Aside from protecting the barrel this is useful b/c it adds 4 oz of balanced weight to the bat and still allows the player to hit with the bat. So, it's a training tool as well. Take BP with your own bat and the extra weight. Swing in the game with a bat 4 oz lighter with increase bat speed (over time)
Just got mine today I’ll have to try it with my metal bat tomorrow it was a little loose on my wooden Rawlings bat but I’m sure it’ll work ok with my Omaha
Just to clarify, in case players are watching. The barrel should not be behind your head. If you notice when the instructor is actually taking a swing, if you pause right as his foot hits the ground the knob is at the catchers feet and the barrel is over his head. This allows a player to get the barrel into the ball path as soon as possible. If your barrel is behind you head, the back side will collapse, you will bar out, and go around the baseball. I understood what the instructor meant but when he was demonstrating the launch position at the beginning his barrel was behind his head, and then did it the right way when he actually hit the ball.
So you want to protect it for what? This is that kid on my team who always shows up with a gucci ball bag and just sits out in right feild doing nothing but playing with dragon flys
