My name is Bronwyn, and I’m a tarot and oracle enthusiast (tarot is my real love, though!). My plan for this channel is to film flip-throughs for every deck in my collection, and if anyone wants to join me on the ride, welcome to Tarot Fever!!!
Yeah I like the back of the Original but the face coloring of the 1909. The 1909 looks slightly more slender than the original. It's very subtle but the 1909 is more slim. Toss up for me too. I think it'd get the original just for the back and it based on the original but the 1909 is tempting as it does have nicer coloring and looks a little more cleaned up. I got my first deck and I liked the updated clean look it has and the back is nice too but they're very plastic and I want some nice linen ones.
My all time favorite is a Universal deck that I trimmed. Really connect to the more blended colors instead of the harsh facial outlines. I like Radiant but it looks a little more cartoony to me. I also like the PCS signature because she deserves her credit and trimming removes the ugly US Games logo.
I love this deck!! The only thing I wish I could change would be the borders. The artwork is so pretty and intricate, I wish the picture went all the way to the edge. Trimmed is very small. Love love this deck
Thank you so much for the video…. I love the smith Waite centennial deck. I have posted a centennial review on my channel as well. I have enjoyed your video very much so I have subscribed to your channel to be able to watch more often! 😊
Thanks for the flip through/review Tarot Fever. They're similar to Rider Waite, but have some unique and very expressive depictions. Also, some of the deck has dark undertones which give a deeper meaning in a reading. Thanks, I've subscribed.👍🃏🤗
Based on the scans available online Tarot Original 1909 looks like Pam B or C. Definitely not like 1909 or 1910. The US Games Centennial does look like Pam 1909 or 1910. Some of the images are also stretched at the bottom or top.
I'm beginning learning Tarot. I bought the radiant deck in smaller size in a tin. It wasn't my first choice tarot deck but obviously I need the original imagery to learn. I am conflicted. Maybe someday I will get the original rw deck to appreciate the original artwork of PCS. I would have liked it if the radiant deck had at least kept the original lettering. But at the same time I have quite modern tastes and like bright colours. I guess it's more important to decide what you connect with.
Really helpful comparison, thank you! Like you, I prefer the Universal to the Radiant. I have both the original RWS, the colors of which are kind of faded, and the standard RWS in which the colors were redone later but are still more muted than either the Universal or Radiant RWS. I'm considering buying the Universal.
Thanks for this! I really like the looks of the 1909 one. I used to have the Original and I liked it for the most part, but 1909 just looks nicer to me
Thank you for being so thorough with the guidebook portion of your review. So many reviews just flip through it quickly with their thumb and that's it. It was really helpful in my decision to buy this deck. 😊
They seem less glossy & a little less green. The USGames is much warmer colored for sure, I find the 1909 is easier on my old eyes no matter what the lighting situation is.
I love this thank you! I’ve had the universal and decluttered it in favour of a cheaper alternative without the copyright, plus I also own the smith-waite borderless so I didn’t need them all, but I do regret not owning one of these anymore now 😢
As an artist myself, removing the PCS signature is sacrilege. I mean PCS went through enough BS to just get recognized as the original artist because she was a woman, and removing her tiny contribution from each card just feels like adding insult to injury. Roberts knew what she was doing. She could have covered it up too or replaced it with her own, but she did the right thing instead. I am so glad I have the Universal deck, both standard and mini because I like the art style so much.
Thank you for the direct comparison. I had to replace both my my Golden Tarot deck and Touchstone deck recently (Sept., 2023). I am not sure what happened, but lost my entire collection unless there a sweater box hiding somewhere. I am rebuilding essential parts of it. Anyhow, the Golden Tarot card stock has apparently changed! It is more of a silky matte now, not glossy at all, where you can see the interwoven grain showing like a set of playing cards. The feel is very, very slick, but the images are very dulled when using because of the way the light scatters off of the matte surface and the crosshatched fiber lines on the surface. oh why, oh why US games? If you have less light or light from a steep angle it looks more vivid, but not using light from directly above. I also replaced the Touchstone, and it seems the same card stock as before and looks like yours. - perhaps I received an older printing.
After watching this walk through it truly is a beautiful deck. I’ve just sold my Kickstarter. As I didn’t want to wreck it. I’m thinking of buying the mass market to use it and not worry if it ruins.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have the akashic version but never realized the classic was so different in some of the imagery. Definitely on my wishlist now ✨️🖤
Thank you for comparing these two side by side! Very useful! What I noticed was that radiant had name of suits on every card while the universal one does not, and only has the name on the mayor arcana and Paige, knight, queen and king. I know it is quite easy to see what suit it is on the card, I guess it is even better to make us use our brain more instead of just seeing it written😀 but somehow having it written seems easier🙈🙃
Thank you ♥️ I'm gonna order this one. Very soft energy and colours. The guilding on the sides are beautiful. Love the rose petal feel on tarot - and oracle cards. Blessings 🙏
Thank you for this video! I've been trying to decide between Soul Cats and OAT and it was very helpful to see each card side by side like this. Still a very hard decision because they are both amazing, but very much appreciated!
