Welcome to The Historian's Craft!

Here on this channel, we will be covering all manner of historical events and phemonena, with a strong emphasis on Late Antiquity, although since my academic specialty is Modern Japan, we'll be taking a look at that subject heavily as well.

6,500 and growing! Let's keep it up!

One of my coworkers is really smart, and yet he's very prone to believing that if there isn't a term for something in another language then the people who speak that language can't perceive it. Even after it's explained to him why that's not correct, he doesn't buy it.

The chronology of these regions, in my view, is still in a flux. Astronomical data (which actually can be more reliable than genetic, linguistic and carbon dating) so far, suggests that people who called themselves Aryan and spoke Rig Vedic Sanskrit existed in the Indian subcontinent during 6000 BC. The dating of different kingdoms, using Alexander's knocking on th doors of Western India has been used as a sheet anchor for history of the region. Evidence is coming out that there are errors in this approach. So, dating of Mitanni, Avestha, Rig Veda, etc., may need to re-looked. Suffice to say, we need to be very careful with the chronology in all these regions.

As an Indonesian I often find a lot of conspiracy theory that try to make our country the center of it which in turn inflate our nationalistic pride. I honestly don't like it cause it makes Indonesian really dumb when those wild theory starting to be accepted as fact. As a side note. You should look into the "Hitler died in Garut" conspiracy theory. Its wacky as hell 🤣

The works of the great poet, Homer, are filled with words that not only survive in Albanian but continue to be used. From Homer, you can get not only words but also phrases that possess all the signs of a typical Albanian expression. If someone were to interpret Homer from the Albanian language perspective, much light would be shed on the works of that famous poet. Between Homeric and Albanian sentences, there is a striking resemblance in expression, phraseology, and sentence structure. A study of this nature would help interpret Homer, since the Albanian language is older than that of Greece (Science Magazine 2023), much can be learned about the influence of this [Albanian] on Homeric and later Greek. Title: Unconquerable Albania Author : Christ Anton Lepon Publisher: Chicago, Albanian Liberation Committee, 1944 Zeus was a Pelasgian, not a Helen. After Illyad the language of Gods was Gheg - North Albanian Dialect. (Herodotus)

Pharaoh Rameses 2nd fought the "Sea People's" early in his reign. There were attacks in the Western Delta. Pharaoh set a trap and waited. He surprised and defeated a coalition of Libyans& Sherden &1other tribe. He was so impressed by the Sea People he made them his palace/ personal guard! When he was planning to attack Kadesh? The Sea People helped devise his Strategy! Pharaoh divided his army into 4 divisions at their suggestions. And yes the Hati had Sea People allies on their side too! The people were mentioned in the AMARNA LETTERS! Dating to the time of Amenhotep 3rd,Akenaten, Tutankamen, Aiy,& Horemheb!

It’s such a sham, I mean shame, that so many people are taught that the Earth is only 6,000 years old. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

You leave out Indo European elements. The war is epic, manifested in wars against Troy, but also recalling more ancient battles on the Steppe or in the Balkans long before the Trojan War. The oral tradition must be thousands of years old, not hundreds, because of cognates in other Indo European languages, undying fame, Nestor-one of the horse twins, or Helen, daughter of the Sun abducted to the East - the mountains of Tajikistan. The chariot used as a battle taxi was not Bronze age, but maybe not just iron age either, but rather going back to the war weapon - the wagon - from the Steppe. That would be interesting to check linguistically in Sanskrit and other Indo European traditions. So, the Trojan War elements and the Iron Age elements are accreted into the long, ancient, bardic tale of a muster of men who must be assembled from competing families to recover an abducted woman or other treasure from the East.

Its the where is God part of Theodoric taking over that weirds Me out. BUT I guess Odoacer had lost a few battles beforehand. Though he was more like the Romans and seemed like he wasn't taxing Rome SO you would think they would somehow stand up for Odoacer. Like the West could have offered more support against Theodoric who was really acting for the east. BUT no Theodoric took it AND I guess Odoacer had no bones.

The Barbary Lion (South Mediterranean lion) was not close to the Asiatic one. Maybe the one that existed in Bronze Age Greece was, but not the one in North Africa. It was a separate race of lions (maybe even a separate species) and it was larger, larger than the Subsaharan one and of course much larger than the Asiatic one. There are stories in Morocco about how it could decapitate a man with a single blow with his leg. It was a magnificent beast, but also very dangerous, hence hunted down to extinction. Note that the ancient Greek lion was extinct already by the end of the Bronze Age as it was hunted out of existence.

It seems we still endure in a modern day western culture of child sacrifice, with 73 million babies in the last 55 years cut to death from their mother's wombs in an unspoken sacrifice for perceived benefits updated in modern jargon but equally horrific as in ancient times, the killing has gone up exponentially but humanity feels more comfortable that it's carried out in uniformity with a smile.

Idk why it's so hard for people to see that they came from Sweden/Gotland. Language is the easiest way to identify it. Why would they speak a gothic/gutnish language if they weren't from there? Nobody migrated from Germany to the north. It always happened the other way round. The north made for great warriors, but the land isn't as good. They would grow their tribe and leave for somewhere south like everyone else. If they came from elsewhere, that would be the language they spoke.
