Excellent breakdown LK. You catch a lot of stuff I miss on first listen. (I might just need a better headset). But I mostly agree on the ranking. HEYA is just about as perfectly crafted a pop tune as anyone could dream up, and the mv brings the point home. Accendio? Same. Well put together tune and the mv is weird and engrossing. Their “magic girl” mvs are the most fun, and this one comes with villainess doppelgängers. What’s not to like? Blue Heart and Reset didn’t capture me at first but got stuck in my ear just the same and now I have to like them. Ice Queen is “son of Hypnosis” to my ear. (That’s a good thing). WOW is the most conventional, still really good. 4G K-pop may be the most creative, but it still might not be big enough to hold IVE. They come with an edge and a POV and their best tunes, to my mind, have a biting taste of commentary directed at critics and haters. And they took that to the mountain top. They’re still young, they have the tools, and I await their next move. Love these girls.❤ signed …. Uncle Dive.
i'm glad you enjoyed my reaction! i truly think ive are carving their own path in the kpop space right now and it's so exciting to see and watch. while i try to slow down and enjoy the wonderful music they just came out with i'm also so eager to see what they have in store next 🥰
Omg you foreshadowing both concepts in Accendio mv lol Here's Wonyoung's commentary on Blue Heart from their Nylon interview they did pre-comeback: - It was inspired by her “work in this industry,” she says, seemingly alluding to the hyperscrutiny idols, specifically female idols, experience from the media and netizens. “People in the world [are] very aggressive to us,” she says. “So some girls choose an icy blue heart more than a warm red heart so you can be strong.” - So it's like putting a cold front to protect oneself, hence choosing a "blue heart" instead of "red". The lyrics have such depth and play with words. Few dives on twitter did an analysis on lyrics and they pointed out how lyrics from last verse(?the last rap ones) are actually so intricate and based on metaphors, and also to get a full meaning you would need to translate it back in forth. Overall the lyrics are beautiful 🥺
Here's the more fully explained analysis on that part: Original lyrics: 들통날 걸 *red lie* 못 피할 걸 *red line* Don't you, don't you realize? 새빨간 저 말들은 하여간 저 멀리로 다시 태어나는 나야 Eng translation: You'll get exposed, *red lie* You can't escape it, *red line* Don't you, don't you realize? Those bright red words Will disappear into the distance I'm being reborn *Red Lie* = in Korean, *an outrageous and obvious lie* is called a 새빨간 거짓말 "bright red lie" same as the Japanese term 真っ赤なうそ, makkana uso. *Red Line* = a red line or stamp was placed on family registers during the Japanese colonial period to identify and monitor so-called Bulyeongseonin who were at risk of causing social chaos. *A criminal record* . This could also mean someone had died. 새빨간 저 말들은 하여간 저 멀리로 다시 태어나는 나야 *=* "Those obvious lies are getting farther away from who I really am. The "me" who is being reborn. (people who are "killing" her true self by creating a false persona of hers with obvious lies)" cr @aidollze on twt
Thank you for the reaction! 💕 I love how much you analyze songs and mvs, your reactions are always so enjoyable to watch <3 Heya mv is so stunning and Accendio mv is so much fun to watch, that comeback(both tts and album) and era overall is my favorite for sure!! Also Heya now is my favorite tt too 🤭
Oh, about the Heya mv!! Here's my little kinda "explanation" on concept of the mv. English is my third language, so I apologize for any mistakes. The whole HEYA mv and song are based/inspired on a Korean folktale "The Tiger, The Moon and The Sun" or more specifically it's an reinterpretation of that tale going more in a direction of "a tiger that love the sun". So girls are represented as tigers that want to "swallow, bite, catch" the sun. Hence the mv looking traditional, lyrics about catching the sun, visuals of them "capturing" the sun, and tigers(tiger is Korea's national animal 🐯). You can even see near the end of mv a shot with Leeseo and her mouth is shining as to say that they did catch the sun! Also fun fact: in the beginning of the mv Yujin and Rei are kinda like "smoking", it's actually a reference to how some korean folktales starts with "back when tigers used to smoke" an equal of "once upon a time".
