A collection of clips all things radio, from DX-ing, to radio milestones, and from great content to great music. All from radio stations around the world.
2021 was the trashiest year ever. My hero Sir Captain Tom Moore died, Prince Phillip (the Duke of Edinburgh) passed away and I had a tummy bug in October.
If I’ve missed something, someone plz update me but why didn’t we hear of Steve Wright’s funeral? Nothing. No footage, no stories and no tribute shows that others have enjoyed. An absolute legend that just seems to have been forgotten! 😢
“Might” change? Really Gold? I think you meant “will” change. They’re implying a sense of hope that regular programs return here after a certain amount of time, when instead a few days later, you hear static. Everyone is forced to change to FM at the least, so the choice of words is quite misleading.
Started listening to Steve 1981 on radio 1 right thru to his final show 30 September 2022 on Radio 2. I was 18 in 1981 and he was my go to Dj to brighten my day and got me thru short spells of unemployment in my youth his show was what I looked forward to in the Afternoon. I was lucky enough to see him on the Radio 1 Roadshow 1982 1st week in August Blackpool and then again October 1983 when Steve . Simon Bates and Fluff Freeman did a radio gig in Stewarton community centre Scotland . There has been a massive void left in Radio Broadcasting on the BBC since his passing, to quote Chris Evans Steve was to Afternoon Radio what Terry Wogan was to the Breakfast Show . I will miss his show every afternoon weekday for ever. Thanks for the music the jingles the sketches the characters most of all Steve thanks for the memories pure Radio Gold. God Bless you Mate
sorry to hear that Jonnie Walker died recently ( June 2024 ) listening to him on RU-vid reminds me of when i was young, rest peacefully Jonnie, and thank you for the memories
And UK continued its tradition in 2024 by receiving the only 0 points from public 😂😂 Spain did also abusmal as usual, but Germany at least did much better with the juries this year even if public vote ones again was abysmal. From big Eurovision backing/funding countries only France and Italy especially seems to be doing quite well for themselves although Italy is way more consisten than France in that regard
Steve had been removed from his afternoon show on BBC2. Steve Wright's show was perfect with his great dry wit. I listened to Steve on Radio 1 in the 80's and he always made his show for us. Steve died because he saw his studio no more. Once again the BBC is hard faced . They need to look at ways to bring DJ'S in to keep it going.
I miss Steve - His show was so good. Not like the presenters today who have NO ON AIR TALENT, Its all about giving money away. I found this show after listening to his theme tune which was a master piece, but this was a tribute version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWuZ03MT0GU.html - - - RIP Wrightie
I love how Steve's last Serious Jockin' record was Queen's Radio Gaga, so appropriate. RIP Steve, thanks for all the laughs over 40 years. See you again, some place...
What has gone on? BBC deciding what’s culturally good for us, except that 0% of the public agree. Though the whole public vote thing is highly suspect. I suggest that the vast majority of people who bother to vote are from the UK and therefore are excluded from voting for UK. Same thing happened in 2024. Awful song and gay soft porn dance routine added to the mix = nil point!😎
The BBC had been running him into the ground for years with dreadful music and no support. Typical Ken though, he tried his best and always put on a cheery face but he'd probably had enough. Ken Bruce, Terry Wogan & Steve Wright were Radio 2 and Radio 2 was them. When Ken Bruce left the life support was switched off and Radio 2 died.
GHR in my opinion has slowly become just another commercial radio station playing the same old box of songs. I find myself listening to Radio 2 again now
For many years when i was a bit of a recluse and had no job, hardly went out. I would wake up around midday and look forward to Steves show, it got me thru many days i can tell you. RIP Steve i only ever met you once and that was at the 1982 radio one roadshow in Rhyl when i was about 13. Thank you.
I was a field based engineer, driving my car to customer sites all over the country. Steve was always my afternoon company on those long, lonely drives . So many highlights, Ask Elvis, The Old Woman, Mr Angry, Dave Double-decks......................................Thank you Steve for the smiles and often out-loud laughs, your company was always much appreciated.
Steve Wright was a absolute legend. I listened to Steve from Radio 1 in the 80's and then Radio 2. Removing Steve from his afternoon show was pathetic. Scott Mills is not a patch on Steve. So much so i go to You Tube. For music. The only Radio 2 dj that was truly sad about Steve's passing was Gary Davis.
