The problem is that people see these demonstrations, where the aim is to showcase the basic movements, and they think that aikido is ineffective. In a real situation, you can break an arm or other bones in so many ways with these techniques. Do people think this martial art was created just because someone wanted to jump around and roll on the ground? It can be very effective, but it’s best when combined with other martial arts. But I can understand that the Steven Seagal movies are humorous, where he gets attacked by three people with axes and knives, and the next moment they’re flying out the window, making Aikido a subject of mockery, unfortunately.
