Like the other European liberal empires, the French analysed and understood the cultural problems of the foreign peoples that they administered. The fact that the officer corps of the Southern Vietnamese army practiced authoritarianism, factionalism and corruption demonstrates that the French were right in not heeding Théophile Pennequin’s advice to create a Vietnamese national army. European imperialism is far more nuanced than most people realise.
Je suis restée 1 mois en juin 1984 ont revenait de manœuvre 2 mois auparavant il y a eu la mort d un adjudant français c'etait vraiment top Super souvenirs
Your information is wrong. Houthis managed to hit several Emirati Leclerc with RPG7 or antitank mines and the tank crew never died, except one fatality. The armour did its work.
@@Nettempereur 😂 I served in 2014 and in the legion cameras aren't very welcome at least in my regiment and back then was different times not like today where everyone is walking around recording 😕, I have pictures!! But we were more concerned about not getting slaughtered then recording 😕😬
Of course, I can understand that. I do have footages from the Legion in Afghanistan but I have only few of Serval and Barkhane, either conventional or Legion (beyond official footage released by French military).
@@Nettempereur yeah footage of the legion in actual combat us very hard to come by my friend!!! We were always told to avoid press and cameras at ALL costs
think of the British units that had to fight to the end at Dunkirk to make it possible for 150,000 French soldiers to escape. These troops decided they wanted to return via Calais in order to surrender. The brave Kieffer Commando company of 4 Commando were part of the few who decided to continue the fight against the Nazis.
35,000 French troops defended Dunkirk to the end and were eventually captured. I don't see how British troops could break the encirclement of Dunkirk to go to Calais which had already surrendered on May 26, as the battle of Dunkirk just started (May 26 - June 4). I will need you to be more specific please, and please mind chronology in your explanations.
@Nettempereur Exactly. They had to fight on, until the 100,000 UK troops plus 150, 000 French could be saved. The majority of French were returned to Calais. Calais was also held to the end by UK troops after the return of French troops via Calais. The UK 51st Division fought on whilst the French surrendered.
Dynamo operation allowed to save 198,000 British troops, 123,000 French troops and 16,800 Belgian troops). I don't know where you found 100k UK and 150k French figures, these are incorrect. I don't understand how you imply that Allied troops could go back and forth from Calais to Dunkirk as both cities were encircled. The 51st (Highland) Division did not fight in the Dunkirk Pocket. After Dynamo, it defended the Somme river and then Normandy (in 1940 I mean) alongside the French and they evacuated most of their men from the little harbour of Saint Valery-en-Caux. Some French and British stayed till the end and were forced to surrender (together), including Major-General Fortune (one of the most senior British officers to be taken prisoner in the war). Please check before you answer next. Anyone trolling here is systematically banned and his/her comments are deleted. Take care.
75th Ranger Regiment C company 1st battalion here… Afghanistan was one giant shit show much harder than Iraq and the same as Arica but the French special forces we worked with were actually pretty solid.
They still lost because they didn't want their beautiful cities to be destroyed with all the monuments they stole. They didn't really care about the war.
Before watching this documentary, I only knew of the French Commando at Ouistreham in the movie ‘The Longest Day’. Thank you for posting this film. Respect from the America.
I fought in Afghanistan alongside the French army, and I can tell you that they are great fighters and they have an effective army... the Taliban greatly feared the French army, and the foreign legion and French special forces... I'm not saying that because my wife is French and my children are French-American, I really mean it. They have a very well-trained and professional army, endowed with formidable tactical efficiency. if the French are deployed in Ukraine, the Russians will quickly understand that they are real fighters... the Russians are numerous but do not have 10% of the operational efficiency of the French army, and of Western technology. respect to our French allies, an American Marines USMC...🇺🇲🇫🇷
From Taliban to Taliban , 20 years fights of America and NATO for what? You killed thousands of your soldiers to fight terrorism but you submit back everything for your enemy. Why?
Because they are cowards like their ancestors, they cannot confront the treacherous Muslims and the creation of the colonialist cowards in the lands of Islam.
Enemy says they will fight for us now. That's why. Did you not look into it past the FACT that they are leaving? The Taliban said they will keep ISIS out and stop terrorist stuff like 9/11. The Taliban didn't win they merely excepted the job LOL.
Strength comes and goes. In WW1, American troops in 1917 were trained and equipped by French soldiers. Nowadays, French troops are following NATO combat procedures which are mostly US concepts. There is never "never" in History. France has existed for 1,500 years, we have experienced being the top player several times, we have also experienced disaster several times. We are still here.
