I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest. I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out. If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.
I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.
Please warn people about the BudapestGo App problems in the Metro. Even though you buy mobile tickets AND validate them, the App does not store a validation confirmation that is available off line. In the metro, there will be places where there is no internet or mobile connection available. These places are where the inspectors lurk and target tourists, they will fine you in cash on the spot or threaten to have you arrested. Then as soon as you get service, the App will display your proper validation, but there is no way to appeal or get a refund. It’s a total scam. So avoid the metro unless you buy and validate a paper ticket.
Bro If you dont have good information dont do these to the guys from the train station!!!! The guys actually SAVING you to be scammed FROM INTER CHANGE COMPANY AT THE KELETI STATION!!!! The guys that you showed up in the video as a “scammer” they change money there for like 30 years!! Even the police known them.. yes its illegally to change money on the street, but they give you aroung 360-370 per euro! It’s black market..And the official rate is 375-381 all the time! Sometimes goes higher.. as a hungarian I am changing with the Egiptians people as they work in this business for long time I never got scammed or get fake notes from them!!!
Great info. Liked and subscribed. Visiting this beautiful city Budapest in May at least for couple of weeks. Looking for safe, clean , budget friendly upscale hotels / apartments. Cheers 👍
Hi can anyone tell me are ALL THE COINS in Hungary actually coins like 50 cents the 20 coin is is it really a twenty Huf bill or 20 cents ? 10 cents and so on ? Or are the coins considered bills I had to learn them when I went to Germany actually very easy is the euro but is HUF any different AND is the 7 day pass for Unlimited rides on bus and subway? Thanks
The most pathetic, slowest, most complicated and worst service and even for your accommodation you will have to walk kilometers with your suitcases. Use a private airport transfer service in Budapest for just a little more money if you want to travel calmly, stress free and comfortably!
I enjoyed your video,I didn’t realize there were so many districts in Budapest-i was born in 1947 in Budapest I would like to know what district was in effect then, there was only two hospitals in Budapest at that time, any information would be helpful as I am trying to get my lost birth certificate to obtain my Hungarian passport, I live in the US. thank you for any information ❤
dont use euronet atms, they are really the worst thing ever !!! i always use ATM Fee Saver App, so i find atms with no or low fees for withdrawing money
Thank you! I am thrilled to learn that it's handicap accessible. My husband has a back problem so good to know there are different options than using lots of stairs. We'll be visiting soon!
I lived In BP for 3 years at the end of the 90's and had a fantastic lifestyle there. I worked out in Budaors and had a beautiful apartment just off Vaci Ut behind the Marriot Hotel - just by the Erzsebet Hid. We went out every night for dinner, even Cyrano Etterem was reasonably priced then. We often went to Gundels too when friends visited. Those were the days when you could have a great evening out on Ft2,500. Only thing that bugged us were the hookers along Vaci and the Romanian rouges along the Duna after dark.
All of these this happened to me, luckily only the hotel and restaurants caught me as I really didn't expect that. I left thinking that this left a bad taste in the mouth for an otherwise great destination
Thank you for your very insightful videos. I will be taking my son 16 years old next weekend and will be staying initially at Ensana Thermal Margaret island. We will be sauna and cold plunge but I was wondering if you could recommend a good Thai massage that doesn't break the budget. Don't want to go district V and get tourist tax. When I was last there I had a great stay but got stung alot with tourist taxs at hotels and restaurants. They have an English menu and a locals menu. I was paying Central London prices at restaurants recommended by the front desk at the Mercure on Vaci Utca. If you could please recommend a good massage I would be very appreciative
Thank you for the video. I have a question. I'm planning to visit Budapest with my son (13 y.o.) for a day. I want to travel by buying a ticket valid for 24 hours. Do I need to buy another ticket for my son or is one ticket (24 hours) valid for both of us? (This is how it happens in Vienna)
Thank you for sharing your video. It was very informative and as I am here in Budapest for five more nights, I am going to check out your markets as I’d love to cook and I like off the beaten track. So thank you again.
