The women’s garden dress and blouse by Frux Studio has been on my mind for some of the poplin I bought from Core Fabrics. The pattern was just released and I’m really excited to sew it up. I also bought a kit for the terrazzo dress out of black poplin for the fall. Thanks for sharing all your makes, Heather!
love your sewing room❤ just wondering since you use your serger for dressmaking if it's on the heavy duty part of the pile 😅 i'm considering that model but dunno because of the things I sew... like from pants to shirts or hoodies
I just made the A version of this in a cream linen and your step by step was SUCH a great addition to following the pattern. One change I'll make next time is using feather weight interfacing. I used lightweight and it still feels a little too stiff for me. I also made a few other changes- I made the belt loops MUCH bigger after seeing how small the pattern was. I like the chunky loops with the wide belt. I put the loops on the back of the jacket rather than the sides (again just personal preference), and I sewed down the front "flaps." I think the weight of the interfacing and fabric made them floppier and it was a sensory issue for me. Seeing your fabric and how it hangs was a super helpful comparison. Thanks again!!
I am so glad this was helpful!! I love these observations and notes, too. So many variations on how things can look with different fabrics and interfacings. Thank you for sharing your experience here! 💜🙏
I love your space!!! I like to come back to this video for inspiration and organizing ideas! I don't like cluttered spaces or display rooms for all unecessary stuff!
Lovely Cleo. Your finish is great. A tiny tip.... I clip a very small "v" into my front facing seam allowance. This accommodates the turn of cloth where I want the revere collars to turn smoothly. Your fabric is great and you are are very skilled. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration
@Cleo Williams Understanding a pattern is what's keeping me from not sewing. I used to sew and knit lots when my nan was here, it was how we connected and bonded. Nan taught me everything she knew. Unfortunately she passed, then my love for both of these hobbies got left in the dark. I got gifted a sewing machine in the prettiest pink colour. But I feel like starting again hurts, or just picking up where I left off seems to be the hard part. Reading my sewing patterns is what I struggle to get back into starting.🥺🩷🪡🧵
@cleow I'm so glad I was able to brighten your day! Keep on sewing, you are very skilled, indeed. I think you were wise to remove those gaping front pleats, your finished result is definitely more stylish and should stay in fashion because your fit is magic. Hugs Sallxxx
Hello. I always take a long sleeves buttoned shirt. Very practical over a t-shirt, a dress and a bathing suit. And you are so rights: linen fabric has wrinkles so we have to accept it and live with it! This is what I do. My summer wardrobe is all linen. Just found your channel and I love it. Have a good day. Elise
Hi I just found you.. your style makes me feel OK... I like stylish but casual...Thankyou... I'm off the day after tomorrow for a sewing retreat for a week..thanks again for the inspiration.
Thanks for that! I really want to try my hand at some seersucker pants! Wow! With a Masterpiece Theatre/Agatha Christie summer aristocratic taking a turn in the garden vibe? 🤣
Oh good question. It’s hard to say without seeing how it looks but one possible idea could be to move the button if possible, so the waistband overlaps a little more.
@@cleow i have done that for this version luckily but i want to make the adjustments on the paper so next time i dont make a mistake. Luckily i left extra fabric to the waistband. I can swnd you the photo on Instagram?
I can go months! Not sure exactly how often it worked out to be, but I bought a five pack of blades that lasted at least a couple of years! Thanks for your kind note! ✨💜
I just sewed my first pair of shorts and when I was putting in the waistband I did it backwards.I decided it was ok and I would just cut it. I cut a huge hold in my shorts and they just took me hours. My mom said to me that she did not want me to waste any of the fabric and I just did. I am sad and I hope this doesn’t make me want to quit. Thank you for raising my spirits with this video 🥲
This happens to all of us-you are not alone! ✨💜It’s one project, and the next time you make the shorts it will go better. Hang on to these. If you can’t wear them around the house, maybe you can save and use the fabric for something else later. Sending you lots of encouragement! ✨🙏
Great video! Maybe you said it, but what fabric is the Pomona? I'm seeking exactly this kind of pattern, but that would be very lightweight and breathable... That could be used as a pijama as well...
Yes great question! It is linen, ordered from fabrics-store.com. The Pomona pattern is great because it has two leg width options. I chose the widest leg shown here. It also has instructions to make shorts.
You’ve inspired me to get a piece of silk out of my stash and make a robe with it. I think too that french seams are worth the trouble when you have a much loved piece of fabric. Tfs
Instead of beautiful wall paper or paint, I line the walls around my sewing machine area with brown Kraft paper! I pin stuff on it, write notes and do math all over it! When it’s too marked up, I toss it, I just thumbtack a new strip up and start again! The Kraft paper is so cheap! I got the idea from Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gylenhall. They use it in their home and people write stuff on it when they visit!
