Love how those look, despite the flaws. Consider using them for a video on how to care for crest leather? All I've ever heard about it is, "It's harder/more complicated to care for..."
From maker to maker, there may be certain nuances to how the patinas are applied / what dyes are used they may affect how one ought to care for the shoes, though. I generally suggest just checking with the vendor for specific guidance. I might make a video in the future though to provide insight insofar as there may be general rules of care across all patina/crust shoes. I think it would be nice to exist out there for those searching for it. To be honest I wish shoemakers in general were more pronounced about it on their websites. I know there are people who ruin their beautiful patina shoes within a month of getting them because the shoemaker never gave any hint on their website that they need to be cared for differently.
They are overpriced when compared to any decent European shoe brand. Can't compare with Carlos Santos quality and finish not even in the same league. Last time I went to an Allen Edmonds store I was wearing some Carlos Santos Monks that I bough for around $200 from Herring, the Allen Edmonds employees were all over them 😅 Grantstone has a captoe that is several miles better than any Allen Edmonds for $100 less, basically an Alden when it comes to quality and construction. Allen Edmonds are good beater shoes though.
The 'rockiness' of the boots is actually more common than I would like in the industry. For example, if you check Oakstreet bootmakers (I love their loafers btw), most of theirs shoes don't sit flat on the ground. I note that they are a bootmaker, but still. I am definitely with you when you said that it is a 'big' issue. Maybe I am mentally unstable too.
You certainly could, though a good-quality resole will run generally $150 - $200. BS is $219 retail and often on sale for closer to $180. At that point, even if buying retail price, you may as well just get a brand new shoe.
I bought these boots many years ago, unfortunately Chelsea boots didn't mesh with my style and had to sell them. They were gorgeous shoes no doubt and I wish I could've pulled them off.
You can wax on about this brand all that you want, but they do ship shoes with major problems. Then, one has the problem of having to wait months for them to "re-craft" the shoe. Example: I bought a pair and one shoe of the pair was constructed with dimpled leather just aft of the toe. That leather was 50% softer than the rest of the leather which made up the shoe. It was as though a crappier leather was used just in that one area of just one shoe.Another thing, they would not publish my less than glowing review. This was my second pair which I commissioned. The first pair was fine, but not a A+++ product. A solid B+ product.
Not too much into patina'd footwear in general, but those are actually quite nice. Thin-ass leather is a bummer, but fits with the nature of the boot itself.
Although I appreciate the artistry of elaborate patinas - and would not be opposed to putting one in a display case to look at every day - they are definitely a bit too flashy for my taste to wear. That's part of why I chose these chelseas - I like how subtle the coloration is.
Just as the shoe has toe spring there is such a thing as heel spring. This aids in the rolling action of walking. And yes the shoe tends to flatten out when standing. This is intentional, shoe makers do this for a reason. Unfortunately, I am not a shoe maker and don't know much more than that. Maybe ask one in the future if you get a chance. Nice review otherwise.
Was comparing Carlos Santos and Beckett Simonon Chelseas in my browser, so this is timely. Was checking out the 9978 rather than the 7902 though, but it seems like most of this would still be directly applicable. Appreciate the work you put into this. I will use your code and support when I pull the trigger!
Hello, I am the owner of the store, it’s the same line, just an aesthetically different model so it would be the same internally. Feel free to reach out for sizing!
Thanks for all the details. I just bought some products on Amazon thru your affiliated links to care for my TLB Mallorca Artista Monk Straps and dare I say it some old Allen Edmonds boots that need some TLC.
The boots are pretty, but the overall construction and construction details at that price are deal breakers for me. I think as you pointed out their patina is great, but nothing else really impressed me. The wooden shank and thin leather I can look past, but the fiberboard heel and the paper and fiberboard in the construction, along with the synthetic heel counter means the boots won't really hold up that well, especially if they're worn regularly for long periods or if they get a little wet. The holes you pointed out are not acceptable at all I think. I'm worried about the layer between the lining, since it is synthetic and will likely affect breathability. The departure from the more common design for the seam is interesting, but I'm not a fan since it makes the seam more visible when wearing. The bubbling from the lining is also past what I would say is standard. The leather insole is nice. My favorite Chelsea's are the Parkhurst Chelseas which I bought close to this price, but are now a bit more expensive (~400) and have limited availability. I'd love to see you check out Parkhurst - their lasts are beautiful!! The most recent one in particular is a favorite of mine - the stitchdown boots look like very nice and dressy boots to me. If you do get anything from them, tell Andrew I sent you haha. Also better (I think) and about a hundred dollars cheaper are Meermins - nice leathers, well constructed, whole cut, even closed channel soles! I would also say Bridlen would be preferable at this price point from what I've seen, but have never handled their Chelsea's. Grant Stone makes nice Chelsea's as well, but their last is a bit weird for that one.
Sorry, Meermin doesn't offer leather soles on their Chelseas, so the closed channel is not a valid point. That said, I still think they're the best <350 Chelsea, while being significantly below that mark.
@@rogerr.8507 I agree, I think Beckett Simonon is also nice, but I do think the Carlos Santos are better constructed. The Beckett Simonon Chelseas have a nice shape, but no leather insole, lesser quality upper leather, and they are Blake stitched (which probably isn't a huge deal unless you get in the rain). That said, the full leather heel stack is definitely preferable I think.
@@MisiuAcademy Yes, I'm not bothered about the wooden shank - sorry if that wasn't clear! The thin leather is also not a big deal - most of the strength is in the grain anyway. My complaints were mostly with other construction details.
Noble shoe , did an appalling hit peace on an old pair of Edward Green’s. Implying they were a waist of money . The shoes were definitely not new , and had been resoled . He should take the old video down . I contacted E G personally and they agreed with my observation .
@@MisiuAcademyThe box the shoes were in were a “ returns box “. They had been repaired . I emailed Mr Bunn personally . He is chief sales executive . He returned my email and he said you were deceitful . Don’t lie to Englishmen !
The only shoe review youtuber that literally makes me go to my closet, take out my own chelseas and look at them while you are reviewing it to check whether or not my chelsea boot has the same properties as the one you are looking at and appreciating every element of it. (My chelseas are from skolyx and I believe them to be very good quality but I dont know on the inside if they are that good). Also I really like yanko chukka boots and shoes in general, would love a review there.
Unfortunately it doesn’t have waist, but for the price is ok. Secondly breathability may suffer because of that plastic thing under the upper part of the shoe. But in whole these are great shoes. 🎉
