So here's what's weird. At this point in time, this video has almost 6K views... but No one is subbing. What did I do wrong? Or do i just really suck and don't know it. Good thing I'm not doing these to get famous or make money.

How long did you let the metal coin cool inside the molding before removing the coin from the molding?
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 Месяц назад
I have found that in order to extend the life of a MOLD MAX 60 mold we need to get the piece out as soon as it freezes up. I judge that by watching the top of the spru freeze. Usually about 20 seconds. Contrary to graphite molds you actually want to let the MOLD MAX 60 cool down some before doing the next pour. I've been pouring more in pewter for my jewelry items lately due to better flow and lower melting temp. Pewter looks better than zinc and can be done on a stove top, but costs more compared to my zinc which is practically free. I did purchase the cheapest electric melting furnace I could find on Amazon. Works really well on the zinc. I moved all my metal melting videos to a new channel so here's the link. youtube.com/@castawaymetals-bgr84u?si=06p04JsHzNVHJY7x Thanks for the comment.

You don't vacuum the mix before pouring
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 2 месяца назад
No I do not. Never found it necessary. As long as you don't get any bubbles up against the part why bother. Pour slowly and let the silicone find itself to the part. Most all bubbles rise to the surface during the cure. At least it has for me. Sorry for the delay in responding. Ive moved all my casting videos to my other channel here: youtube.com/@CastawayMetals-BGr84u?si=UoiVB062gid_I0Ll Thanks for the comment.

I asked in another video but this doesn't look like a hammer drill.
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 3 месяца назад
You are correct. This video was all about working with a standard drill press. I wish someone would make a hammer drill press would be nice. This works pretty well because of the steady straight line pressure that can be applied and it performs really well on the river rocks that I like to use.

What kind of drill bit are you using to drill the stone?
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 3 месяца назад
I use standard masonry bits in a hammer drill. I look for the best deal on mostly 1/8 and 3/16 inch bits to drill the holes to set the metal pins. Most of the rocks I use are types of granite which are easier to drill than you might think. Stay away from rocks that are mostly quartz...very hard to drill.

I use soldering wire to create the air channels, and a plug of clay for the pour hole. With this method there's no need to take a knife to the mold once it has set.
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 4 месяца назад
Those work well too. A preformed spru comes in handy at times also. Thanks for the comment.
@Dunbar0740
@Dunbar0740 4 месяца назад
@@stoneageartworks9950 I forgot to say thank you for the video. I hadn't thought of adding a large preformed air vent, with smaller vents linking to it. I've been using soldering wire to thread individual vents to the top of the mold. Which was fiddly and could lead to blockages from spilled solder. I'll be adopting your methods in future. Thanks again.

How flexible/spongy is this stuff? I was thinking about using it for additional padding on my hat press.

These new springs are much longer than the old ones. Does the leaf spring actually touch the sumos when the van is down?
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 5 месяцев назад
It's hard to see in the video but yes, when the van is lowered to the ground there is support and compression there. Wouldn't be much good if there wasn't.
@Aquaholic4ever
@Aquaholic4ever 6 месяцев назад
does it require vaccum degarassor for removing bubbles ?
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 6 месяцев назад
It's not required. I've never done it or worried about any bubbles. Just don't be very aggressive while stirring the mix and be gentle and slow when you pour. Allow the mix to travel on its own slowly across the piece when you pour. I wait about 2 mins after stirring and let bubbles come to the surface.

Hello! How many casts can you get on one mold before it stars to tear apart?
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 7 месяцев назад
There are a lot of factors that will determine the number of casts you will get, like the casting temperature, the total mass, number of consecutive pours to name a few. My experience is with zinc pouring at about 600 degrees. In the mold in this video I got about 12 coins before I had to quit using the mold, but I could hzve done better if I had followed my own tips to extend the life. Like remove the cast as soon as it freezes and let the mold cool down before the next cast.

All though I've had amazing results for super high detail coins with petro bond. It just takes a crap ton of patients and a super stable hand when taking the coin out
@stoneageartworks9950
@stoneageartworks9950 9 месяцев назад
I like petrobond for one off applications and you are correct about using it for multiple items, very tedious. Just be aware that mold max 60 won't last forever. Unlike graphite molds, let MM60 cool down before each use. You will extend the life. Be sure to watch part 2. Well, I said " NO ADS " because my channel so far doesnt qualify to receive monetization from RU-vid. In the meantime RU-vid has seen fit to place ads on much of my content without compensation to me just because they can... and theres nothing I can do about it.

So yes, I pitched this idea to JEKITO to see if they would pick it up. Not unexpectedly they kinda blew me off, so as I mentioned, I'm going to make my own brackets for my own use and see where it goes from there. These mega foreign manufacturers are very hard to contact, and I'm sure that's by design. I did give them first crack at it but apparently to no avail. This video was held as private while i was trying to negotiate with JEKITO, but since that went nowhere I've made it public. Any way my next video will be showing the progression from rough prototype to a relatively finished product. Stay tuned... Subscribe!

I put the black ones on. Wish I would’ve installed the step down. On bumpy roads the van kinda hops. I drove the van a little prior to not installing them and it was definitely a more comfortable ride. But I’m a mobile locksmith with probably 1200 pounds loaded constantly in the van. And I feel like I’m in complete control after installing these. But a little softer sumo spring probably would’ve felt better for me
