Tsinghua University Military Band (THUMB) is a symphonic band which is mainly composed of undergraduate and postgraduate in Tsinghua University. The band was founded in 1916, and was one of the oldest existing western bands in the Chinese Mainland. It was originally set to accompany the students' military drill, which explains why "military" is included in its name.The band is now a standard symphonic band but the name was remained to honor the history. Tsinghua University Military Band is one of the twelve student art groups in Tsinghua University.
