Nickel or gold electroplating would have taken this nice ring over the top, it would present better and not cause the finger to turn green. It would be great to see you do that and show us the results.
Cool idea... But now some tweaker is gonna try sneaking into your house at 3:24am and try going at your wrist with bolt cutters while you sleep instead of your roof.... 😅😂
A fabulous ring! Makes me want to attempt to make one for my extra large fingers (Z +3). I think I’ll price up the equipment, as the supply of copper wire isn’t a problem, as my son is an electrician.
When I was a child living in a small Colorado mountain town, my Mom worked for Mountain Bell. When the linemen would work in the office on the switches, they would leave copper wire snippings on the floor which I loved to turn in to jewelry. A bit more rudimentary than this though. Ha.
Not sure how many folks remember "Ma" Bell, but my father was one of those techs. I always had plenty of cable, wire and so many other interesting things to keep my imagination and ingenuity occupied. I think my Dad really knew a thing or two about raising children properly.
Well... this is Fu*king epic! I wire up power substation houses for a living... I think I'll be saving my wire cut offs to play with in my shop from now on!! 😛
It’s called annealing - heating the copper with a torch and slow cooling softens the copper. The process can be repeated. This allows the material to be worked more easily. He then quenches the ring to harden it.
I was just planning to do this this afternoon. I use twisted copper circuit box ground wire from Menards for starting material. No need to strip off insulation or draw out and cheaper than ordering from Parawire.
