Couple of observations. It's smaller than I thought it would be. I don't see really any seating or tables or ledges on the main floor. Did everyone just stand and hold their drinks? Where were the ashtrays? There was only one small bar in the whole club? All the drinks for the entire club were made from that one bar?
@@josefineenelidroos6444 the dancing and music.. It was totally diffrent then nightclubs today.. Once you got in you where equal with the celebs...no bouncers anywhere except at at the front entrance...have you seen the 2019 Documentary on 54?...its really good Very accurate .
DANKE!!!!!!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Yeah great Video you made, i just found it right now. I was lucky (and old enough) to be allowed entering the Studio in 1977 during a brithday trip from Germany to NYC. It's was just so amazing, something totally new, exhausting, totally free and nobody thought what's up tomorrow (sadly for some health). One of the greatest place i'd ever been and an experience never to be forgotten during my life
WISH IT WAS STILL HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'D DEFINITELY, BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND REST IN PEACE, TO ALL OF THOSE, THAT HELPED CREATE, THIS ADULT, WONDERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Abfahhhhrrrrttttt😎
I really appreciate you making that. I always wanted to know what people saw when they got luck enough to go thru the black smokey doors. Thank you very much! Feel like I've been there !!
Dear Mr. Lees, when Sirius/XM launched their Studio 54 Radio Channel, they did a one night only, reopen/reunion to promote it. I thought I remember it being said the sound system (courtesy of Richard Long, RIP) was never removed from the space, same with some of the lighting. Do you know if that's accurate as of these days? I know the Roundabout Theater company now occupies the space. Thank you!
Es war eine geile Zeit im Para, die ich swhr vermisse, schade, das es sowas bie wieder geben wird. Aber wer dort war, weiß wie dort gefeiert wurde, einfach toll
Certainly it could and in in some interests should be re-opened, the only serious problem you're going to run into is MAINTAINING the random themes every night/week, and paying/convincing "celebrities" to go there initially, (then back off paying once it takes on a life of it's own), because if you think you're going to open a club here spending pennies on props, drinks and atmosphere, you'll be standing in the unemployment line within a year as former owners (post Schrager and Rubell), have found out. As a former radio DJ, the music would be my second concern, certainly there are new "Disco" flavored songs being produced all the time, Passion Pit - "The Reeling", The Naked and Famous - "Punching in a Dream" or ANY Khruangbin song, and on and on, but sadly the musical pipeline nowadays is not like it was back then, with some admitting that they were Disco-ing everything back then and shoving it down people's throats, ( tv ads, cartoons, etc.) causing a slow death. That being said, Disco is without a doubt the "level ground" of music formats, bringing together an amalgam of races, sexes, creeds, ages, and so on. So if you think you're going to deviate from that and feature a constant format of Rhythm and Blues (R&B), Rap, Country or any other genera of music, it would be a huge mistake. As someone listening to (and studying) music since i was 3 (1977), I would feature today's Dance/Disco music daily, ushering in new waves of generations that can appreciate the music and the club itself, however, i'd designate ONE day per week (Saturday would be the choice), a "retro night" to reminisce and honor ONLY classic Dance/Disco. Obviously limiting ANYTHING that's desirable, only makes it that much more desirable as Steve and Ian brilliantly found out. (As well as the previous opera house owner who would also be selective, discriminate? those that would enter). I have the ideas and with the right partner(s) would certainly have the bulldog drive, determination, and business sense that both Ian and Steve possessed.....but on a Meat Cutter's salary....i should probably start with roller skating rinks, and build up from there! 😄
@@pekkaollila8505 People aren't the same? In what respects that they don't like to dance? or dance to Disco music? Aren't the same anymore is a vague statement. Perhaps you mean not the same about money, religion, family values, and so on....and in that case i'd agree with you, but to believe people don't any longer want that venue where they can go out and let loose and possibly mingle with famous people, etc...then i'm happy to say you couldn't be more incorrect. Especially nowadays with people being uptight and offended everywhere you look, dare i say this type of setting/venue would actually be MORE successful than the late 70's-early 80's - Only this time, not mismanaged!
@@DrummerAar0n please forgive me but I have to agree with the previous person things have changed so much so drastically in the past 40 years that it wouldn't work but yes I would like it to work but I don't think it would ever work ever again
