As a Ford guy who drives a Dodge magnum RT, I have to say... I Love IT! Pretty much a foxbody mustang! And u can coyote swap it for around 4500. I don't think you'll be able to fit a HEMI in there
Say what you want about the old leaf springs and torsion bar suspension but don't forget the General Lee making all those jumps on Dukes of Hazzard! Try that with a HELL CAT Charger or Challenger
I like all things General Lee, but I didn't like just pix of what you did, it would have appealed to me better, if you had actually videoed the work you did.
Nice job 👍 Wish it wasn’t a “off brand”, I like mods but think it should have stayed all Mopar just because it a Charger ! Still good it’s didn’t get crushed !👍👍
Over 400 Chargers were destroyed in the stunts for Dukes of Hazzard the good news the fury police cars which were not only hideous designs were not well made many were rejected as not fit for duty by police departments when new. That was good news for the Chevy Caprice and Ford Crown Victoria as they were much better suited to the durability needed for round the clock non stop use.
One huge advantage that Mopar had was that manufacturer was alone in offering a true police pursuit car in the Calif market, with the 440 Magnum from ca 1972-73 up till 1978. Ford and GM both; had nothing in that state after the ca same 1972 era; no 460 PI, the Chevrolet 454 went away after 1974, etc
@@piercehawke8021 My Motorhome , A 76 Winnebago Brave had the 440 and it was great, I made a wrong turn in Orlando FL. during a Hurricane and sank into a sand trap. I was pleasantly surprised that when I put in reverse the Tandem wheels and that 440 lifted me back out without any trouble Green Shag carpet and all !
@@piercehawke8021 I will never forget driving a Buick 455 it was a happy revving motor that Made Torque immediately off Idle to over 4000 RPM that would have made a great interceptor'
@@CarswithNash wrong producers of the show confirmed it was 78 corvette red cause it showed up better on the tv as an orange color direct quote from the producers of dukes of hazzard
How Steve how come you need to pillar under the windshield I’m thinking about doing this as a project are you on Facebook can I message you? I need some pointers on how to do this it would be really appreciated
It must be a lot of fun to drive it! I'm sure it rides and handles a hell of a lot better than the leaf spring / torsion bar suspension it originally had in it!
I don't think that's right. The 1st gen had a wheel base of 114.4 , 2nd gen had wheelbase of 114.7. That's a 2nd gen he used. A town car has a wheelbase of 117.7, compared to the Charger's 117.0. Seems like it would be better to use the Town Car.
That’s awesome. I did notice that that the cyclone wheels set out to far and I know why I own a 99 crown Vic and I own an 06 if u put the 99 wheels on the 06 they set out a ways. They had a deeper dish wheel on the 98 and 99 model crown Vic’s either way I love it. And I wanna use my 06 cause it has a 3.55 posi trac rearend and lower miles..
I'm building my 1969 charger with AMD but I am using a 1988 chevy truck chassis( Silverado)I don't have much more go to have it done if I knew that a Victoria worked fine " I like how you built your General lee very nice style.
I really love this car if you ever want to let go of it ,im located in laval ..montreal..I have the 77 smokey and the bandit car i would sell all day..
why spend money on getting a roof when you can just go ahead and build a cage, especially since in a few Southern states it doesn't require to be inspected...? its just cheaper to build a cage than pay some old puke 1000$ for a rotted out roof....
Very cool. But me being me. Wheel length not over all wheel base. But rear tire left to rear tire right. I can tell it’s a bigger measurement on a crown Vic. Then a charger. To me that kills it’s. Should find a way. To overcome that. Visually. It’s noticeable. Not for the average person but a general Lee. 68-70 charger person
Yes. It’s look incorrect. And i can say this because a quick glance I can see. To me it is plain as day to most probably not. I’m old. And own a general Lee since the 80 s. I just know even with a glance
Most likely a Charger, as long as the vin is in the body and that being the likeness of the vehicle seems like the most logical choice, projects like this where the vin is missing or completely custom or one off builds will require a VIN assigned to them, that is as long as all the paperwork is in order, laws vary depending on your location.
@@robs1052 Im thinking crown vic plated,to have a charger that was dead like this one was, would have been off the road for some time, meaning it would need to be inspected to get it plated for the road, and with vic platform it would never pass our inspections,so my guess is its plated as a crown vic because the crown vic looks like it was a driver before the project and would have been plated for the road.
I believe so they make everything for you to do it just go to auto metal direct and they have everything you need to do it if you haven't seen it already theres a guy who does his in 3 days to get ready for a jump at dukes fest hope this helps 😁.
I debated back and forth. This was the reason I bought a Vic in the first place but I ended up selling it. I will say for really cheap to get that car to sound really good all you gotta do is cut the muffs out and throw in 2 18in straights (or however long it is, maybe it’s 22 in it’s been a while) and the car comes alive. I can send you a clip of me whipping around my Vic so you can get an example of what it sounds like. Also good idea for just getting a shell. I imagine it’s just swap and drop for the most part. Thanks for posting this stuff this inspires me to do some more digging and see if I can make it a somewhat realistic goal for me in the next 5 to do something like this. Hats off to you sir
@@stevesaccent Do you have contact information i could have? would love to see more pictures / talk with you about having you build me one in the future.
@@stevesaccent I`d do one too but the Atlantic is in the way.... if i did one i would use a Jaguar XJR floorpan they come in SWB: 3,033 mm (119.4 in) LWB: 3,160 mm (124.4 in) a 2 - 6 inch difference of the Charger Wheelbase 117 in (3,000 mm).... and to really upset people it would be Tesla powered 650+ hp would do it :):):)
