informative video except for the annoying music!!! What in the world makes you think people want to hear that!!! It takes away from the video. I turned it off only after watching it for a few minutes because I could not concentrate on what you were saying! Please, don’t ruin another video by adding that worthless music!!!!
I hope I'm not the only one who thinks EMD's old horsepower coding scheme was stupid (e.g., "S" for "six hundred", "N" for "nine hundred"). This creates ambiguities; for example, "S" could just as well have meant "seven hundred". And just as bad, you can't compare two horsepowers just by their relative position in the alphabet. Ugh.
Hey George, awesome video! Keep your eyes peeled this week. RCPE 3462, 3445 and 3471 have 10 year anniversary stickers on their long hoods now. One of those should be staying in Brookings for a bit from what I’ve been told.
Another excellent reference is the long out of publication Kalmbach book "Our GM Scrapbook", featuring articles from Trains magazine illustrating the development of EMD locomotives. In one section entitled "Cows, Calves, and Herds" there are multiple side by side photos of the various TR configurations.
Do you have Flickr page? or another way of sharing photos? I'm modelling AGR 3412 and would welcome some detail shots of it or anything you have. 3412 has some unique details (i.e. on the cab roof, different dynamic brake etc etc). Thanks Wayne
I do have my website, kf0cci.net which has the link to the Brookings Rail page on the side bar, but I haven't taken any pictures of AGR 3412 yet. If I remember to, I might take some next time I see it and put them on there. Other than that, It has made a few appearances in past monthly RCP&E videos.
@@brookingsrail Hi George, OK great. I've seen planty of your past videos on YT but have had a break lately from all my subscriptions for a month or so but will start to work through those I've misssed recently. Yes, if you get any good photos, of AGR 3412, please can you add them to your website, Thanks !
@@silicon212 actually sounds like an SD50 to me now that I’ve watched this several times. I found out these actually have the EMD 16-645F out of SD50s derated to 3000 hp.
Update: they’re on the west train at aurora, have a pickup then they’re heading back to Huron. There’s an empty ethanol going to aurora this afternoon with RCPE power, it’s coming out if Tracy.
@@brookingsrail8 engine westbound coming through in maybe an hour or so, Andrew is engineer. They’re at Elkton now hooking up to the rest of their train.
Not all of these series have the same exact horsepower ratings... The GP60 & SD60 series are 3,800 HP with the 710-G3A's.The standard cabbed SD70's were 4,000 HP but the SD70I's,SD70M's,SD70MAC's,and SD70ACE's are actually 4,300 HP and all units use 710-G3B's.The SD75I's & SD75M's are 4,500 HP with the 710-G3C's.Obviously there also was the SD9043MAC convertibles which used 710-G3B's. ATSF ordered 51 SD75M's but 25 of the units became apart of BNSF's roster because those weren't delivered before the merge.26 SD75I's are in the BNSF roster.Canadian National owns 173 SD75I's which were suppose to become SD75ACC rebuilds last year.ONRR only got 5 SD75I's and only have 4 units because one was totaled from a derailment.
Hey George, nice video! Figured I’d give you a heads up, Aurora turn is looking to run in the morning sometime, ETA Brookings in the 7-ish timeframe as of now, then back west an hour or two later from aurora. They ran a train east to Elkton and dropped the cars in the siding today, if I’d known they were doing that I would’ve let you know. Things have been pretty much 100% night time operations lately.
Thanks for the heads up! School was canceled today, so I had time to catch the movement, which occurred at 9:15. I have also notice the lack of daytime traffic over the last few months. This is why I haven't made an RCP&E video in a while. I don't think I caught a single train in January or February. Although there was a pair of CSX AC4400CWM's sitting at the Brookings terminal one January morning. I was on my way to school, so I didn't have time in investigate the matter, but I stopped to get a good look at them. Finally, this last week I have been lucky enough to catch two afternoon freights blowing through town. I will probably make a BARA video for Jan/Feb/Mar next week to combine what little footage I have collected. In other news, I noticed that two more G&W locomotives have been added to the list of RCP&E owned/operated engines on its railroadfan.com page. BPRR 2001 and MMRR 2057 are both considered to be out-of-service. I have a feeling these are just more part units to add to RCP&E's collection. I think I'll head to Huron in the next few weeks to investigate as soon as the weather clears up. Best wishes and happy train spotting!
@@brookingsraila loaded ethanol is going out of Valero this afternoon to Tracy using 4 RCPE SD40s. Crew is cabbing to aurora from Huron, should be there around 1300-ish to put their train together so mid-afternoon when they head out.
I acquired a house somewhat near train tracks about 3 months ago. I haven't been bothered by the 5-10 trains that pass each day, and I've seen trains stopped on the tracks for upwards of 3 days before moving along. But for the past 24 hours I've been hearing a strange noise on the distance - a kind of undulating pulsation sound. It last about 10 seconds, stops for about a minute, then another 10 seconds of the noise, silent for a minute - it's been like this non-stop and it's been forcing me crazy trying to figure out what it is. Thinking it might be a train stopped further down the canyon that I can't see, I've been googling train noises. Found this vid and the sound at 2:50 is exactly what I'm hearing. But it's 10 seconds on, a minute off, no -stop. What is it? Is that normal for that noise to sound in that pattern on an idling train?
@@CountryCrossingBuffalo Yup the initial “whoop” noise is the air compressor starting up, and the pulsating/thumping sound is the air compressor running and working its magic.
Sorry to be stupid about this but fake bonnets were Santa Fe units and it’s a patch job like in the early 2000s csx and ns had patch job contrail units
"As common as nickels and pennies" and then "Ooh a Canadian Penny", so guess you shall say AMERICAN nickels and pennies, you almost don't find Canadian coins here!
I think why their won't be any Widebodies on the RCP&E, the Huron shops need to be upgraded, it looks pretty outdated, plus seems to be a bit small, and I am talking about overhauls, and thus unless work is done at a different shop, until Huron gets upgraded, no widebodies.
What you refer to “h1 swoosh” is what most people refer to has “h4” and are almost exclusively painted onto yard and local power. The actual h1 is on the dash 9s ordered and delivered Immediately after the merger with the green and orange and are numbered in the 900s to 1000s. Great video in general however.
The BNSF rebuilt a few dozen of the GE B40-8w's and are painted in h4 and are equipped with remote control and are used in local service as well as mainline all over the BNSF system