Actually someone have pointed out that Accendio MV might be the reinterpretation of korean folktale "The Mouse that Ate Fingernails" where the mice ate the man's fingernails and stole his shadow and life! And we can see "dark ive" turn into mices/mouses at the end 👀
This is the one album I can say has no filler. All enticing and clever and full of surprises. The songs that don't grab me at first are the ones that get stuck in my head until I have to submit to loving them. What has impressed me most, having watched several reaction videos, is how everyone goes silent more or less, for "Shine With Me". That was my reaction too. I would love to hear Wonyoung talk about her inspiration. Was she singing to Dive, or IVE. Whichever, the sentiment is beautiful, the song soars and Yujin's key note on the last chorus takes my breath away everytime. I've listened to that song dozens of times and it never fails to get me tearing up. It's cultural magic.
Hearing you say the instrumental of Ring X Ring gives you feelings of danger and urgency made me so excited as a Billlie stan because it's supposed to! The lyrics are entirely showing that there IS something dangerous going on "they say there's no marks, is she dead" "they say there are marks, is it blood" in the beginning, the prechorus being a literal conversation going "its alright" "no its not okay" "will be fine" "you know its not". The chorus being "come find the missing" "you wait here" "i'm gonna save you". The post chorus of "where did she go". Literally the entire song is going saying there is danger, something is going on, they arent safe.
The skipping through songs is painfull, and queen of the party is a very fun and great in its simplicity, I'm sure you'd agree some the best songs are very simple
i’ve heard the title track but never checked out the rest of the album! i’m thinking about doing some more general requests like albums or specific songs after i have a chance to get my group marathon list shorter, so i’ll keep this in mind! :)
16:26 "i love love LOVE brass. that makes me so happy" i lol'd bc there's a whole brass section comin up just for ya. we have diff faves (apart from best ever) but i really love ur reactions bc of the way u notice & dive into the details/nuances of each song (for the chill kill album too). thanks.
There has been a mini album worth of music since their last one: 'BYOB (bring your own best friend)', 'DANG! (hocus pocus)', 'the soul savior ~ I don't need a superman', 'January 0th (a hope song)' and now 'DOMINO ~ butterfly effect'.
3:45 Good eye! 😁 4:25 I _love_ this! It's essentially just her speaking level, but it sounds _so_ good when she sings there! There are other songs where they make use of it, but it's not as easy to catch as when they focus on it here! 5:25 Siyoon, the bias... 🥰 6:05 I'm _loving_ the hand-choreo, it's beautiful! But there is a full choreo, which you can see in both a dance practice video, and the live showcase stage, both on Billlie's native YT channel (I do love that their Japanese content isn't a completely separate thing to their Korean)... 7:25 And even the way they worked the credits into the video is gorgeous! 7:45 This, of course, is where the real dance break kicks in... 11:20 Although, to be fair, Dang! was a Korean single, and this was a Japanese one, so they're only semi-related... 11:45 Four, of course, including the debut itself, plus you can sorta count the singles Snowy Night (which I think was just digital) and Patbingsu (which, yes, was technically a Yoon Jongshin release, _but...)_. I assume the idea, for now at least, is they just dropped the singles to keep doing stuff while Sua and Suhyeon are out of action. Hopefully they'll be back in time for a mini-album next time, likely with a Korean version of this... Did you see the Side-B Chat video where they talked about the Dang/BYOB comeback and how they dealt with being only five members? I'm guessing you did, but if not, it's a must-watch, and super-heartwarming... 🥰
This is one of the most earwomy song I have ever heard. I mean, don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved it from the start, but then I listened to it again and again and I just can't stop listening to it, i have become obsessed!!!!
And if pledis+hybe promote them better, f9 such a potential group. Can't understand why those company ignored them, I mean even the new one group got big support meanwhile f9 stuck out there with less support😌
