George is absolutely right. It's getting worse and worse. Movie industries including the Russian one only think about profits and don't want to invest money in risky projects exploiting the same templates for different movie genres globally. Sure the trend started in Hollywood. The approach to make films for entertainment and nothing else just kills cinema as a form of art. For me as a huge cinema lover it's a big loss. Nothing fresh and new is being filmed with few exceptions. I've been enjoying watching pre-code Hollywood and European classics, including the Soviet Russian and Polish films quite for a while. They have got beauty, meaning and true art in them.
Soviet Union gave the world of Cinema Sergei Eisenstein, Andrei Tarkovsky, and a lots and lots of great films with great artistic merit .. You disagree with the overt or subtle politics in some of those movies but you can't ignore the artistic quality and performances ..
USA: we are so free USA: *gets incredibly uncomfortable and feels an urge to retaliate as soon as they hear something they aren't familiar with* I've never been in a more cultish culture. Even the Japanese can listen to people who actively hate their country (not just criticisms) and still learn something from them. In old style authoritarian systems, simply don't attack the government and you always know who the enemy is. In neoliberalist systems like USA, you never know who the enemy is (all seem like isolated events, no relation) and you almost cannot fathom correctly who or what is actually the enemy. Keep choking on the kool-aid.
brooo tää on legit mun uus lempi biisi. kaikki punikki biisit on joko vitun masentavii tai tosi vakavii, mut tää on vaa nuarua ja iloa KAIKKIEN MAIDEN PROLETAARIT LIITTYKÄÄ YHTEEN!
Being born in USSR and firmly believing that it was anti-human nature state, I can fully attest that creative side being devoit of commercial considerations can produce masterpieces of a routine basis
The problem in the West now is you cannot make a film unless it meets its diversity quota and ticks all the woke boxes. Why so many many movies bomb. The majority of public don’t want to pay money to see those movies. They want to be entertained. In regards to Soviet era films. Sure some good and a couple of them were gems. But most were not interesting.
It's not the American film industry that just sucks, it's everything that sucks. Everything is owned by a shitty bank or corporation and they destroy everything, totally soulless. Universities, Insurance Companies, Food Industry, Auto Industry, Retail Industry, Electronic Consumer Industry, Major Sports Leagues, and on and on. Even a small company is a piece of shit. They don't pay a decent living wage but those at the top certainly pay themselves well!
I mean the USSR basically created the montage in the 20s and had a significant impact on cinema throughout its existence so it only makes sense that George would bring it up.
Same with the P.R.Chinese art community. Their concert sets are generally much more creative and complex than those in the West and thus it would almost certainly trashed in the US as it would not be profitable under a Capitalist system.
EXCELLENT point George makes on the actual FREEDOM Soviet directors had. Go check out the MOSFILM channel here on YT. All HD xfers with English subtitles. They have started releasing Spanish subs too. Incredible film history that the USSR actually had. If you don't know where to start, try 'IVAN'S CHILDHOOD' and make sure to watch "COME AND SEE"
What hurts my heart, as someone who suffered under soviet authoritarianism: They got rid of communism, but kept the dictatorial authoritarianism. The complete wrong way around. We needed democratic communism, we got authoritarian capitalism. Glasnost really went ass up.
0:48 American exceptionalism dictates that we not only avoid criticizing, but lean into the zeal of your nation and its might! Bay got to make a full spectrum of military propaganda, from selling kids toys to leaning into the hype of Hil's email oopsie, all while making bank.
ei nationalismille, kyllä valtiovallan keskittymisen estämiselle sekä yläpuolelta sekä alapuolelta. Ei vallan keskittymiselle! EU- on hyvä jos ei lähde federaatioksi eikä liittovaltioksi.
And Lucas is absolutely right. Taking into account today's realities, when aggressive political tendencies prevail in Anglo-Saxon cinema. In addition, there is a large-scale dominance of specifically commercial cinema, to the detriment of the creative potential of directors.
So disgusting when these disengenuous, lying idiots constantly praise dictatorial, oppresive countries like China and Russia yet you'll never actually see them move to those countries because they know damn well that they have it good right here!
Complimenting a country doesn't mean you want to live there, jackass. The funny thing is, you'll only say this about countries you don't like. If someone complimented Japan, you'd just accept it for what it is, you wouldn't expect them to live in Japan.
It's simple as this, why should I give you money to make film if you criticize me? In the Soviet, me is the government. In the US, me is the corporations. But I'd like to see a US movie about the atrocities it's causing in Palestine being out this summer
George should get Spirit of the Whills made in China, completely disregarding IP laws in America. Then maybe defect to China, and build Skywalker Ranch 2.0 in ShenZen, and become a titan of Chinese cinema. He could produce all the scripts he's kept privately for decades.

Pekka Aarnio, Monna Kamu Martti Launis Sinikka Sokka. Kuinka valtava määrä sydämellä tehtyä työtä mahtavan Neuvostoliiton auttamiseksi ja pienen Suomen tuhoamiseksi. Hienoja ihmisiä, pystypäin ja ylpeänä vieläkin eteenpäin…
usa movies-film what ever want soviet movies, strict restriction, movies have to have no nudity,no gays, movie has to show love to communist party.movies are controlled by the government, mostly are dialogs thats you need to understand
But still the Soviet the films were very good, with a brilliant wagering the films were very good, with brilliant acting, and the so-called "propaganda" was not there, and if it was, it would be so Invisible that it must be sought For hours
@@vlad4kaofficial the acting was ok,we that lives in the ussr knew about these movies but thery were regulated and boring, most of use were gettin bootleg copies of usa movies which were much more popular that ussr movies
Honestly it's kinda worse than what he was describing, because you need so badly to make a hit to even break even on a lot of blockbuster type films you need both the mass appeal he's talking about AND to be okayed by the Chinese Communist Party to get access to their market. So it's like the worst of both worlds. Since a lot of them could make half a billion dollars and lose money they have no choice.
Russia dont made films😂 dude all the time on russian tv, they repeat old 70 century films and cartoons to kids, not of propaganda but for education, usa cartoons are violent without any knowledge, soviet cartoons got morales
He quite literally says "back when Russia was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics", he couldn't be more explicit about the fact that he's talking about Soviet film industry, not contemporary Russian film industry.
@@Srijit1946 yes exactly, previous soviet countries citizens are super respectful and friendly comparing to otheres state, look how clean eastern roads are, look at how dirty are poeples in west
